and the list could simply go on and on forever really:

    7. Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory

    8. Placebo - Meds

There's too many more to list I'm afraid.

  2. So often people miss the big picture in life. This is not a Thai thing or a western thing. This can happen in any country no matter were your at.

Exactly suricate! Try doing the same in any night club in any part of the world and it would probably end up with the same result. If someone is rude why do others feel the necessity to return the favour? This is how things escalate out of control very quickly. As for for pushing, shoving, clipping etc someone else then if you do this be prepared for the consequences and don't whinge when you get them.

  3. Royal Orchid Program:

Where can I find info about "How many miles I need to fly from BKK to Europe for free"

    ClaudeFella,

If you log into your account (Royal Orchid) there are a list of choices on the left hand side of the screen. I think it's called redeeming awards and then you'll be able to open the air awards section which will give you a table of distance vs award points. It depends on where you want to go but in economy it will cost between approximately 50-70 000 award points (this is on Thai only not on an affiliate airline).

  4. Hi Billd766,

Reinmar is spot on and your "copy" of Windows is indeed on a hidden FAT32 partition on your hard disk. When you first booted up it should have asked you if you would like to create a rescue disk? Make sure to back up anything you want to keep from the original though as this will wipe all your data whilst installing the new version. I would advise getting rid of Norton as it's rubbish. If you're going to pay for an anti-virus or security suite then I would buy either Kaspersky Internet Security 7 or ESET Smart Security 3. If you are looking for a free one then I would recommend Avira Antivir as it is extremely good.

  5. Also the install may get hung up on PCMCIA. I had this problem with Knoppix and a couple of others and just specified <name of distro> nopcmcia and away it went. There are a great deal of little things that can pull you up with Linux and it's usually just a small instruction at the pre-boot command line to get you up and running. As another poster has said the forums are generally full of these problems and their subsequent fixes. Good luck with it all. I have found that the easiest one to install was PCLinuxOS and this is now my distro of choice.

  6. Hi ozymandious,

The branded OS you're talking about is called an OEM copy and is pre-installed on the computer. These use a special OEM key that are all exactly the same (for that particular brand of computer) and are activated when you first connect to the internet using a combination of the OEM key, software licensing table in the BIOS and digitally embedded license. As to upgrading it should be the same as the normal DVD version.

The serial number is extremely important to hang onto as well as the information regarding purchase etc as the key can only be used (for an online registration) once and once only. If your computer takes a dump as you put it and you need to reinstall Vista the same key you purchased will NOT work a second time for online activation and you will have to speak to M$, answer some questions and explain why you are using the same key again i.e. hard drive failure etc. You can also have a look at your current key using command line. This does not apply to a phone activation.

As to the pricing, as far as I'm aware there is a set cost for an upgrade to Vista no matter what version of Vista you currently have. I may be wrong here but that's what I believe is the setup at present. I hope this has been of some help.

  7. I think it also depends on the environment of the bars. If your talking university bars in the West, you may find your sweetheart. If your talking bars/clubs in Thailand, you probably won't. One difference with Thailand and other countries like it is that it is not culturally acceptable for girls to hang out in bars. Therefore, most of the good girls that are marriage potential you will not find in the bars/clubs in Thailand. In the West where it isn't so taboo for girls to hang out in bars/clubs, you have a better chance to meet that special one. Unless a skanky whore is your type, a Thai beer bar is not a place to meet the future wife.

what a load of <deleted>, lets talk about the west for a moment, you either meet people through your work environment , you were at college/university with them or you met in a bar/club. Same as in here in Thailand you stay away from Pattaya and the Nana/cowboy/patpong in bangkok, and go to the rest of the entertainment venues in bangkok you will meet a different set of people. Most people the world over meet their future partner in an entertainment establishment, same as in Thailand, you go out, yes many single thai girls want a thai bvoyfreind but also many want a farang boyfreind, same as in the west you get to know someone first, you have a chance of a relationship that may last, you just want a <deleted> then go to the above mentioned places.

P.S this is an edit, i thought i had something semi-intelligent to say but as i am pissed can't remember what it was, and my above post after re-reading it makes no sense to me either, ###### heineken.

Well said buriramboy and I agree. The "bars" people are talking about are not what I would class as a bar. There are plenty of night spots that aren't just full of tourists and BG's and are much more upmarket than your open aired bus shelter with a few chairs and BGs scattered around. These cater directly to the tourist trade so what would you expect to find there?

  8. I didn't wait for the English, just assumed I couldn't get through. I can never understand those Thai recordings from the phone company for some reason. I don't mind paying, its just that I thought it wasn't accessible.

I'll wait to hear back from the company to see if I can do through email then.

