  1. Yes life goes on with out power supply but why the hell, people should complain this is 2012 not 1912 rural folks should have same services as the city slickers.

This I assume is in a rural area of Thailand. The same as a rural area anywere else in the world. Some people just do not get it.Complain? To who? This is a rural area.Have you any real idea what a RURAL area is like? And in Thailand? Not everyone in the world can have the same services that a city has.It is just not cost effective. And no the government can not do for everyone always.

  2. Wait for the guy in the truck with the load speaker saying he will trade a bucket for your dog.Last time he came around our village the familys two dogs did not bark and they always bark. All they did was sit still at the house and watch as the truck with the barking dogs came and went.I think they knew for sure who that was.

  3. Peeling an egg that someone else hard boiled is a guess as to how easy it will peel.To make sure that the egg will peael easy you need to......First use the freshest eggs possible.Put cold water in the pot,add fresh eggs, bring to a boil, remove from heat and put top on pot, wait 15 minutes.Slowly cool eggs by adding cool water to pot, wait drain then repeat untl eggs are cool to the touch. Then peel under runing water or in a bowl of cool water.

  4. Not only do I make my own Thai food at home but I do alomost all of the cooking. The wife and most people at the Wat say that I make better Thai food then most Thais. There was this one woman at the Wat that really liked the food that I made until......She found out that the farang was making it.At that point all she would say is how bad it tasted and farang not know how to make Thai food. She is now always asking me how you know make Thai food it very good.I guess she got tired of everyone else saying how good the farang cook Thai food.

  5. My wife just calls me by my first name. But some times she will call me Pe (first name). When she does that I know she is going to ask me for money for the extended family.Or for a good amount of money or to go some where on a trip. With me as the driver for the "group".As to the original post. The wife will look at me like she understands what I said and then do something different.I say do you understand me?And sure enough she will say yes.Even though she did not.I have found over the years it is best just to relaxe and try again. The funny thing is she reads, writes and speaks english great.

  6. Wow!! Just what do you want to do with them?I have some seeds and some dried. The hottest pepper around. The wife will not use it and me I do not like it because it is just to HOT to eat.I use it as a "you want to try some HOT chile pepper"?When you see the look on some peoples face .....I get such a laugh. Not in country so can not help you.If I hear I will post.

  7. Do you suspect that the bottled water is not clean enough for drinking?

I would think it is not if botteled water is good but that rain water is FREE and is it good comeing off of the roof.I have also always thought about this.We use only rain water from the roof to drink and cook with. But is it healthy to do so?We do not buy water in the bottle unless we have to.

  8. No aunts, cousins, mother in laws available but we are still looking. I find it very surprising how difficult it is to find a nanny/maid here. Thanks for all the replies.

If you are still looking we may have someone that would like to work for you.We are south of you in Tachan about 60km. That is about 20km north of Phi Mai.A little info about the age, number of kids, work to do, time at work and the time off. Also the pay.PM if you would like.Oh would they need to speak great, good,ok or no english.

  9. Yes I have bribed more then once. But to be fair about it,it was not a brib per say. I was in the wrong and I have only paid half of what I would have had to pay for the real fine at the station with a ticket.Once I was stopped going 80km on the Rama and the lighted sign said 50km.As I went thru the closed tool plaza I was stopped and asked for 1000THB!!!!!No way no how was that going to happen!I said give me ticket I go to station.Well that did not sit well with the bib.He called over another that spoke better english. They talked then decided I should pay 500thb.I say again give me ticket I go to station.Up to this point it has taken about 15 minutes of the one and about 5 on the others time.I am sure that they started to think this farang is costing them money. You see time with me is time away from other cash cows. They finnaly decided 200thb and they will pay fine for me later at station OK?No problem.

Once on my way to Roi Et I did finaly recive a real ticket. It was for passing in a no passing zone. How they knew I did it I have no real idea.Unless they hide in the paddy. You see I got stopped about 2km from the place that it happened. At a four way stop that had the station right there.I tried to pay with no ticket by saying I go to station and they said yes come. That is when I saw that the station was across the street.I walk in and there is this guy not in uniform speaks great english thats different(remember this is rural Issan)wants my licence tells me what I did and where, the fine was 400thb.Which is the correct amount with ticket. After I get back into the car the wife tells me"they good police".Why they good police I say,Her answer......They give you ticket not take money. She's right!!!dam_n woman.

  10. We enjoy the food.It is over priced yes but the food we get is always fresh and of great quality. We have never had a bad meal and yes the duck is fantastic! As to bland, maybe, but it does have great flavor, yes it is not spicy, but then again just because you are in Thailand why does everything have to be spicy.Yeah no one said anything about spicy but.

