  1. Y'all should try some of those Peruvian specialties which are cooked in a rich cilantro pesto. Really excellent stuff. How can you big boys be so afraid of a 'lil ole leaf?

I really enjoy cilantro. There is a Peruvian chicken soup made with it.The soup water is green because of the amount of cilantro in it.The Peruvian hot sauce that is green is made with cilantro and is very hot and taste fantastic!!So many dishes would not be the same without it.If you use to much of it though the dish will have a sweet taste to it.I have to have my cilantro. :)

  2. Livin in Thailand 2009 price wise,

The home that I have in the US cost about 250kUS.The same house or close to it in Thailand cost me 70kUS.Seems to be cheaper in Thailand.Oh same quality also. :D The food that many people call "street food".Well that is the food that our family makes in the US and Thailand. But it is cheaper to eat on the street then to make it in Thailand.Saves us time to buy the stuff and cook ourself and cheaper. :D To go to the doctor or dentist is 2/3 the price that we would pay in the US without insurance.Oh same quality or better. :D Same with the meds we may need. :cheesy: If we wish to travel by public transportation.A heck of alot cheaper in Thailand then US.Well sometimes not the same quality though. :D The clothes that we buy, much cheaper in Thailand! We are not the buy Guchi kind of people anyway.Hey, is not most of the clothes that people buy in the US made in Thailand,India,Bangladesh,Vietnam,Hati,or many other countries other then the US.So the markup of the clothes is pure profite to the big corporations and not to the little guy that made the cloths?Another one for liveing in Thailand. The frige, washer and dryer, about 3.5kUS in the US, 850US in Thailand.Little less quaility but serves our needs. Water, electric A heck of alot CHEAPER.Just depends on the family and the weather. You know the hotter it is the more baths to take. Some times you take 5 a day. :D But then again the rain water out of the cistern is free. The AC does cost though. The stove in the US 1kUS, in Thailand a really good one cost us 150US.Yeah lovin it! :D The new computer the same as the US.To go to the 7-11 or some place like that, bottle of water in US about 1.5US in Thailand .30US.And most other things the same difference.

Now to the other side.My car. :) In the US my Honda civic cost me about 18kUS,in Thailand it would cost me about 20kUS at the exchange at 32thb to the dollar. No I did not buy it in Thailand,Public transport suites us just fine for now.The plasma TV about 1kUS in the US same one at the mall in Korat 2.5kUS OUCH!!!!

I guess what I would like to say is that the cost to live anywhere really is dependent on the people and what they spend on to begin with from where they come from and how they already live their lives. For us it is overall half of what it would cost in the US to live,on an average. Some things cost more but most things that we live by cost much less. But that is us,and I am sure many more. :D

If you wish to live a "western" life like you lived in "western" town with all the bells and wistles like you were still working and pulling in the big bucks ,No you can not do that here. But then again you could not do that anywere.

Side note here, the reason for the money in US dollars is because it looks like the people looking at the post are thinking in western money and not Thai baht. 32THB to the dollar

  3. Getting a visa to Vietnam is fast and easy.Get the form off of the net, file it out go to the Vietnames embassy on Wireless road hand it over with the fee. They will ask you if you want to pay extra to get it back the next day.We said no they then told us to come back the next day to pick it up anyway.Fast and easy, little to no wait both days.

  4. What Mario2008 has said is about correct for the USA also, but. When our daughter tried to leave the USA last time for a stay of 3 months in Thailand the airline said she needed a visa and would not let her board. That was with the USA passport. She then showed her Thai passport they let her board because she does not need a visa for Thai person.

  5. Her family members are all Thai and living in Thailand so the US laws really could not do much to them. She did give them the access and they were taking care of her until the accounts went empty.Even the money that we had collected thru the local Wat here they took for their own use and not for her.IncredableTakeing care of the kids is not a problem. The father can take care of them when he is not at work and they are out of school. He is self employed. He does not make a lot of money and is pretty restricted with what he can due to make money becuase of his education.Because she is a resident alien there are not really any programs in the US that she is eligable for.As to SSA or SIS she has not worked long enough to get dissabilaty thru SSA and she is not elligable for SSI disabilaty because she is a resident alien. She could collect off of her husbands but they can not own their own home or the truck that he needs for his work. They want him to be poor with nothing before she can collect anything.Really sad.I just can not find a way to help my friend.

This just makes me so much more thankfull for what I have.

  6. A friend of mine lives in the US.Every year his wife and kids go to Thailand for the summer, about 2 months. This past summer in Thailand (2009) she had a stroke. She has gotten well enough to travel, walk, talk, bath, feed herself and such. He has now brought her and the kids back to the US.He did not really think this through before he brought her back to the US.Now the problem. She can not care for the kids or herself. He does not have the money to pay someone to take care of her in the US.Very expensive. No insurance. The kids go to school during the work day,so not a problem. He has to stay in the US to make money.Does anyone know of a place that she could live in Thailand. What she needs is someone to watch her 24hours a day to make sure she eats, takes her meds and get her to the doctor once a week for her tests.Pretty much just a weekly blood test and maybe on occation an MRI.She cannot remember what she did 10 minutes before so she can not be left alone.

Her family members can not be trusted. They have proven that over the last 4 or 6 months. As they have drained all of the cash from her and his accounts that they gained access to.Being that his wife had a stroke they worked her over good for the access codes.

Any help and any ideas would be great. Also a cost of what it would be.

Thank you so much everyone in advance.

  7. Have the child in the US.Then apply through the Thai embassy for a Thai birth certificate. To do that you will first have to get the US birth certificate from your state. Then have that certificate certified by your Secretary of State from your state. Then that will have to be authinticated by the Secretary of State in Washington DC.At present that is Hillary Clinton. You will then send that authinticated birth certificate to the Thai embassy with the application ( that is written in Thai ).If you are a man and Thai then you have to fill out the application. If your wife is the Thai person then ethier one of you can fill it out.The Thai embassy will keep the one signed by Hillary Clinton. When you recieve the Thai birth certificate you can then now apply for a Thai passport for your child. Now that you will have to go to the Thai embassy ( not the Thai consulate in your city ) in person to apply for the passport. It is not as complicated as it sounds. You will not be able to get a Thai ID card for your child until they are 15 years old.It was 18 some time back but they lowered the age to 15.

It would be cheaper to have the kid born in a Thai hospital if you do not have insurance but..............................Up to you.Me, ours born in the US and happy we did.

Need to add this bit of info.To apply for the Thai passport you will need your passport to leave with the embassy.Better to get a copy and have it notorized, they will accept that instead of your passport. The Thai person also. They will mail the passport to you ,by Fedx when they get it back from Thailand. You see they have to mail the application with your passports to Thailand for proccesing.

  8. Rat out of the paddies are very tasty.I would never eat one from a road side stand though.Just have no idea where it came from or how it was killed, poison maybe? Not good.Same with crickets.I really enjoy them fried in oil with lime leaves. But will not buy them from the roadside.

Oh and dog is fantastic if you like meat.I had it in Vietnam. If you look at some of my past post I had posted some photos of cooked dog for sale in the meat market in Vietnam.

  9. This is the brand that we buy.As you can see the ingredients are coffee, corn and soya bean.We make a liter at a time then put it in to the ice box and use as needed.Place coffee in a cup heat in microwave add condensed milk to hot coffee, place ice in another cup ,pour hot coffee mix over ice and enjoy! :)