    Hi sbk,

I had the same problem trying to call the major phone company in Australia as I couldn't use any of their listed numbers from Thailand. I had to get a friend of mine to actually call them for an international number. It was good due to the fact that, as another poster has stated, you don't have to go through all the rubbish at the start and you get connected straight away to an actual person. Have you got someone in the states that could do the same for you and get you an international number? It saves quite a bit of money as you're not left hanging around on hold for hours at an end. Hope this is of some help.

  9. Hi Nikkijah,

If you're going to go to Pantip then have a look in IT City. It's right up on the top floor. I have brought my last three computers from there (all Laptops but they have desktops as well) and found the service to be extremely good. Also everything is a marked price so you can see what everything is going to cost beforehand. The would certainly not be the cheapest in the plaza but I have got a one year international warranty with all my machines as well as the two year local warranty. I had to get a DVD drive replaced under warranty a couple of years ago and had no problems at all. I just dropped it off, explained to the guy what the problem was and that it was under warranty, then came back a few days later and picked it up.

The price marked is the price for everyone although you can do a bit of wheeling and dealing and get some extra software thrown in if you want. Everything is new and not second hand and re-bundled. I always go back there due to the fact that I won't get ripped off and the service is, as I said, extremely good. Each to their own though but it may be worth a look if your worried about the rip off factor and getting s/h goods instead of new ones and you want to buy in Bangkok.

  10. Nebukanezar,

Cheers for that bit of info. It's nice to see someone is doing something about this rubbish but as Mid has said there's still a log way to go. A start has to be somewhere though so a give Dove a big thumbs up. I wouldn't have thought I'd see a beauty based company look into this at all. A pleasant change!

  11. Having been around 1000's of ecstasy users that sounds like a very wierd profile and one I doubt highly..

Yaba or other speeds / meth then sure..

I agree with that 100% LivinLOS,

You would be extremely hard pressed to find someone being violent on ecstasy. I don't say it couldn't happen but it would be extremely unusual. As LivininLOS has said meth etc would certainly be more likely or a combination but on it's own would be hard to imagine.

  12. I think I am the only Silly Fools fan here. :o

No mate you're not. I would be very interested to know why they are now singing in English myself. The new sound doesn't sound too bad and I think I will end up liking it but it just isn't the same as the original. I know that there was a pretty big drama with Toe and the rest of the band and he said the big goodbye. It was due apparently to the band wanting him to sing something (in English maybe?) and he refused to change his style and left. A sad day for all Silly Fools fans! I will have to hear the whole new album before I make anymore comments on the new vocalists ability to win me over though.

    Cheers

P.S. It's amazing the posts you find when you go digging about.

  13. this whole topic is one of the sadder things here .................................

these advertisers wouldn't have the ball's to try their spin in western countries due to the advanced laws ,

lower than a snakes belly the lot of 'em

I agree wholeheartedly Mid. I was actually commenting to my wife the other day about one of the advertisements on at the moment. It has 2 young women having some sort of dance off (?) in a courtyard and then someone makes the comment regarding the skin colour of one of the girls and everything stops. The lady in question then looks at her "brown" skin and looks incredibly embarrassed whilst the other "whiter" girl cheers with the rest of the crowd. It made me furious! I could imagine having that on television in Australia....not! I have tried to show my wife the irony of "brown/tanned people trying to be white and "white/non-tanned" people trying to be brown. If it wasn't so sad it would be quite funny.

  14. I say any country still using the death penatly for drug trafficing, the citizens of that country should also be punished in the same way if caught trafficing drugs into other countries.......................

    I totally agree with you.

I will third that motion! Although as has been shown, even when the penalty is clearly stated as being death for trafficking people just seem to think "it only happens to others". I just cannot understand the mentality of these people! With the last case in Singapore everyone in Australia was jumping up and down about how unfair it all was that the guy got the death penalty and wanted the government to step in and stop it. If they didn't do it in the first place they would not be facing the death penalty and be back home. Don't do the crime if you can't face the punishment!

  15. Thais jailed for life in Briton ex-husband murder

PHETCHABURI, Thailand, Sept 6 - A Thai court sentenced a Thai woman and three men to life in jail for killing her British ex-husband, burning his body and burying the remains in the jungle.

The sentence was commuted from death because they had pleaded guilty, judge Sarayuth Busayanawin said.

"The defendants' testimonies were useful to the trial, therefore their sentence has been commuted to life in prison," Sarayuth said.

The court found the ex-wife, Panadda Charnaud, 35, guilty of hiring the three men to kill Toby Charnaud, a former farmer from Chippenham in Wiltshire, at her farm in the Kaeng Krajan National Park, 180 km (110 miles) south of Bangkok in March last year.

