  1. Locals say they are tight as.

LATEST IS If you use your local debit bakcard for purchases GLOBAL now charge 7.9% for the privilige.

At Mukdahan the arguement is with BKB Card. it prominently shows the word VISA,hence the surcharge.

Does anyone else do this on a direct debit card..Doubt if Bangkok Bank knows kbut they will to-morrow,

What are the findings elsewhere Thanks.

  2. We have 18 mangoes(dot mai),from 3 to 5 years old.Locals seem reluctant to give advice,which is fair enough i guess

How and when should pruning be done,it seems to me there is excessive growth this rainy season?

Are there any recommended sprays/in particular to deal with the black flying bugs that feast on the young flowers

Also recommended fertaliser programme would be of assistance. Thank you

  3. Have tried a couple of companies, but none have english version. My wife does not understand the Thai terminology

and of course I do not and all seem to produce quotes with figures like telephone numbers

One of the requirements I had for the purchase of a new Nissan 8 months back was a policy in English.,now the sales lady does not know what to say(.Same applys to the owners manual in English for my Sylphy.)

Seek cover for Pick up,and, home cover and contents Living in Isaan does not make it any easier either. replies welcomes

  4. Had a search but unable to locate anything specific.. These bugs swarm over the flowers and seem to eat them.Do not appear during daylight. Some say they live in the soil, but have not found any. Locals say no problem. Catch them easily and get a good price at the market lovely and crunchy.,

OK what are they? Any effective control or spray available..

Some of the flowering stems seem to have been stripped bare. Any help greatly appreciated

  5. It is the speed that kills'

90KMH is supposed to be the highway limit.for cars and vans

A local prominentHotel in my area operates a fleet of mini vans, they have a sign that passengers are requested to report their driver if they exceed their 110kmh speed limit sign..

At a road check point recently I actually found an officer who spoke reasonable English. When i queeried my above comment,I got a wide smile.

He said they have to connect with airline flights so we look after them and they look after us.

Try travelling long distance and count the number of vehicle that pass you while you are doing 90.One would need a fast calculator.

    Mai Pen Lai!

i questioned WHY THAILAND DOES NOT HAVE SPEED CAMERAS? and he said many people have NO money so what is the use!

  6. The giant has arrived, but watch out in the covered car parks, rather narrow, and if you have anything larger than a Suzuki it is almost impossible to reverse out wiithout very careful avoidance of the vehicle opposite

ADVERTISING STATES, Installation Service,Delivery Service,Special Order Service,30 Days Guarantee.VAT refund Ha!Ha!Anremember items that are priced will have VAT added at the check out?

Remember they are a retailer and discount is a dirty word

At present I am building a retail shop and a house,Going to spend a pile of those big ones.

I made a request for a special order, to measure and quote a price for a complete large shop front, delivered and installed.

measure & quote was not in my shop assistant's English pocket dict..Spoke to 6 different people and the answer was a lemon.Came back 2 days later and was unable to get service even when I offered to take their staff member to the location, the fact of my having working drawings with me made no difference either

I did place a sizeable order for goods they had in stock but delivery to my site 20kms out of town took 4 days.and was chargeable.

Surely they need at least one English speaking, general product knowledge expert, for the size of the operation. Phew??!!@@

  7. Aproached Bangkok Bank,Mukdahan to transfer 300000Bt from my personal savings account (.75%) to 4 months at 3%

being widely advertised. Duely a new passbook was produced, after signing several documents, all seemed OK

when a senior staff madam declined the transaction and the amount was put back to savings

I undesrtood that with YELLOW.i was now entitled to better interest on savings account, and permitted to have

term investment in my own name.

To clarify confusion can someone detail exactly what OFFICIAL YELLOW entitlements are???

  8. It can happen to anyone. Travelling north back from Ubon, on Highway 212 (single lane each way) south of Amnat. (Probably the worst area for overtaking in very risky situations

    at well over speed limit.

    I was number 5 in a group,doing regulation 90kph,when it happened.

