  1. If you send money via SWIFT you have two options. You either send the money in your home currency or you will let you bank do the exchange and they send Thai Baht.

So far I found that the Thaibank always gives me a better rate. Mastercards rate (https://www.mastercard.com/global/currencyconversion/) for the 30/10/2014 was 40.547783 Baht for a Euro. This would be the rate applicable if the payment was finally settled into your account on 30/10/2014 (it does not mean that you have used the ATM on the same date) and it does not include any fees from your bank.

Lets say you had transferred 2 days before money to a Bangkok bank account. And it had been received same day (30/10/2014 in the morning but after 8.30) in you account. Bangkok bank (http://www.bangkokbank.com/bangkokbank/webservices/rates/pages/fx_rates.aspx) would have given you a rate of 40.83500 per Euro. Excluding any fees from Bangkok Bank.

You might now think that you do not know how long a SWIFT transfer takes and also what exchange rate you will have as this is in the future. So far correct. But as explained before.

If you use your mastercard today:

    1. you do not know todays mastercard rate.

    2. most importantly today will not be the settlement in your account. Yes funds might have been reserved. But is it only settled in you account once it is completely posted.

In the above link Mastercard states:

The settlement date is therefore typically different from the date of the actual transaction. MasterCard does not provide the exchange rate when purchases are converted from the local currency by the merchant to the cardholder's currency at the point of sale.

  2. The card rate will be applied on the day of settlement in your account. This can and usually is not the day that you do the transaction. Another point: your bank might apply either a fix fee for the FX transaction or a spread in percentage for the exchange rate published by mastercard. You need to check the terms of use of your bank account and the published fees by your bank.

To give you an example: http://www.ulsterbank.ie/documents/roi/Guide_to_Personal_Account_Fees_and_Interest.pdf are the published fees by my bank. Scroll down to page 24. If i use my card in a bank or exchange that displays the visa logo there is no additional charge. for use at an ATM i pay 3%. minimum 3 euros and maximum of 12 euros. Therefore I use the card inside a bank or at one of the exchange booths and save the money. I assume they give the discount as you will have to use a form of identify within these offices.

  3. If the importance here for you is the arrival time, then I suggest an over night bus to Mukdahan. There is at least a bus going from Rayong to Pattaya and chonburi and then onwards Mukadahan.

    http://www.iloveyellowbus.com/en/roots.html

This bus is scheduled to arrive in Mukadahan at 7.30 AM. If you then take a tuk tuk to the border you will have ample time to catch the first bus going across the bridge. I suggest you take one one tuk tuks in Laos as well. As the bus is only going to the market and then you would have to switch anyway.

At least this is my experience.

IIRC there is also night bus from BKK to Mukdahan. But I wouldnt swear on it that it exists. Research is your friend on this.

  4. I believe it's because most people (including pilots) are righthanded, so it's easier to reach and use the controls.

    I might be wrong though.

Do you know why it's called the cockpit ?

    Yermanee wai.gif

But in an Airbus the captain's side-stick is in his left hand, perhaps all captains need to be left handed (we're more intelligent don't ya know).

    1024px-Airbus_A380_cockpit.jpg

    Which one's the e-book reader??

The one in front of the keyboard. In an A380 zou can even select the exit from a runway on the airport map and the plane will automatically apply brakes after touchdown. so that you will have correct speed to leave the runway at that point.

Also it normally goes: 2nd office < senior officer < captain < check captain.

It does not matter what rang all pilots on board have (can be more than two or three if it is training). There is always only one guy assigned as captain in charge. that is the guy that signs all the papers. and it is the guy that sits on the left.

If you closely all important switches are on the right. thrust leaver, gear switch. flaps and air brakes. engine switches as well as fire extinguisher and communications.

on a regular flight on a commercial airline take-off and landing will shared between the pilots. as all pilots need a certain amount of those to either qualify for a position on a certain plane type, or to keep their qualification. normally higher rang can decide but at Lufthansa it is a team decision, especially on the long haul flights were 3 pilots are on board.

on the picture above i assume that the guy on the right hand side did the landing as he has the primary flight display on one of his MFDs and the airport map on the MFD to the right.

left seat pilot has only on board cameras switched on.

