  1. I have run out of my English tea that my friend brought to me. Anyone know where to buy English brands in BKK? Tetleys, PG Tips, whatever. Don't have at Tops or Villa Market.

If you are in Pattaya anytime, there's someone who sells Tetleys catering packs - 440 teabags - for 500 baht. delivered. PM me if you want the phone no. As for Liptons - Yuk! got no taste. Twinnings breakfast tea is OK but it's expensive.

  2. Actually it is a bit of an ambiguous question. I take it you mean East or West of Thailand. For Hot tea, I think it has to be Ceylon or Indian, but you can hardley put Peach or Mango with PG Tips. Of course the other way round you can hardly put milk and sugar in Chrysanthanum Tea.

No I think it is whether it is hot or cold. West of Thailand for Hot Tea. East for Iced Tea.

Sorry, I meant west as in teas that the UK and the US are known for drinking, or east as in Asian teas. However, I am thankful for learning a difference between east and west Thailand when it comes to tea. :D

BTW, what different teas come from Thailand? My wife makes what she just calls Thai tea, which is really dark and spicy when hot and when cold is filled with sweet stuff. Are there other kinds?

Now you have explained the East/West bit I can reply that only good, strong English tea is for me. "Yorkshire" tea is one of my favs., but I'm presently slurping through a big bag of Tetleys. I just can't taste any of the "flowery" or "green" teas! A few years ago Tesco sold their own brand which wasn't too bad. Now they only sell Liptons and Twinnings. I like my tea and coffee just like my women - Hot Strong and Sweet!! :o:D

  3. Try powering down the decoder, take the card out. Put it back in, then power up again.

And if that fails, call UBC customer services. They will re-transmit the signals while you are on the phone. usuually works Ok.

I'm at Mabprachan, and all my channels are fine

OK, I'm up and running again ( for the time being!! ) This is an old problem I have, if anyone is interested here is my original post from a while back http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=25881

The 2 pieces of advice from above don't work with my decoder box as it's not a DSTV one that usually gets supplied from UBC. Mine is a TECHNOSAT and I know there are a few more out there unless the owners have scrapped them by now. I needed to know if there was a problem with UBC before I started playing around with the Menu and downloading myself. I even tried UBC helpline which I knew would be a waste of time. Anyway, got all my channels working again now so if anyone need any help with the same problem send me PM and I'll do my best to help. :o:D

  4. Hi,

The people who painted my house came equipped with a do-it-youself ladder - 3 long pieces of bamboo they cut at the side of the road. They cut one piece into small bits for the rounds and the other 2 they drilled out to take the small pieces. "Hey-presto" a 12 foot ladder. They also used long pieces of bamboo with a paint roller attached to paint up near the roof. So go cut yourself some bamboo! :o

  5. Hi,

I live near Maprachan-East Pattaya. Yesterday-Tues. we had a power cut ( This may or may not be part of the problem ) but last night and so far today we cannot get certain channels on UBC. These are channels 23 ( History ) through to channel 37 ( Sport ) I did notice last night that we couldn't get 19 but that seems OK today. Anyone out here have the same problem? :D:o

  7. I must admitt that after the sealer, the top coat went on without an undercoat but as this is masonry paint as opposed to gloss I thought that was OK. Like I said, some of the paint was flaking before we got the house repainted but I thought it was down to the fact that the original paint job was cr@p. This was the reason I got them to use sealer. Now the flaking seems to be in more places than before but it does only seem to be around the height of the internal concrete floors and in thin horizontal strips as against big patches. But where the paint is coming off the cement looks dry underneath. Looks like tiling might be the only way to go! :o:D

  8. My house is 3 1/2 years old, it was new when we moved in. The paintwork wasn't too great and they didn't come along to touch it up as they said they would do before we paid over the money. Not to worry as we got a good deal! In the next 3 years there were patches of paintwork on the lower parts of the outside walls that seemed to bubble and flake off. This year I decided to get the outside painted. The guy who I contacted I'd known for some time and had done good jobs for me in the past. He used his family to do the work. I told him I wanted a "good" job done and I bought ICI paint and also ICI Masonry sealer. The work looked OK and was done as well as any work by Thais seems to be. Now I find there are patches on the lower walls that are bubbling, mainly in long thin strips. I scraped one of these off and the sealer came away too. What is the problem? A friend says it could be damp but it doesn't look like that to me. As the sealer had an effect on the cement? Can anyone think of what may be my problem and what I can do to cure it? Thanks in advance.

  9. Hi,

I've just found this thread for Jajah whilst looking for other cheap phone links. What I want to know is:- 1. Do I need ADSL before I can use Jajah so that when they phone me back I can answer or do I log off from internet after entering numbers? ( landline only ) 2. When I enter my Thai phone no. do I miss out the zero ( 0 ) and likewise when I enter the no. I want to call in UK, do I miss out the zero (0 ) from the area code? 3. Anyone found any problems since using Jajah, billing etc. ?

