  1. The best place I have found to have REAL Thai food is at our local Wat on Sundays. Everyone brings food to feed the Monks and we all get to eat what is left. It always looks like a Thai buffet. Which on Sundays is alot. Any other day not many people come to feed the Monks so the pickens are slim. And the best part is it is free. Except for tam boon, which is important for your life anyway.

  2. I eat "street" food all of the time and have not once had a problem! If I eat any type of Farang food to wit McD KFC Sub W.. I do seem to have a problem with the bowels. It must have something to do with me living in the Kingdom as a child eating Issan food and loving spicey food.

  3. Hi,

Where can i buy Budweiser beer in Bangkok? I have not seen Budweiser beer for sale at Lotus, Tops, Carrefour stores in my local area.

I would also like to know if there are any good mexican food restaurants in Bangkok. I don't think there are any Taco Bells in Thailand that i am aware of.

Why would anyone wish to drink Buttwiper beer :o ,when you have beer Chang :D :D

  4. Sunday lunch at the good old FC this week will be Roast Silverside of Beef, massive Yorkshire puddings, Horseradish sauce, Brussle Sprouts, Carrots, Roast Taters, Bisto & Oxo Gravy

    post-27891-1145965925.jpg

All this for a mind boggling ฿250

Also we have a Toyota Avanza leaving Pattaya for Surin at around 10.00 Thursday moning. Cost

    ฿600 per person,up to 4.

Martin, you could have at least got a better picture than this, looks like your bladder after agood session! ANd the blood coming out is not very appetizing.

I belive that it is called "rare"and that really is how most people like their roast beef.

  5. Hey not all Thai food is full of chiles. It is a blend of sweet, sour, salty, spicey and bland. That is what makes Thai food such an adventure :D Well maybe not bland :o

  6. Just a bit different but.My sister in law was bit on the face by a "big black" dog in Issan when she was a kid. That was about 30 yrs ago.The wife has told me that all she remembers is her father killing the dog and then they ate it,not my wife though.Everyone in the moo ban was invited. She said that she only remembered the "old" people eating it.That is the only time that my wife can ever remember anyone in Issan eating a dog.Just an interesting tid bit of information.

  7. Just a few photos I took of Phanom Rung on the 24 of October in2004.I thought you people may enjoy them.

Not sure what I did wrong but here are the photos

I have many more but I try to post the ones with no people in them.Impossible most of the time.

  8. Hope your sites work out for you Joklaweil but i fear you really will struggle..

If you were focused on say bkk, phucket, pattaya then no problems at all to build up a forum community...but korat :o

Now ive not spent as much time here as these other guys but what i have noticed is that many farangs come here because they dont want to interact like in other parts of Thailand..

For example if for instance i was to take a walk around either mall, tesco or big c the chances are if there is another farang there our paths will not cross :D eye contact will not be made and chit chat certainly will not be exchanged.

I have seen with my own eyes a farang with family in tow creeping around the isles in tescolotus just to avoid crossing paths..

Now dont get me wrong, each to thier own but it happens everywhere..now its not the case that i am going to go up to a stranger and blurt out my whole life story and bore anyone to death but this does happen.

I have seen a small gathering of German speaking guys who do meet in the Mall but the chances are if i walk past they will either stare as though the want to kill me or turn thier backs :D

What im trying to say here is if you are going to put effort and time into building up a community then think about who is going to join it..especially when at presnt TV offers an Issan forum..

Yes there's no doubt that because the REAL expat community is small in Korat, the VIRTUAL community will be small as well, but (for me at least) something like a Korat Expats Club is all the more important because there are so few of us...

I definitely agree about the 'get away from it' factor - I've only been in Korat a short time and I JUST LOVE IT cos I have that feeling of being in the 'real Thailand'.. Generally, I don't miss an environment like Bkk or Hua Hin or Pattaya where farangs are everywhere... BUT there are some times when I just want to share a beer and chat with someone who has a similar cultural perspective on things...

I think that also, we'll need to accept that the Korat Expats Club will be loose and flexible - some participants will be more active than others, but that should be just fine with all concerned...

    Cheers

    sr

Here here sportrider :D I wholey with you on this

  10. This is just plain sick sick sick! :o What is happening to Thailand, it's getting worse and worse everyday.

Darn for those pervert sex tourists out there….there is more to Thailand than the big elephants and hot women.

