  1. My sand filter has developed a leak and I don't seem to be able to stop it.

This may not be a common fault but I know it happens because someone else in the village had the same problem.

Their final cure was to buy a new filter.

I first noticed the leak a couple of months ago. It was so fine that it looked like a strand from a spiders web but it was making a small puddle on the floor. There is no damage to the filter so it has either worn from the inside or become porous.

The filter is made by Astral and is a beige coloured plastic. It's the plastic that's causing me the problem as nothing as yet will stick to it.

I first tried using epoxy, the grey type where you mix resin with hardener. This stuff works well on metal but after 2 or 3 weeks it was leaking again. I cleaned the old epoxy off and applied more. This lasted about the same time.

Although there doesn't seem to be much pressure in the filter, somehow the water was able to work it's way between the filter and epoxy.

Yesterday I tried hot glue and at first it looked like it was going to hold but alas this morning it's leaking again.

I have one more idea that I am going to try and that is silicon. I have used some of this before, it's the type they use when making aquariums so should be water-proof. The only problem will be getting it to adhere to the plastic filter.

Anybody got any other ideas as I can't afford a new filter right now?

  2. Try Euro Park hotel in soi 1. It is just across the road from back of Bumrungrad.

I have stayed there many times but not recently. It is quiet and has a car park.

Their card also says swimming pool which I must admit I never saw.

    Phone no:- 0225410745/0225542245

The rooms are quite big and they provide microwave etc.

  3. My story of the white Fortuner wasn't an April fools day joke!

The "dome" on the top looked nothing like your pic.

It had 4 windows, front, back and sides where the word "POLICE" was detailed in white letters on a blue glass background.

    It certainly wasn't satellite TV!

No worry! I'm sure someone else will see this before long! :):D

  4. Firstly let me apologize if someone as already posted about this but I've been offline ( computer down ) for a week.

Today, whilst driving towards soi Siam CC from the Elephant village, alongside SP 5. I saw coming towards me a white Fortuner.

Nothing special about that you could say except on the roof was something that looked like a large white biscuit tin ( for want of a better description )

I thought it might be some kind of a/c unit until passing the Fortuner I saw in white letters on blue background the word "Police"

This looked like a properly made "dome" that probably is illuminated at night time, as opposed to somebody's idea of a "fake" police car.

Anyway, I thought some of you would appreciate being made aware of this in case one day you see a white Fortuner in your mirror and decide to give em a race!! :):D

  5. I have learned the hard way that getting a lawn mower fixed at anywhere other than a recognised lawn mower repairers is a waste of time and money!

I have a petrol mower that basically needed a good service. Everybody said take it to the local m/c repair shop, which I did. When I got it back it looked like it had spent a year in Afghanistan! and for this I paid 450 baht. No oil change or plug change and the pull cord for starting had the bad bit cut off and reused!

Since then I have taken it to the shop I bought it from ( Pattaya Nua, between Suk. rd. and air/con bus station) where they stripped it down replaced plug and faulty part. Replaced pull cord with new one. Changed oil and sharpened and serviced.

    All for 800 baht.

  6. Hi,

The first thing to tell your brother in law is check out the link http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Radio-Contro...nes-t87295.html

There's directions in the link to Pattaya R/C club next to Elephant village.

There's someone at the field most afternoons from 4.00pm. Sundays is the most popular.

Go along and have a look, ask questions and get to know if this is what he really wants. ( unless he is already experienced and just needs the model shop)

Everybody is friendly and will help him.

As for a model shop, there is one just off the Suk. Rd. about half way between Klang and Nua. On the west side of Suk. rd. there is a DiY/furniture store called something like Boomalong ( sp ) the model shop is located in the little soi next to this shop. There is a sign on the Suk. rd. The shop is called HooHa r/c and fishing (sp) He doesn't open until after lunch?

The shop on Khao Noi that is presently closed is supposed to open again shortly but we don't know the date. Opposite this shop a few guys fly helicopters most days.

Another model shop is located at Bang Saree. Many of the guys who fly planes get their models from Bangkok ( can be shipped over night ) or from Hong Kong ( takes 1 week+ for shipping )

    Hope this helps.

  7. I don't know where in Pattaya you live or where you buy your chemicals but I have bought from both the shop on 3rd. rd. just south of the traffic lights at Pattaya Nua and also the shop on Siam CC. Rd. near Route CC.

The price for a 20kg. bucket of chlorine granules was roughly the same at both shops, 2200baht. A 40kg. sack of soda ash was 700baht. These prices have stayed about the same for the last 2/3 years.

  8. I went into "safe mode" but couldn't fathom how to run the program.

I told you I'm NOT an expert.

At one stage I tried running a CD and found it wasn't recognised so in the "device manager" I found a yellow mark next to dvd player. Doing some searching in forums, someone said "why don't you uninstall dvd player, then reboot and let Windows install it."

I hope that makes sense to you.

I did that and it worked so I reinstalled my dvdFlick program and the problem I was having with that had gone away.