  10. It's not an extension to "Driving Street" is it? :D

I know I don't get out enough :o but I do live in the Maprachan area. I've read of this "Driving Street" on TV but could someone please explain exactly where they are referring to. :D:D

  11. Read on another forum recently about a visit to the Museum of Forensic Science in Bangkok. Not for the squeamish they said but very interesting. I asked my wife if she knew where this place is but she doesn't, does anyone know the address? Thamks. :o:D

  12. :D This is a serious question.I'm booked in at this hotel,with a late flight :D

    Why no replies????????? :o

I hope this isn't so serious as you make out because the beer garden as been closed for over a year now. All the internet shops and massage places have gone some have moved inside the Ambassador and the area is being developed. There are a couple of Indian restaurants within the Ambassador complex - near Soi 11, don't know how good they are. If you want a beer you can go across the road and into the little soi that is part of soi 11 where you will find Cheap Charlies. This is like a lean-to bar at the end nearest Suk Rd. The beers cheap but you have to watch out for any passing cars. There's also an English bar in this street that does food. At the opposite end to C/C there's a good Thai restaurant that gets pretty busy. I think all these places close at the appropriat time, so no late drinking. Hope this helps! :D:D

  13. Thank you for the link I have already visited the web site so lets try the question again

Has any one personal experience in visiting the racing circuits in Thailand ?? I know there is one between Bkk and Pattaya but I have never visited it or spoken to any one who has . There must be others around .

My son is now of the age when he will enjoy spectating a good racing day with a walk in the pits etc so any recommendations suggestions would be welcomed

    Hi,

I went to the one in Pattaya last year and was disappointed. Cheap to get in, only 50 baht. but found poor organisation of races. Seemed to wait ages between races. OK, I don't speak much Thai so was unable to find out what was going on from trackside commentary, but here again the loudspeaker system is sooooo... loud that I was almost deafened anyway. Viewing from opposite pits seems like best place as you can watch cars etc. approaching last bend before straight, but once past start/finish they are out of sight for 3/4 of lap. I think you can walk around the circuit to get view, not sure about pits though. Food & drink available - Thai food. Take your own and something to sit on - maybe umbrella for sun. You can sit in grandstand - concrete steps but p/a system particularly loud. At least if you get fed up you've not spent a lot of money! Hope this helps?

  14. Hi Spuds,

Looks like most people here have said the same thing, that you're more safer up country than where there's tourists and I agree with them. Just thought I'd mention one thing we do when we go to visit. I'm not too keen on basic Issan food so we always do a shop in Tesco on the way to the village. Then my wife cooks the food that I can eat and her family loves it because they don't get to eat it so often. I'm only talking about pork musaman and soup noodles etc. nothing special. But the thing is I can join in the meal with them and know what I'm eating. LOL

  15. Hi, can anyone help with some info? Please, no jokes, don't have time to read them.

I have tried the Search facility, to no avail. A lot of info there, but nothing that matches exactly my needs.

My frend was married to a Thai lady in the UK about 10 years ago and now want to divorce. He called the UK embassy who told him he would get the info from www.lawsociety.org.uk. I have looked at this site but it looks like general info for divorce in UK. Both my friend and his estranged wife live in LOS so we are looking for info regarding getting a divorce without travelling back to UK.

Can they divorce here using Thai lawyers?

What is the best way to proceed?

Any help would be gratefully recieved! I am Googling for info while I await any replies. Thanks.

  16. Anyone know what the group of buildings by the side of sukimvit road near the petrol station are? Ive been told its something to do with a wealthy thai chicken farmer is it his seaside place or what! There is a large statue of a chicken in the garden! The whole place looks like a giant blue and white wedding cake, whats inside the buldings anyone know?

It's free to go in and look around although on both occasions I've been the buildings have been closed to the public due to being readied for a formal function. I have seen photos of the inside and I suppose it's a "Thai style - Stately Home" LOL. The gardens run all the way down to the beach. Well worth a visit if you've nothing better to do. :o:D

  17. I recently posted about buying a battery charger after having a flat battery. Nearly everyone who answered tried to tell me I shouldn't need one because a battery recharges itself in a short time. Well it doesn't! If you make short journeys or don't use your car so often the battery needs charging once in a while. Also check and top-up the water as I don't think the Thais do this when servicing. Anyway, my Toyota pick-up is now over 3 years old as is the battery. I topped the water up and borrowed a batt/ch. and the problem for now seems to be sorted.

  18. This sounds like you are a farang who has never been to Pattaya. If so I think you would find one of these "basic" rooms very uncomfortable indeed, but if you really want to try it, I think about 1000 baht a month would do.

  19. Have replied to this on Travel Forum, why the duplicate posts?

7 hours is an awful lot of "driving enjoyment." You can fly from Bangkok to Khon Kaen for less than US$50 each way and it takes about an hour.

    :o

This guy is travelling from Rayong so that would add at least 3 hours to his journey time if he was to fly from BKK never mind getting to his final destination in KK.
