  1. this is such a non topic.

How much did the menu say it would cost?? didnt bother to check then tough. Same as getting in tuk tuk and not setting a price.

Is it a scam - yes, when you have a job interview and discuss your salary, do you honestly say what you think you are worth to the company, or the absolute MAX you think they will pay.

And besides - they never complained about the food, seafood is expensive and if it was decent there is a seafood restaurant here in Phuket I go to that has prices that match this. Better location than BKK i suspect, but it is not WAY over the top.

And if you get taken to place because your taxi driver suggests it - you get what you deserve.

There is a thing called the internet - do some research.

You sound like the kind of person who would be great to have a beer with...

  2. Putin has also quadrupled the amount of flights to Crimea from Russia this year. No passport is needed by Russian nationals to visit either. That and the crash will make this a terrible year and if we are honest a terrible few years for anyone relying on the Russians...

Tough, they only have themselves to blame - well Putin and his idiotic invasion of Ukraine

Putin didnt invade Ukraine. What do watch? Fox News the BBC perhaps. The US and EU where behind a coup that overthrew a democraticly elected government (not the first time). And then lie as if Russia was the bad guy. Its the reverse. Crimea is 90% Ethnic Russian and voted to remain part of Russia. I hope Russia stand up to these bullies and that there economy turns round.

"Crimea is 90% Ethnic Russian and voted to remain part of Russia"

Didn't that happen after the invasion?

How many other russian enclaves are due for annexation?

  3. Tourists should be able to understandbthat junkies are not welcome in Thailand. They should be able to figure out before they cross the border. Given that, they should be able to get clean in their home countries. If they prefer a trip on meth to a trip to Thailand, then it's up to them. Is that so difficult to understand?

Brings to mind a song by Warren Zevron called "Excitable Boy"...

You havn't smeared a pot roast over your chest per chance?

  4. Reminds me of the time I was shaken down for about the 3rd time in Ekkamai back around 2005...

Back then the scam was the coppers in borrowed uniforms from Thong Lo police station.

It only came on top when they started to enter the buses looking to shake people down.

That 3rd time they shook my tree they got 10,000 B (I was found holding). Could have been much worse.

Although the bit that was worse was me reading the Bangkok Post the next week and learning to my complete horror that the police were not actually police and the bribe I had paid went wayward...

Would love to say a lesson was learnt but it really wasnt :)

  5. The war on drugs has failed in every country... Thailand will be no exception lol.

Only way to control them is to legalise them. I know that wouldn't happen anywhere in SEA though

Stupid mentality to legalise drugs.......in case you havn't noticed...yaba, ya-ice etc send people nuts!

We see the evidence of drug users so often in the Thai media......

And your way has worked so well for so many years. It's cost so little and showed so many results we might as well keep the same course Captain...

Becuase lets face it... The war on drugs has worked out really well and we are winning? cheesy.gif

  7. I used to know a Swede who did the exact same thing, he didn't want any help. Just wanted to be left alone to live under the bridge out the back of Phra Athit road.

That man went back home luckily, mental issues and an addiction to Sang Som were not helping his plight.

Was back on the Kao San Road the other day after a long trip back to the UK and went to the Reggae bar that used to run in the Soi behind Kao San and there I found a new homeless Westerner, looked like he had a broken arm as well. Was living under a makeshift shelter made from plastic sheets. All very sorry looking.

  8. I'm really getting sick and tierd of this place, without us they would fall to pieces but they dont want us, If i have a problem at any time, im going and not coming back.

also, we are but a drop in the ocean of GDP. We kind of don't really factor. Yeah tourist numbers do but cheap Charlie long stayers hardly make a ripple.

I agree, but there a lot of us who have spent A LOT over the years, it adds up when you take into account us buying houses/condos, cars, girllfriend's, wives, kids etc and in the majority of those cases the money has been brought in to Thailand!

We are not all cheap Charlies!

I gotta say man, if your factoring that c*ap in then your living in a dream land. That stuff don't count. Yeah you spent it, hell yeah many others have too, but to think that factors into anything is to really be living in "La La Land".

I better add that I am not saying your a CC. It's just that anyone (and that included me over the years) that is doing these 15 dayers is normally on their arse. I know, I know... Not all, but most are. Why else would you be doing the boomerang run other than you don't have the spondoolix to get a proper paper trail?

  10. Good Pizza, a welcome entrant to the arena if you ask me.

And lets face it... At 4 in the morning you cant really pick a good pizza from a bad one, you just get to work out which one tastes best with alcohol come downs.

Dominos always got my vote on that one.

  11. Hey all.

My wifes 27 month visa for the UK expires on the 1 August 2014.

We were under the assumption that we would have to now upgrade to the full settlement visa but really have no solid plans of settling there.

Her visa type: Settlement Spouse/CP (my name and dob)

Now the question is, can she just go and get this renewed instead of having to apply for ILR?

Would rather go that route as we only really have this visa for convenience sake i.e. the ability to go back there as and when we please.

Also would dearly love to not have to furnish the buggers with any more of my hard earned loot.

They've had their pound of flesh out of me already from the last round.

What I am hoping is that we can get this current visa renewed in Bangkok rather than having to go back to the UK to do it.

Anyway, any help would be gratefully recieved. I tried the UK Border people and got a form response of "this is how you apply for settlement" which was not my question to them but hey...

  12. Then you've got the Senate stage and court stage to go through to know whether they'll be banned. If they're barred from taking their seats.

The Sentate stage is an interesting one. They have a whole bunch of Sentators who are also looking at getting barred. This in my mind will happen before Feb 2nd.

Once they are barred the overall majority needed to ban the 308 MP's lowers significantly as those banned Senators cannot vote for obvious reasons.

I think with the Senate as it stands now it would take around 93 Senators to vote for the impeachment. With those accused Senators banned it lowers the bar significantly to around 63 votes needed.

    Simple math.

When I looked at all this and realized what was going on I gasped. It's just such a brazen clearing of house.

Never, ever seen anything like this anywhere before.