I realise I may NOT yet be out of the woods but I've used so many anti virus/spyware programs today that the buggar should be worn out! I know I am!

I will be trying some more of your advice later but right now I need a rest! LOL

    Thanks for your help.

  9. Yes I was able to access the microsoft.com, anti-virus/malware sites.

I downloaded Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and ran it........Nothing found.

I have since ran ESET NOD 32 again and it is still indicating this Olmarik trojan.

Looking this up on Google I found a site for the removal of this.

Please bear in mind I am NOT a computer expert!

I did the first test which required looking in the registry but could not find anything related to Olmarik.

I was a bit wary of trying the other tests! So left it at that.

I have also downloaded the software dvdflick again but the problem is still there.

I will try to access their forums to see if I can get help.

I do appreciate all your efforts, I am sitting with the windows open so that I don't break the glass when I chuck the computer out!!

    Sorry! only joking!

  10. Sorry for the delay in replying but had to pop out.

After last post I was able to access ESET NOD32 manually at cnet.com

I downloaded it and ran it.

It found 4 or 5 problems that it got rid of but 1 -

Operating memory-Win32/Olmarik trojan -action selection postponed until scan completion

This wasn't dealt with as when I ran ESET NOD32 a 2nd time it was found straight away.

I have just got back in the house and I have tried the links you have posted.

    a. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo...t-security-2010 This now works.

    b. http://tiny.cc/Zw5gg This also works.

    d. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com This also works.

Cannot Access Certain Websites - Conficker Virus This link posted by Supernova also works.

I need a bit of time to check out the other things you have asked me to do so I'll get back as soon as possible.

BTW the 2nd time I ran ESET NOD 32 I was disconnected from internet.

    I will get back soon.

    Thanks for your perseverance.

  11. I think I still have a problem because the links you've posted will not load.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo...t-security-2010 404 Not Found

ESET NOD32 free online scanner 404 Not Found

    SuperAntispyware Server not found

I have run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (free edition) again and it doesn't find anything.

All my programs seem to be working except 1. I'm not getting those annoying pop-ups I was yesterday.

The program that is not working properly is dvdFlick which I use to burn dvd's. I have been using this program for a few weeks without a hitch. It encodes movies etc. and then burns to dvd for use in any dvd player. It uses IMGburn which with a tick in the box burns to dvd after the encoding. Now it will not allow me to tick the box for the burn.

I have also noticed for a few days now that if I use Google to try to find a program, particularly antivirus or malware that it comes up with the 404 Not Found.

    Any ideas?

    Please!

  12. Hopefully it's worked for me too!

I've never had these problems before until I started downloading torrents, serves me right you could say!

It is so annoying though when you search for a program to get rid of these parasites and find so many that offer a "Free scan" and then demand money for the program to get rid of the problems their scan has found!

  13. I have now downloaded Malwarebytes from Welos link. Updated it and ran it 2 times.

First run picked up quite a few problems that Avira missed.

Put them in quarantine, never sure about this, should I delete them?

2nd run was clear. ( Not connected to internet )

Ran Avira again and found 4 problems not detected before.

    When I try this link:-

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo...t-security-2010

    I get 404 Not Found

Is there still something stopping me from accessing site?

    The other link:-

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qi...26083947AAE17Xl

    Works OK

I've not had any more pop-ups from original problem.

  14. Thanks. As in my other post, after hitting the button to pay for removal program, problem instantly disappeared.

I will follow your advice though and download Malwarebytes and see what happens.

I did run Avira after I first noticed this problem but it didn't pick up anything.

I still think this has something to do with Microsoft as it went away so easily after hitting that button.

Sorry about the 2 threads, I was going crazy trying to get rid of the problem.

  15. You are not going to believe this!

I've been trying for ages and just going around in circles.

No way was I going to be conned into buying anything but as a last resort I hit the button to pay!

Problem seems to have stopped! "Just like that!"

    Is this Microsoft playing tricks?

Before this happened I couldn't do anything with the Windows Firewall or Auto Updates.

    Now I can!

Thanks for your help and sorry for the trouble.

  16. Can anyone help!

I'm using Genuine Windows XP Home.

Yesterday I did my weekly maintenance ie. antivirus check ( twice ) defrag. and tidy-up.

    NO problems found.

Closed computer. ( for a rest. LOL )

This morning when I open computer I am bombarded with pop-ups telling me my computer is at risk etc.

I also get what looks like an antivirus/spyware application from Windows.

After this finishes it asks if I want to remove the tons of problems it's found.

If I tick Yes, it goes to a site that asks for money for program.

I have tried, with my limited knowledge to delete anything that might be causing this but no joy.

I have Googled for Help but can't find any that did any good!

It seems more like a virus than anything from Windows.

    Any ideas Please! :):D

  17. Thanks Supernova! Tried method 1 and it seems to have worked.

Could you tell me what the cause of this was?

Also a few days ago Windows Firewall and Auto Updates were constantly turning off without me doing anything.

Is this a virus or trojan of some kind?