No 1 had an emergency stop, no2 rear ended no1, no3 which happened to be a Highway Patrol vehicle, took evasive action but became the MEAT IN THE SANDWICH, as no 4 just had a slight impact. As no 5, a sverve avoided connection.

Unfortunately i did nOt have a camera, but the look on the officers face as he called into base, would have been worth a THOUSAND WORDS.

Apart from that this section of highway

BADLY NEEDS AN ADDITIONAL LANE EACH WAY as other regular users will agree.I bet the stats do not look very flash.

  9. There maybe an answer some wheere but cannot find it.

Any one have an idea what the average number of standard fence blocks, are laid per an 8 hour day by

a regular block layer for a straight fence on level land. Have about 30 metres to do,labour only, all materials supplied.

    Thai lunch and water supplied

Quote looks like a telephone number Thanks

  10. Not sure if this fits here or not.

Thai Met has an attachment to the daily regional forecasts on the net, of the averages for 30 years from 1961 to 1990.

Now in this day and age,we get a daily forecast(by guess or someone)but how about an update for the

averages. Not much use for the data to be 22 years out of date. How can we get some action on an update??

This could give an idea on Globa Warming?^%$#@! and certainly rain forecasting for those growing crops.

trend on rain variations and temperatures. Any ideas please

    1. Thanks everyone, as it has been said ,applying for a YELLOW relates so much to the authorised Amphur person ON THE DAY
    2. A local resident, found a Translator in Muk,however there were several errors(mainly spelling) and no certification was attached. They did remember to charge however. Both points picked up in a flash by the officer who quickly reverted to reading the morning paper as we departed
    3. both documents are on the way to Bangers now for a proper job.
    4. Re passport translation,it should have looked pretty genuine with over 20.business trips to Thaland in the last 5 years
    5. Will keep the info updated.

  11. The next step to satify local Amphur, for the YELLOW BOOK

I am in Mukdahan area and need to have my Passport and Marriage Certificate officially

    translated to english

Please supply details of such a person and contact address and phone numbers

    Be much appreciated email removed

  12. Our farmlet near Mukdahan has been tilled and is now ready for planting fruit trees, and see if we can make some pennies

Firstly does anyone have recommendations as to what are most popular fruit species and those sought after by buyers.

Locals in the area seem not to know where trees are available, except rubber..There was a suggestion of UBON,and another

Poi Et. Next i guess, what sort of prices are being asked.?

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. Thanks

  13. 3 YEARS BACK, the City Tower Information Centre was unable to provide a STREET MAP of the city, and not one of the 6 people at various desks

understood what I wanted. No English user in the place.

Yesterday I visited the Tower again and went to the INFORMATION counter, requesting a MUK Street Map.Info directed me to a counter who offered me a visitors ticket which I did not need and sent me back to information.

I had taken the precaution of taking with me a very good street map of UBON, obtained from TAT office. After trying to explain to 5 different member of the staff. one guy dived under the counter and came up with THE GOODS.

A great step foreward, a glossy fold out with some 88 coloured pictures, with phone numbers, but description in THAI only.Great for locals, but as the area is rapidly moving to TOURISM Phase,a version with English would be far more useful over all.

The street map is very vague and only has 9 named streets(in both ENG & THAI,but the unnamed ones is the big drawback. In my opinion the main BUS STATION seems to be in the wrong place, unless it has recently been relocated since the map was produced. The reverse side has a district map,not to bad with dual language for each area, though somewhat sparce in number.

The final straw was a list of phone numbers(for tourists) there are 22 numbers listed(that are probably service numbers) but in Thai

next come 11 numbers which aperar to be accomodation houses, and finally a distance chart for 6 other locations.

So things are looking up,but something with English would be a plus, maybe both versions would be an idea.GO MUKDAHAN

  15. Just 2 months since my wife Nalinnipa arrived to settle here from New Zealand on our small farmlet,7.5kms north of Nikhom Kham Soi on highway 212.We beleive there are some folks in the areas north and south of here but have not met anyone yet,for a chat in English,.It sure is not easy for me in Thai.
