Pretty much moving to Siem Reap, I am not currently in Bangkok.
i have caught the bus from there before

Is there anything much cheaper in Aranya or Bkk than in Siem Reap, or anything that is particularly
desired by ex patriates and locals in Cambodia, but not normally available there?
thanks

Looking at superrich's website and bangkok banks as well, it would seem that the foreign exchange cost would be just under half a percent, plus of course the travellers check 33 baht fee, so that would seem to be the answer to my question and I thank you.
It is actually for next time, this time it is only my own personal expenses for a few days, so happy to pay the 2 per cent fee at a siem reap bank. Other options include western union at about 4 per cent, carrying a lot of cash (but would not want to walk through Poipet immigration with too much, would not want to declare over $10,000 in cash ), I am not sure what a bank to bank transfer would cost but I guess that is something for me to look into.
So again, thank you.

Agree with the above post...............More info needed?
The reason is that I am going to Siem Reap, where they charge 2 per cent on travellers checks.
I would save a little going from US travellers checks (paying the 33 or 43 baht or whatever it is) and losing a little from dollars to baht and again from baht to dollars,
but perhaps there is a better cheaper or easier way in the big city, Bangkok.

I am starting with american express us dollar travellers checks and need us cash. Do I need to convert the travellers checks to baht, and then baht to us cash, or is there a better way of doing this?
thanks

Having just done this trip at the same time -- your friend will miss he last bus , by about an hour.
MY taxi was 280 on the meter, plus aot fee, plus highway toll, no traffic.
cheaper option would be shuttle bus to bus terminal (free), then bus to the city about 60 baht at 130 am , then a taxi.

The buses still operate albeit under a private operator now (Metro Bus I think). We used the 551 service back from the airport on Saturday. Ticket prices are still the same from what I can work out but although new Chinese made buses are used I did find the ride uncomfortable and noisy.
Does anyone know if any of these buses operate to anywhere in central bangkok around 1 am??? thank you

I am going to the Lumpini Park area.
Thanks for the info about the BMTA buses, that is what I wanted to know.
I guess I will take a taxi or try to get on an earlier flight.

I tried eating whole mangosteens but I could not keep them down.
I eat bai ba bo, a herb, supposed to be good for ones heart.
Wondering whether I should try noni juice or thai ginseng.
Any other suggestions?
Any ideas about a healthy fish, or other source of the right omegas?
thank you

the last buses leave before midnight, you can share taxi with somebody else
yes the last tourist airport bus leaves around midnight. I think you can take a free bus to a bus terminal a couple of kilometers away and then take another bus for about 50 baht or less -- does anyone know?
asked why not take a metered taxi above -- to save money, I have little luggage and extra time. How much would a taxi cost including airport surcharges, highway tolls, meter, tip?
thanks, question remains if there is in fact another way.

Hi, are there any minivans or regular buses from the bus station to anywhere in bangkok (prefer sathrorn/
Lumpini Park, but elsewhere (such as Victory monument, Hualonpon/Queen Sikrit convention center train station etc are acceptable options too))
-Does anyone have any suggestions.
I should have my luggage and all about 30 minutes after midnight.
thank you

I am hoping that someone can suggest an eye doctor (not an optometrist ) to me , preferably one with a private clinic (but hospital ok too) in patong or phuket town. hours, days of availability or phone number/address appreciated. thank you

anyone know the nutritional quality of black rice (i would guess sticky, my local market in sanglaburi has one black rice but no browns) - is it similar to brown as one would guess or isit not all that different and not worth the bother? I can buy cooked white or cooked white sticky at many places, with the black i will have to hire a cook. thanks

Gotten a little bit sick so I need to catch up on sleep.
I sleep during the day , work internet at night (prefer wifi but nearby cafe ok too).
Any ideas - bangkok, elsewhere in Thailand, neighbouring countries. Budget for room and internet between 200 and 2000 a day, can go higher if need be, because I had better get some sleep.
Thanks

My reflexologist (in the us, from shanghai) speaks limited english and will make a cassette for me in mandarin telling the thai reflexologist or accupuncturist what the secret to making me better is. Does anyone know a good mandarin speaking acc. or refl., preferably one who speaks a little english or thai as well, or for that matter any good accupuncturist or reflexologist anywhere in bangkok (silom/sathorn/chinatown best) or anywhere in Phuket? Organic restaurant or groceries in the same places also appreciated. thanks Andrew

If anyone can tell me, I would like to know if Mosquitos are often a problem in the areas bordering Burma in Kachanaburi in terms of dengue fever or malaria . If so what precautions are needed? While I would like to know for the whole calendar year, at this point March and early April are the dates of greatest to me. thanks

my experience with Tiger (sin-bkk october 07) and Air Asia (phuket-bkk, many times , other years & upcoming february 2008)
tiger was efficient, friendly, plane brand new, i ate my own food on the plane, cramped (I am tall), they gave me my choice of a great seat without service charge (i was first in line, no scrum to get aboard), on time. 7 kg for hand luggage is my biggest problem with all lcc because I have a lot of electronic and other valuable stuff, but it was not weighed.
air asia - usually very late, many flights cancelled without notification (I do not have a mobile in Asia, but I do have a landline/email), pointless scrum to board flights, clueless staff at check in, not very accomodating in getting me alternate transportation (due to their cancellations - they kept on saying we are a low cost airline - they seemed to think that that allowed them to cancel and then do nothing for me), on board service fine.
will likely go to singapore with valuair-jetstar? next time due to 20kg checked luggage allowance, better reviews online, main terminal in Singapore (Budget was just a fifteen minute inconvenience), etc, but Tiger was good too.
QUESTION for anyone - Flying air asia phuket-bangkok in February are they likely to weigh my slightly large-jetstar?ish hand luggage (total of laptop and other bag may be 10-12 kilos)????? If they do, will they possibly let me pay some money for overweight and take it aboard???????
thanks
ps sorry I put this post in the wrong thread, so some of it is not all that relevant

Sunshine Patong (just google Sunshine Patong for their website) has free lan connections in the room, free wifi in the lobby and a free public computer in the lobby for guests. They also have ubc in the lobby, cable in the rooms, and are brand new and well priced.

Thank you Farangsay, that probably would be of interest to me (imagine somewhat higher as petrol is up, but that would be ok), just a question: Patong immo is what or where?

any idea of a hospital that can help with gender selection of the child as well??
I am not looking for analysis of my semen for either fertility or of disease - my wife is currently pregnant (in Cambodia), just want to do this because I am really old already and hope to have a son as well.