And to all Thai ladies: close your legs to the enemy!

Gosh….I very don’t know who is to blame anymore …..

isaan girls?..... Thai men…. farang men….or the government?

May be somebody can shed some light into this?

Blame is placed on......MONEY and HORNY PEOPLE

  11. How can one be sure that those insects have no DDT ? I have never ate any insect but as I was young I used to try a couple of times Khai Maengdaa...dont know in english, taste yummy but Maengda has very strong smell . I have been away for so long from Thailand , and found out that the last 10 years we have lots of insects grill to serve tourist attraction. :D Thailand trying to do everything to bring tourist in town. Smile smile..... :D next recipe might be..... :o Khai farang ping...hehehe... :D

I do not buy from venders because I do not think they taste good to wit OLD or greasy. When we or friends have them it is because we have caght them our self in the paddys with traps. So no DDT here. But from venders you never know. How do they get so many of them?

  12. Well according to "some" people, Korat is not Issan so maybe the Korat folk shouldn't be posting here as if they are in Issan. :D

And then again, according to "some" other people: "What about the farangs in Korat? I can't say I know that many, but I do know a few. They can largely be put into two groups - teachers and alcoholics". Yea, yea, I know where that leaves me. :D

Where is that repellant spray when you need it, Cheeky?. :o

    Cheers Ken,

People from Korat speak Korat language,it is different then Issan or central or southern Thai. They are all about the same but are different. So as to the first sentance yes.As to the second sentance...I belive that you have now found and fallen into a large drum of the famous Cheeky repellant :D

Issan equals peace, tranquil, beauty, food, retirement, laid back, friendly peoples, and scenery. What else are you looking for?

    Cheers bangaeng,

I vote for your thoughts of Issan.I had fallen in love with Issan from the moment that I had first set foot, eyes and .................in Issan. It is truly one of the most beautiful places in Thailand to live. For me.

Issan equals peace, tranquil, beauty, food, retirement, laid back, friendly peoples, and scenery. What else are you looking for?

    No it doesn't , he's lieing !! :D

    :D @Vic

I wrote this as it sounds to good to be true. Who will beleive it :D

    Cheers banpaeng,

I hope no one will belive what you have written. That way they will not come to Issan and reck it for the rest of us.STAY AWAY farang

  14. It does seem funny that a 'newbie' can master the quote facility so quickly and then even quote a post to add 'thanks' to - do you think it's just a troll?

it seems this site is infested with idiots

What is that that you said...."I'm glad I found this forum I fit right in" :o

  15. Thanks for input guys...

yes ive seen plenty of reviews about Ip star and unfortunately most has been bad...i see they have a new adsl satalite system which is something like 3500bt(a massive saving on before) to be installed and 1500bt per month but not heard of any reliability yet!

Yes we will have a phone line sorted out, when we built our house we actually enquired about a phone service which involves putting a small box on the top of a pole and pointing towards the city, all looked fine when they done the checks for signal but when they came to install it all they had to put the post 15 metres high so we didnt bother...

After this we had a chat with our neighbour who is a town counciller type thing (aubadoir) and he agreed if we give him 3500bht he would concrete the road to our house and give us the phone line from his home (which i know is reliable)....

So far he has done the road so im hoping he is good to his word with the phone line..

Before we had that option i believe we had a quote for about 15000bht and a long wait..(no numbers left or something) :o

I just dont want to sign up to something or spend loads on eqipment which is going to be letting me down..

    Thanks guys :D

Well well I see that you have found the best way to get things done in a MooBaan.Just grease the correct palm and ta da!You get pretty much what you want and quicker most of the time :D

  16. If you want a carefree vacation away from the hussle and bussle of tourist spots then come to a quaint town just 80 kms NE of Korat, 20 kms from Phi Mai. Relax and watch the locals get on with their day to day lives in this very Farang friendly town.

I have lived in this town for the past 5 years and would like now help the local economy by promoting tourism to this place so for more details just ask me.

    :o

    Sawasdee Koratlover,

As soon as I get back to our little MooBaan (just west of A2) to see our family the wife and kids and I will come on over for a visit.Just please do not send any "tourists"over our way!!!!!!!!!!!!!We really like it without the tourists!!!!

    Hi Blue Eyes,

Your place looks really traditional, our town has plenty of these types of living accomadation.

Give me a shout if you want to visit and we can have a good chat over a beer or 3.
