  1. For mine it is Kaspersky Anti-virus (paid for on 2 years subscription) and Jetico Firewall. The only other anti-virus programs I would use are ESET NOD 32 and Antivir as it uses the Kaspersky engine. I also use Spybot and Spy Sweeper in combination with Windows Defender. I've never had any problems using the above programs. They simply work.

  2. I still find though that if you get that "gut" feeling that something isn't right then you're generally fairly spot on. It's not infallible of course.

I play the lottery with my gut feeling. Never been right up to now :o

    Well meom,

I must admit I haven't either but I have had a bit more success with affairs of the heart and that feeling :D Enough that I listen to it now anyway.

  3. Yeah you do have a bit of a tough one indeed. I can imagine it is difficult to be sure that you are suspicious due to her actions or simply being paranoid from past experiences. If you know you're slightly paranoid then you are at an advantage. I still find though that if you get that "gut" feeling that something isn't right then you're generally fairly spot on. It's not infallible of course. If you have any doubts then I would certainly agree that you need to either have them confirmed or put them to rest, one or the other. How you would go about this is another matter entirely though. I don't think following her around is a terribly smart move as how would she react if she caught you out? Put yourself in her shoes and think how you would feel if she was following you around and you caught her out. I would recommend being extremely discreet no matter what method you decide to use. Sorry I can't be of more help. I have been where you are now, previously myself, and it can be very a stressful situation.

    Yep, I think you're a bit right there. ;0

Previously I met a girl who I liked a bunch. With her I was much more sure of the possibility she was lying. She was and I found out, she was a prostitute and lied about everything, so for this girl, I think we should give her a little benefit of the doubt because I'm fully aware that I'm paranoid from the previous experience. I'm much less sure of my suspicions then before, but can't deny that they are there. So you know, while I'm on the brink of actually really caring about this girl, I think its wise to find out if everything she says adds up now before I'm vested instead of later when bad news will break my heart. Know what I mean? Any advice peoples? Maybe I should purchase a fedora, dark glasses and a trench coat and try to find out where she hangs out when not with me. :o

Sorry to hear you're having dramas indiefan. I remember reading somewhere that if you think you need a private investigator then you probably already know the outcome and this will just confirm it. Not my words but after thinking about it I thought they were probably quite accurate as we generally have a reasonably good idea something isn't right. I don't know of anyone here personally but I would imagine a bit of Googling would get you a fairly long list. I hope it turns out to be you worrying over nothing.

  5. I would have to agree with others regarding the Acer. I have an Acer 8204WLMi and it is fantastic. A fairly high end machine in the Acer stable but well worth every cent. The warranty has been awesome and I will admit to having this and other, earlier Acer models have their DVD RW fail nearly at a year but have always had them replaced under warranty with no problems at all. In all fairness I do a lot of burning as well. That has been the only problem besides a defective cooling fan which was also replaced under warranty and I've had no problems since. I'm quite happy to stay with Acer and find their products top quality. Just my opinion anyway. I do replace my laptops/notebooks every 2 years as I feel if you keep them any longer than this you are falling behind in the technology advantages. You also get a lot of bang for your buck I think.

Unfortunately, Acer doesn't make anything like the 8 series right now, don't know why. The very high end acers are all consumer class Aspires.

I also have an 8204, which I bought after having the 803 a few years back. The 803 was the best laptop ever - never had a single problem with it. Nothing! Only laptop I have owned where I could say that. The battery lasted 4 hours or more, as promised. It was dead silent and cool. It just worked. The 8204 is great too in terms of build quality. I had the fan replaced too, and the HD once, but nothing since. HD is not really acer's fault IMHO, and the HD mount inside the 8204 is excellent. The battery is kaput now but no wonder after 2 years and a few months.

I also had a cheapo TM 4600 inbetween. This computer showed me that Acer service is excellent as it was in the shop half the time I owned it. Core problem was it was simply way too hot so component after component failed. A lemon. But Acer's business line is very good.

The 8204 is now my backup machine, and getting heavy use now that the MacBook Pro is being repaired... I am glad I have it :o

Yes I am looking around at the moment for a suitable replacement as this one is due to be upgraded and am extremely disappointed with Acer's seeming change in model direction. I did find something similar but I can't remember what Acer site it was. It certainly wasn't the Thai one anyway and the specs were a bit disappointing as well.

I am not a fan of the Aspire series either and have always used the TravelMate models and apart from the couple of small problems mentioned previously have been very happy with them. I have a mate with an Asus and I must admit it does seem like a fairly good machine but only time will tell of course. As with all things you will find that there are good and bad and everyone will have a different experience to impart.

  6. I got a laptop installed with Vista and it was ssslllooowww. I gave it a full week, trying to get to terms with the slowness and the many changes "under the hood" but after that I gave up and installed XP on it. Never regretted that and not going to switch to Vista until there are no other options.

    Hi Phil,

Just curious as to what version of Vista it was? The reason I ask is I have run both Home Premium and Ultimate and had very different results from the two. Whereas I have found the Ultimate version to be very stable, no dramas and quite snappy with a bit of fiddling, the Home Premium has been the complete opposite and would turn anyone off using Vista at all. It would be interesting to see how many other people were having problems with the Home Premium version as opposed to the Ultimate.

  8. Well done Thanh,

you were having a few issues with Linux there before and I'm glad you didn't give up on it and persevered. Great to see you get it all up and running and I hope you have many hours of enjoyment out of Ubuntu. Congratulations. :o

  9. Spot on Brit, and Webroot (Spy sweeper) was offering a free years subscription online not all that long ago. I thought it may have been a hoax but it was indeed a genuine offer. Filled out the Webroot form and received the activation code in the e-mail. If I can find the link again I'll post it.

  11. I always think that it's a bit sad when people refer to other people in regards to the ethnic/national group they belong to rather than to them as individuals. Thai girls are just as unique and individual as people from other countries, and to think otherwise is just ignorance.

    Thanks Garro!

That's the most intelligent thing that has been said in this whole thread. :o

  12. Isn't this the movie where Stallone battles those 2 evil villains, incontinence & erectile dysfunction?

:o Yeah although he gets taken out in the end by the king pin Senility......oops, sorry for ruining the ending!

  13. I have an Acer 8204WLMi and it's about 18 months old now and i haven't had any issues with the screen brightness at all. the only time it is hard to see is, as another poster stated, when it's in direct sunlight. I had a cooling fan die on me but was replaced under warranty here in Bangkok. Acer here in Bangkok have been fantastic with anything regarding my warranty. I show them the documents and they repair it no questions. I did buy both Acers here in Bangkok though so I don't know if that makes any difference? The only two issues I have ever had with Acer was one DVD burner in an old notebook I had died under warranty and was replaced without a drama and the fan issue. I would be taking it in to have it repaired.