The defence lawyer told Reuters all four would appeal.

She wanted sole custody of their son, Daniel, who now lives with his father's family in England, the court said. The Charnaud family lawyer said the motive was to "inherit everything through their son".

Panadda, who reported her ex-husband missing to police in April last year, told the court she took Daniel to a Buddhist temple carnival on the day Boontien Puipong, Chatree Prathum and Pinit Sattabutr beat her ex-husband to death.

They tried to get rid of the body by burning it on 20 kg (44 lb) of charcoal, then buried the remains in the jungle, the judge said.

Charnaud's family became suspicious after Panadda reported their son missing and hired a locally based Scottish private eye to find out what happened to him, British newspapers reported.

The agent checked mobile-phone records and discovered that Charnaud had been at Panadda's house on the day he disappeared.

When police raided the house, two of the killers confessed and led them to where the remains were buried.

Charnaud met and married Panadda, a former Bangkok bargirl, in Thailand in 1997, then sold his farm and bought two bars in the seaside town of Hua Hin, according to British newspapers.

He divorced Pannada because of her gambling debts and gave her a 777,000 baht (11,000 pound) settlement, they said.

    - Reuters

Is the moral of the story , do not marry bar girls ?

    stupid thing to say

It is considering in the other story she was originally a security guard! Of course though that doesn't sell newspapers does it.I keep forgetting that every person that has done something horrendous in this world is a BG. It's saddening to see that some people equate Thailand = BG. What a sad bunch you must be. Try stepping out of the bar for an afternoon and you may just meet some Thai people that aren't BG's, work in the hospitality industry, or even female to further confuse you.

Anyway what a disgusting excuse for a human being! I hope she sees out the remainder of her pitiful life stuck behind bars and gets no early release. What a waste of human life!

  16. If you want something that can be booted from (CD/DVD), that supports usb

    i'd suggest Acronis Trueimage.

    It's super good !

True Image is excelent!! But for a Laptop you need to use the Workstation Version.

But Acer use NTI Backup Now. My Acer 5593 came with NTI Backup Now and I had done the Backup to an Recovery DVD for Drive C and a total backup for Drive C and D to USB Drive and it works well.

NTI Drive Backup is another solution, works as well as Acronis.

The Bios of the newer Acer all supporting to boot from USB Drive as well.

May you need to check the installation of the Laptop. By startup the Laptop hit [Alt] and [F10] to come to the recovery option and check is hidden Partition still exist. If they exist, start windows, go to eRecovery and and reinstall the original backup software, in my case NTI.

If the hidden Partition isn't reachable, that means sonmeone has "modified" the HDD and you've loose the recovery software.

If can't solve the problem, send me a PM and I'll give you a link (temporarly) to download the NTI software for Acer.

    Hi Reimar,

I'm using Acronis True Image Home 10 on my TravelMate 8204WLMi laptop with no problems at all. I don't know why you think you need the workstation version? It is by far one of the best backup and disk cloning software out there and will work fine on a laptop.

    Cheers

    Jimmy

    Hi Jimmy,

True Image Home is the Workstation version, just named as Home! The other verions are: Server and Workstation (named as ..).

By the way, the Travelmate Series from Acer is the one from the former TI Section while Aspire are from Acer directly. A few years ago Acer was taking over the Notebook Section from Texas Instruments (TI).

As I wrote before: True Image is execllent! But the Aspire 9950 Series is coming with the original from NTI and the Recovery system of the Aspire is based on this one. That's why I recommend to use that software and it's the original software preinstalled from the Notebook Manufacturer. And why pay for a different other software if you've an original? No any need to do so!!

On the other hand I'm a legal User of the whole Acronis Series which I like because of the features.

And what is: by far one of the best software?? For many users the best software is the one which they are able to use with all features without the need to learn everytime much new "things"! You're productive with things you know how to use and to handle and you're un-productive with things while you don't know how to handle and use because of lack of knowledge!

For my own use, I use for cloning NOT Acronis, I use HD-Clone because it's features that I con clone form even not standard formats or to and from a USB drive for example! But that's for me and for others may it's different!

Thanks for clearing that up Reimar as it truly had me baffled (obviously not too hard to do :o ). Thanks for the info on the Aspire and TravelMate too. I haven't tried out an Aspire but I'm a huge fan of the TravelMate series. Good points as well as logical ones mate something that I am not at times. It's quite easy to get carried away with "what's the best software for X" type of questions and it's nice to have someone pull you back into line and get your head out of the clouds :D

    Cheers

    Jimmy

P.S. Apologies for the late reply.
