Thanks for the advice. I think I'll have to let it expire and start afresh via Elviajero route when I return. The TM30 issue is basically I live/sleep on the floor at the back of my girlfriend's restaurant in Chiang Mai. Last year, when applying for the extension we needed the building owners IDcard details. The building has just been sold to Bangkok people and I know it's going to be problematic to get copies of their ID.

I'm on my first 'retirement' visa, due to expire 13 Sept 2017. I urgently have to return to the UK, and had been hoping to extend it 45 days early (around 1st August) then return to the UK. However it appears there is going to be a problem with my TM30, so I'm thinking of heading back imminently, and hopefully extend it in the UK.

Can I do this? Is it straightforward? Do I have to go in person to London? Can I do it in Glasgow?

The UN Irish showed last years semi final between Rangers and Celtic. One of the managers there told me the atmosphere that day was so hostile and acrimonious that they wouldn't be showing the fixture again. KT's sports bar on Ratchamanka Rd should have it on.

This week i flew from the UK to Thailand.

I was issued a triple entry tourist visa in the UK.

At check-in, the lady from British Airways said I could not fly to Thailand without a return ticket.

I told her she was talking nonsense. She phoned her head office and they confirmed requirement of a return ticket..

I was forced to buy a single ticket from BKK to the UK to allow entry onto the plane.

The BA lady told me I could get a full refund of this ticket.........I hope so - it was 2231.27 GBP.

I have actually never, ever, been to a bar in Thailand, even though I have been in Thailand for over two years.

I do not see the point, really, since it all looks quite boring to me, and one just sits there and listens to people basically talk nonsense, while they drink and become ever more illogical by the minute.

Of course, I have been to bars in other countries in East Asia, China, America, HK, and a few other places, but I just have had no urge to walk into a bar in Chiang Mai, or any other Thailand city.

I must admit that it might be fun to go in for a beer and see what happens, except that I am afraid the risks might outweigh any possible entertainment value.

As far as women are concerned, I mean meeting them, I really think it is much better to meet women where one finds those who share ones interests, for example reading.

I think that there must be some really smart and interesting ladies in libraries around here, but I have not yet tried this either.

Actually, what I think that I would prefer is to just go to BKK and sample some really posh eateries, I mean the really good stuff, and then order a glass of wine, and see what happens if I might meet a really interesting chick or something.

I have not given it much thought, since I have been so busy, but maybe some time in the future I will get to go to a bar, or something.

Struggling to understand why somebody would post such nonsensical drivel as this.

Just stating my opinion that every minute spent in a bar is (for me) a wasted minute of my life during which time I could be accomplishing something or enjoying something.

I am replying to the poster's topic regarding the dearth of night life in Chiang Mai, and why.

I suppose that fewer people are frequenting bards since they chose to do other things, just as I so chose myself.

By your own admission you've never even visited a Bar in Thailand, so how can you ever contribute to this thread? This threat is affecting many people's livliehooods.

I had the pleasure to have Birmese housekeepers for 6 years, always via their networks in ChiangMai. PM me if you still need one I'm intimate with the Burmese/refugee communities in ChiangMai. Great people! had Thais a few times but completely worthless and irresponsible.

Mr. chow actually knows a lot about food and restaurants, but I don't remember BBQ chicken being any better in USA, than here. BBQ pork ribs are WAY better in America though.

Don't mean to derail the thread, but re BBQ pork ribs, Sunnee's (Soi 2 Thapae Road, beside veerachai court) does a special BBQ pork ribs on a Monday, after 1pm.

Quite simply the best I have ever tasted, by some distance.

Many Consulates do use similar wording, but it doesn't make any difference to those that are ignorant of the procedure.

As noted several times already, you don't have to be an expert, just follow the advice of those, that are. This same situation gets mentioned on a regular basis, and people are cautioned to make their entry before those dates.

Unfortunately for you, you couldn't be bothered to ask questions before it became an issue. If you want to learn something, perhaps you should spend a little more time reading, instead of whining about a system that seems to work just fine for millions every year.

As others have said it's 99.99% you'll be fine.

I also recommend the Dr on Loi Krow Road.

He did say if I'd come on the 12th he'd have given 60 days.

I obtained a Double entry Tourist visa from Laos, issued 13 Jan 2015.

I entered Thailand the next day, 14 Jan, giving me 60 days.until the 14 march.

On the 13 March I went to CM immigration to buy a further 30 days until the 13 April.

So on the 13 April I went to Myanmar to leave Thailand and return, thereby activating the second 60 days.

However the Imm Officer gave me 30 days.

I pointed out his 'mistake'..............not so he said.

On my visa sticker in my passport there is a category entitled 'Enter before'.

It's dated 12 April 2015.

I'd always thought this the day I had to do my initial entry, but he said my visa was finished already, and instead gave me only 30 days.

Can anyone confirm he is indeed correct?

My g/f and I have had a little restaurant since Nov 2013. We recently expanded to take over the neighbouring business, primarily to add a few more tables. However there are also 4 (utterly dreadful) rooms for rent above.

We may do nothing with them, but I am keen to learn what rules and regs I must conform to if we do look to rent.

From google I have learned little, but believe if it's only 3 rooms we rent, we have no duty to register with the council etc.
