  1. The preference is not primarily cost, although I do not want to pay the full cost of a taxi to Malaysia - would have preferred to share a taxi with someone, but realize unlikely to find someone wanting to go the same day to Malaysia, as well as spend an extra couple of hours to go to Malaysia rather than Burma.

Since I have not found someone to share a taxi, my enquiry is simply:

Can someone recommend a visa run company that uses big buses rather than minibuses, and has pick up in Patong. Thank you.

  2. How do you know the money you pay for your fake viagra doesn't go to the Burmese governemt?

    Simon

Simon, the retailer and indian manufacturer presumably receive most of the very few baht that I will spend on kamagra. The 10$ us currency visa fee goes directly to the Burmese government.

If anyone can give me practical advise it would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Sorry to confuse you Simon, I have been to Malaysai (Padang Basar) and Ranong (Thai border town to access BUrma).

My preference in to go to Malaysia , if I can find people to share the cost of the taxi, as I do not want to give 10$ to the government of Myanmar.

I doubt that I will find people to share the taxi, in which case I would like to go with a visa run company to Ranong and then Myanmar, in that case I am looking for recommendations for a company that has big buses every day and stops in Myanmar for at least a few minutes.

  4. Preference is Malaysia (padang basar) same day Saturday January 20 for political reasons (if anoone interested in sharing a taxi please pm me, but doubt anyone will be)

SO BASICALLY LOOKING for a visa run company, from Patong, any recommendations.

Prefer BIG BUS instead of mini bus, and at least 10 minutes inburma for shopping (anyone know prices and brands of fake viagra ie kamagra , penagra).

    Thanks

    andrew

  5. wow. youre gonna be pushing it to find accommodation at this late stage. we are completely full for that period and i have been turning people away for some time now.

    good luck!

thai base camp in patong paradise complex is in that price range, but do not know about availability for xmas.

    i think

    -your price

    - xmas super peak and not far away

    - wanting wifi

2 out of 3 possible, doubt you will get all three

  6. Currently Paying 590 a box , for Focus Dailies opposite Tescos.

    Anyone found them cheaper?

Asking as seen on the Bkk forum some guys paying 400 there !

    Thx In Advance

No answer, but similar inquiry, looking for box (of 30) one day accuvue, prefer Phuket but Bangkok ok too, thanks

  7. On my way in soon with double entry , 60 days tourist a time. i had wanted to get a 30 day extension each time, do one visa run, for a period of 179 days , which meshed exactly with my ticket.

Does anyone know if thirty day extensions will be available to me, or do I need to do 3-4 visa runs instead of of one, and hope that the rules will allow me to get 30 days on the last two or three visa runs (reason why it is 4 is on each run you lose a day if you leave the country and come back in on the same day)? If extensions are no longer available, even to people with the previous generation 60 day visas,

....Is there anything that I can say to get a 90 day stay instead of the 60 stamped on the way in at the airport? (pls give me words, I am not too bright at the best of times, practically retarded after 24 hours on planes)?

or ..... alternatively is there anything that I can say at immigration suan phu bangkok to get them to somehow change 60 days to 90 days?

    thanks,

    ryan

incidentally Canada website still showing tourist visas as being 60 days a piece

  8. I may also be there long term - several years - if the place is available. As I am looking for just a room or two, and do not want to be in central patong, do not want pool, gym, view, hotel facilities, the cost could be quite modest.

As a daytrader, you won't have time for any other activities :o

I am not a daytrader. I do need the internet for work, not to call a broker.

  9. THANK YOU

For a place with the above already in place, what would you want to pay per month in rent ?

Bear in mind you are arriving just as high season starts !

I know that I will be there for all of high season from the owners point of view, but I will arrive before high season, perhaps by mid October so should be able to find a place. I may also be there long term - several years - if the place is available.

As I am looking for just a room or two, and do not want to be in central patong, do not want pool, gym, view, hotel facilities, the cost could be quite modest. If it is higher due to high quality or size I am able to pay more, just as long as it is fair.

A place with everything in place, or just the right kind of telephone line, so much the better. thank you.

  10. Hi, I would like to live in Patong in a room or two* from late October for 5 months or more and most important to me is that I have the fastest internet communication possible.

I guess I need a place with a phone line already - if not does it take more than a couple of days for installation - and DO I NEED TO BE NEAR THE TELEPHONE EXCHANGE for things to work quickly and consistently? What company do I deal with to get the fastest connection? I like to use more than one laptop at once if possible, either through LAN or wireless, I use the computer from 8 pm to 4 am weekdays.

Any practical advice as to how to make the arrangements, or if there is a place that already has the phone line and or the FASTEST most reliable internet greatly appreciated.

    *about the desired place:

    1. quiet between 4 am and noon so I can sleep, not next to a major construction site.

    2. One or two rooms, decent mattress, tv cable or full ubc (not sharing the thing with a whole complex so I do not get to choose the channel) preferred but not required, air conditioning (preferably billed seperately - I rarely use it), in room safe or ability to leave valuables in managers safe, no pool or recreational facilities as I do not use them.