  11. First off this should be moved to the food section. Now to properly boil an egg to get a hard boiled egg do the following.Put cold water in pot,add a little salt, add eggs, bring to a boil, cover and remove from heat, let stand 15 minutes with top on.Drain water put eggs onm counter to cool.Once cool crack.peel and eat.As to how long it takes?Never timed from start to eating.

  12. If you have ever eaten somtom you have probably eaten this. It is pha lah please excuse my spelling of it I amnot sure how it is spelt but it is just your basic fermented fish so common here.

You would do well not to eat anything with palaar in it. It can contain parasites that can really bu%%er you up. Very sick with fevers, stomach cramps and diarrhoea and then long term carcinogenic damage your liver if left untreated. Millions in Thailand are long term infected but don't know it. Not nice - been there done that. Same same laarp plaa, if made with uncooked fish.

Here is a photo of the families home made batch.Yumy yes ?

  13. A little up date. The old woman that owns the land behind us is an aunt on my wifes side. The property that we bouhgt was owned by my wifes sister. The land was "sold" to her sister by the aunt a long time ago.The aunt found out that we are thinking about putting a wall around the area of our land that is next to her's.That is why this is all comeing about now.Since we would not buy her land at the inflated price she is giveing it or sellling not sure which to the girl.It also seems that my wife is getting pressure to allow the crossing of same, from some family members. It looks like I am now the BAD guy in all of this."you bad,bad farang you" :whistling:

She has never asked to cross our land before. In fact my wife has saidin the past she would have to sell the land for cheap because she not have direct access to it.Like I said before they can acess their land with a vehical just in a round about way.

Best course of action....We will allow crossing of land to only her until we build the wall but not after.Sorry the wall is in your way sweety.

  14. After a little more investigation it seems that there is no letter. It also is found that the "old"woman that wishes to sell the land is not selling it but transfering title to a 30 yr old relitive girl.So it now looks like they know that the land will be worth more with the direct access to the main road. The wife now understands what is going on.No way no how will we now allow them to use our land as access!!!!!!!!!!!!!The life and times of living in Thailand.

  15. We have a piece of land with a red chanot in my wifes name next to the main road thru the village. There is a peice of property behind ours that the owner does not have direct access to from the main road. There is nothing in the chanot that grants them access across our proerty to theirs. They do have a signed letter from the previous owner to allow them access across our land to get to theirs from the main road. They can access their land by a round about way from the main road along a clong to their land without crossing ours.

So the question is.Do we have to allow them to cross our land or not? They wanted to sell their land to us,at an inflated price, after they found out we had bought the land next to the main road.So now they come up with this letter. The letter is real because the previous owner is my wifes sister and forgot to tell us about the letter. The letter is about 30 years old.It was not noterized or recorded with the chanot.

We are thinking about letting them have a small area 2 meters wide at the edge of our property to use as a road to access their land.It seems to me to be the best way to save face for everyone. But then again it will allow them direct access to the main road.Which will make their property worth more to a buyer. The buyer could be the local bus repair guy or pig farmer who knows. What do you think?

  16. Not meant to stir up a heated conversation. But may I humbly ask you the following questions.

1--Did you or any of your family members ever live in any of these cities?

2--Just how long did you spend in each of these cities?

3--Do you have any close relatives living in these cities?

4--What do you think the terminology "deep south" means and particularly how many cities does it include?

5--Do you personally know any local Thai who lives and works in YaLa, NaRaTheVard and PartTaNee?

6--Or do you receive your input on deep south from news media, especially from farang news media?

    #1--No

    #2--None

    #3--No

    #4--Deep south?Not sure

    #5--No

#6--Some/None.It comes from MANY friends and close relatives (Thai)that have lived and or know much of what goes on in the south. The wife tells me that the "southern"Thais are much more "hot".What does that mean? They are much more likely to do violence if they feel you have wronged them.If you happen to be around and are not involved,oh well tough luck. That in it self would make me think to live some where else.

To many other places in Thailand,or the world for that to live,to ask yourself, why the south of Thailand if you hear these problems.

On the other hand I am told that many Thais with money do live in the south of Thailand. But they also send their children to Bangkok/north to live and go to school.I wonder why they would do that ?Send their children to live and study away from were their parents live.

I am no expert and only have my own opinion.Yes it is true it is based on only second hand information. But is not much of what we get in this life from the experiences of others?

Oh on the thought of language.I speak english, spanish and thai. The wife thai, mandarin and english. The kids english, thai, spanish and mandarin. What else do you need? All depends right?
