I've just been out and the roads are empty. Maybe that could be the reason in fewer deaths on these days.

I admire your optimism, and in a way it makes a good point, but the quiet roads may just be because many people are visiting friends and relatives after going to the temples, and are now having a good time.......until later tonight when they all start to go home.

Wild elephants have been a menace for decades to people living near forest zones across Thailand, with numerous cases of invasion of farms and houses.

The issue of wild elephants intruding on to farmland has been severe in recent years.

Sorry, but I have another scenario I believe is closer to the truth........how about this for a report...........

People have been a menace  for decades to the Wild Elephants living in forest zones, with numerous cases of people invading their territory.

The issue of people intruding on to the wild elephants habitat has been severe in recent years.....

  3. Obviously this was just the usual hot air again.............

Newly-bought vehicles that carry temporary red license plates will be banned from streets starting in June if a draft law is enacted, the Land Transport Department chief said on Monday.

Sanit Promwong, director general of the Land Transport Department, said a draft law to implement the ban was being reviewed by the Office of the Council of State and would be debated at public hearings as required by Article 77 of the new Constitution.

He said the law was expected to be enacted in June, after which all new vehicles must have been registered to have license plates before they can be driven.

Currently, new vehicles can be driven for up to 30 days with temporary plates, while the permanent ones are being registered.

  4. Is the Healthy Prison Route addressing the problems of overcrowding, poor sanitation, poor diet, lack of medical facilities, etc. etc.

Please do not get me wrong, I am one of the last people who think a prison term should be a walk in the park with soft conditions one sees in the west. It is a punishment for crimes against society. However I am not inconizant of the need for a little self respect and hope needed by inmates before they can even begin on a path to rehabilitation.

A bit off topic but does anybody know why immigration offices in Hua Hin and now Tha Yang keep moving. Feels like every year in Hua Hin.

    Is there a logical reason?

Hua Hin offices moved down near the beach about 4 years ago. I am not 100% sure of the facts, but someone told me it is not government land and the owner wants to develop it. maybe another member has more solid info.

I would never have given them gas money in the first place. They told you they were coming, they pay the money.

Whereas I do understand your point, there is another side to the coin. Last month I went to Immigration ( Hua Hin ), to renew my driving licences for car and bike. There have been many posts before on the cost of the paper regards where you live, ranging from nothing, to a few hundred Baht depending where you are. I was charged 1,000 per copy. Now I fully understand this is flagrant extortion, but I also know that they have the upper hand. If I create a song and dance about it, I can be certain that my name will go on an (unofficial) blacklist, then when it comes to my next extension application they will make it hell for me. I learnt from many years in Saudi Arabia, and China, to never rock the boat, just bite the lip, and go with it. They always win in the end.

Also forgot to add I have never done a TM30 or TM28  ( cant remember which is which) and  Hua  Hin have never mentioned it in 5  years......thankfully,making Hua  Hin one of the better immigration centres

Many thanks for the post Kannot.

this basically confirms what the chief said when the Wife phoned at the time all the new regs. came out. He said marriage extension no changes. It is an interesting one that they have been told to visit every year. We had a visit for the first one and nothing since. However, as I am 5 minutes drive around the corner in 88 it will be no hassle for them. Regards the TM30, it is always one of the pages of the Passport that I copy,( a copy of every page with a Thai stamp rule ),so guess that is why they have never asked for it. Again, thanks for the heads up.