    3. Preferred location if it is consistent with fastest internet is within a kilometer or two of family inn, patong palace,c and n resort,

    4. I might want the same setup for a friend as well.

    THANK YOU

  11. Hi I usually am scheduled to arrive just minutes after midnight, the plane usually arrives after midnight but sometimes lands minutes before, and I am usually face to face with the immigration officer after midnight. tHEY USUALLY WANT TO STAMP ME IN AS HAVING COME IN THE PREVIOUS CALendar day and whatever I try to say after 28 hours on an airplane does not convince them>

what should I say to get them to move their stamp to the current day?

Also, does bkk airport still allow one day overstay without a fine (if it makes any difference will be seeing them before midnigh twhen still no overstay, but plane takes off at the one day overstay point in the calendar)

    thanks

    retarded (slow) ryan

  12. Walk out of the terminal and across the car-park. They are located next to the exit.

There is a 100 baht surcharge on top of the meter fare.

And they are much cheaper than the limos and take you directly where you want to go.

If I was to get a limo home from the airport it costs me 400 baht, the meter taxi costs roughly 300 baht for the same trip

many taxis at the airport yesterday when I was there. About 100 meters outside the main terminal, easy to spot. Of course the bus is cheaper for those going to patong (150 baht) or Phuket town (about 50 baht), excellent service with the buses and taxis. Service on tuk tuks and pricing on

tuk tuks varies, so I avoid them unless I know the driver.

Taxi still cheaper than Bus in 2006? 300 baht to Patong?

    Thanks.

  13. Yeah sure

I stayed at Welcome Inn on RatUThit - highly recommended - wireless internet, cable, ubc, pool tables, room safe, ac, comfortable rooms, quiet, extremely well managed by Rob from London, and then at Mr Yong Bungalows, Karon Noi.

  14. By long term I mean 5 to 8 months, starting in October. I am in Patong until April 11, and it would be great if I could arrange for a place for next year, or at least view some places.

    I am looking for:

Location: No further North than Aroonson Square/Club Andaman area, Southern limit maybe half a mile past Safari. Nanai possible but not preferred. Not highrise, or at least not Condotel, Grand Montana, Phuket Palace.

Should have a phone line in the room so I can get the highest speed adsl possible.

    One or two rooms.

Not immediately next door to a major construction project, and hopefully quiet during the day.

A.C., preferably billed seperately, as I do not use it much. Prefer no pool. TV a small plus but definately not required. Security - in room safe and night time security guard are pluses. Around Laleewadee Boutique hotel would be ideal.

If anyone has any ideas , thanks. PM me, post , or [email protected]

  15. walking home at almost 5 am , near phuket palace, i was hit on the head by a 2 by 4. believe it was two katoeys who came up on a motorbike behind me, tried to steal my backpack which had a couple of laptops in it, it is my usual time and route to walk home. they did not get the laptops, but did creat a lot of blood, twenty stitches. many thai people stopped to help me, police were helpful, hospital soso would be my assessment. so warning to others, be careful at night.

Hope you're feeling better now but can I ask why you're walking around at 5am with 2 laptops?

Sure. I work at night to keep to a schedule from my home country. I did not have internet access where I was staying, so I usually take a motorbike taxi to Patong, finish up around 4 am or a little later, and enjoy the walk home to unwind, as a transition before sleep. That is in the past, fortunately I am doing ok, heading home soon, and next year will arrange for internet in my room wherever I stay.

  16. Ranong is the destination of choice. Four hours there and four back approx. I did one with hubby and eldest child last weekend. We drove our own car, did the visa, had a nice lunch in Ranong and visited the hotsprings. Very laid back. Don't rush Ranong. It is quite a cool place.

if all you need to do is leave the country, options include

airasia to singapore or kuala lumpur, schedule requires an overnight, currently practically free for the tickets as airasia has a sale, but taxes and surcharges sure add up. airasia will not bother to let you know when they change their schedule on a flight that you have a reservation, nor will they be on time, nor will they care if your experience is anything like mine.

visarun companies, about 3, about 1500 baht roundtrip to ranong, incl visa fee, and boat etc. slightly cheaper if you do it yourself by bus, but then will require an overnight. i do not personally go to burma because of politics.

slightly cheaper to malaysia by bus via hadyai, but including waiting will be 24 hour bus trip.

  17. Hmmm katoeys are on a roll last few weeks. :o Did you seen them or any witnesses see them?

my vision was kiind of limited for a few minutes. barely saw anything, remember seeing an arm and a couple of legs, believe there were two, believe they were asian, believe they were katoeys but would not swear to any of that. passerbys thai came quickly and were numerous and extremely helpful and kind, but no witnesses, fingerprints on the two by four i would imagine, for whatever it is worth.

  19. Hi Bigman, I moved it here as all these lads are top draw, good luck with the build.

I am in the same situation, but a specific area of questions:

I want to buy land that is not on the market. I am willing to pay above market rates for it, but do not want to pay double. Can anyone recommend an agent who will REPRESENT MY interests, and not his own - advise me on valuation, negociate with the owner etc. Thai nationality agent in thai firm would be preferred, but integrity is the key element. Thanks, Ryan
