  1. depends on how long you want to wait? I personally would tend to the Honda but if the waiting time is twice of the Toyota? I ordered a Fortuner and when the waiting time in 2011 was extended again and again due to flooding I cancelled the order and bought a Chevrolet Captiva, readily available in just a week.

  2. happy birthday ragamuffin you are almost exactly 1 year older as my wife. If your bf does not have an academic degree and he wants to change in career anyway then use the time to study again. A friend of mine did his Bachelor at the Fernuni in Hagen (google it) while living in Australia its not really that expensive. Afterwards he could start a new career. You mentioned that you can earn for the two of you. You just need to have a proper Internet connection. Even if he does not have Abi with his dual Berufsausbildung and experience he can study. Consider it...

  3. Simple answer: my research interest is the field of English education in Thailand and I'm currently spending time at Chula for a thesis. Other countries are not an option, I know my way around here, have friends and contacts.
I'm actually expecting an okay paid job with my qualifications, too.

This certainly beats a greenhorn who wants to teach freshman oral English at Baanawk University while researching genetically-modified papaya in Isaan. Your points are well-taken, and sorry to assume you were one of the 99% TV posters looking for a teaching job without qualifications or experience. wink.png Your b/f, on the other hand, might have greater challenges as evidenced in the posts above.

Since your salary would support both, the both of you should come here on the strength of your job and contacts alone, and let him network and job-hunt right on site. Certainly a lot better than long-distance job hunting. I've done it both ways and the advantages of being able to grab an interview opportunity on short notice (especially in Thailand) is immense!

Good luck to the both of you! thumbsup.gif

yes giving up a job for a company he worked for 10 years to go to Thailand and hunt for jobs which are not avaiable - at least not in the salary range he would expect...

I would not think that is a good idea.

When I went to the Philippines many many years ago I already had an expat job with the complete package in my pocket. Trying to find such a job in the country is definitely not possible, at least not with the complete expat package. Now I am residing in Thailand moved here from the Philippines but I did not change the employer just the location...

  4. I think I saw some rooms for rent near petkasem soi 89 for 1,500 thb. As we are in Thailand, it's all in thai. Anyway, I just remember because I passed by while driving. they call it "dormitory". I guess bus #84 is on the way and stops at wong wing yiai bts station. The ride takes 1h though.

A dormitory is a room with multiple beds, where people share the room, bathroom etc.

  5. there are mostly condos but also some houses around Thong Lor / Phrom Phong area. (at Soi 34 are houses) You should get in contact with a good housing agent. He/she could show you around. When I found a good condo (low rise, just 6 floors) which is very close to Suk but still like a little paradise away from Suk, a nice pool and many kids in the age of my little one play every afternoon/evening together. Wells just 900 m walking, 700 m to Phrom Phong and Thong Lor BTS stations, 900 m to Benjasiri Park, 700 m to Emporium Mall with Little Gym. But rent is quite high so. I love the area. In the morning I can see squirrels looking out at my window or from the balkony. Also we hear birds singing but very quiet from traffic. As far as I know there may be an available unit. All units are 295 sqm, four bed rooms. Send me a PM if you want to know the website.

  6. why dont you look into Wells as I mentioned??? One time fee was 30,000 Baht. we did not pay that as our little one is very bright and of course they love to have talented kids.

The Bkk Int. Prep School is a total rip off absolutely and extremely overpriced. At Wells you can eat at the floor in the toilet that is how clean it is. I have seen many prep schools/Kindergartens and Wells was by far the most outstanding one. Wells International School and Kindergarten...

  7. I use my iphone with Tom Tom South East Asia, the maps are far better then the one in my Captiva. I have the RAM mount for the handle bar, you can get at the GPS store at MBK or other places.

I also have a great cigarette charger unit, bought at Touratech Thailand Motorbike accessories. Great quality. Very easy to wire to your battery. I use it on my KLX250 and it works like a charm. In case of rain I always bring a few zip lock plastic bags, you can still use the touch function even with the zip lock.

I believe that RAM mount adapters are available for different phones.

Price TomTom SEA 50 Euros, RAM mount about 2k Baht, charger less then 1k Baht

  8. bts thong lor. Google Wells International Kindergarten. A superb place, very clean, good teachers, great environment. Cost is about 175,000 plus food 12,000 Baht a year time until 2.30 PM. Our 3 year old girl goes there since more then a year and she loves it. We live walking distance 900 m from wells. Its on Soi 51 about 150-200 m from Sukhumvit.