  5. Your link is from 2013.

Latest report from AirAsia website, bolding by me:

"TAA posted revenue of THB5.46 billion in 2Q14, up 2% from the same period last year. This

quarter saw an operating loss THB464.91 million which led to a 164% decrease in profit after
tax at THB317.61. AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes commenting on regional affiliates,
“Our decline in operating profit was due to the lower revenue as average fare declined by
14% y-o-y mainly due to drop in passenger travel caused by the political situaiton,
depreciation cost of taking aircraft into our own balance sheet and spending on public
relations and marketing as the political demonstration in Bangkok continues into the second
quarter of this year. With the political demonstration, TAA still continues to record a solid
    78% load factor."

  6. Most unlikely that thy will switch of GSM nationwide. It might be done in areas like BKK. Pattaya and other places with high people density. But not in most on Thailand.

The old TDMA GSM networks have a much wider footprint per basis station than the WCDMA UMTS networks will have. So you need less of them to serve the same area. And they are already built.

  7. So you booked your ticket using an OTA and now blame Swiss for it?

That is exactly the reason why frequent flyer prefer to book directly with the airline or an highly experienced OTA. Because if you don't you will be lost and in the hands of the travel agent.

The travel agent has received a discount on the ticket price because he is now in charge of customer service and not Swiss.

Blame the travel agent and not Swiss. Or better blame yourself for booking a heavily discounted ticket using a ticket agent before before the visa was issued. If you need a ticket for visa application eat up on the price an book a changeable ticket. /problem solved

  8. Must always call in that center your flight starts in this case Bangkok!

The international price pressure is very strong!

Also when the tax of Zurich airport is one of the highest in the world , I hope not same dilemma happens like with Thai that customers go away coz of higher price! Even in Zurich thai woman was also working at counter for Thai!

But it's cheaper for them to get locals work, its something names economy optimization , how to save coasts, to maximeize the profit, no matter who do the job, it only must be cheap at end of the bill calculation !

I can't find a thing on the Swiss website that says you have to call the station were your flight origins. https://www.swiss.com/ch/EN/customer-support/service-center

I have flown with some airlines during the years and I always prefer to call the German station (if available) to sort my questions out.

And that Thai has Thai speaking staff on outstation is more likely due to language barriers, I would assume.

As you already had at least a full day to contact Swiss in Bangkok I would like to know what you have accomplished so far. So I can judge if this is just a troll post or a post really looking for help on the matter.

  9. Why don't you call for god's sake the main office and ticketing center in Switzerland? I am pretty sure they will able to help you as well and you can speak with them in your native language.

Bangkok is an outstation for Swiss and you will be lucky if the station manager is from Switzerland or does speak your native language.

True, but airlines like Swiss should really do more for their customers than take the cheap route by employing only locals that can't speak any of the national languages of the airline's home country rather than employing at least one Swiss manager. THAI certainly have Thai staff in Switzerland, so Swiss should reciprocate by having Swiss staff stationed in Thailand.

Thats easier said as to be done for Switzerland which recongnizes German, French, Rätoromanisch and Italian as their respective national language. you can always deal with the agents in English and in case of language barrier or difficult problem the station manager will help. For for day-to-day problems like changing the flight you can always deal with Swiss directly via phone.

  11. CEO Nadda Buranasiri, if you read this or TV forums at all, my question is, when will you

start frying direct from DM to Australia? it was on the card last year to start this mid year

but no more news about it now....

Great idea, as it would save the hassle of KUL which is grossly over-crowded. AirAsia and Malay Airports can't agree when the new terminal will be used.

Fly-through flights DM to OZ would be great. I just did one Gold Coast-KUL-CNX.

Of course I'd rather FLY than FRY! smile.png

    They have agreed.

    KLIA2 opens 27.04.2014

    AirAsia moves 09.05.2014

You can find the information at TheStar Online website.

  12. I would guess that 90% (if not more) OOKLA based speedtests, initiated from Thailand, had been cheated by our honest ISP's.

It's not just caching, but connections to well known OOKLA servers are NOT throttled in any way!

You can check this by manually downloading the test files from OOKLA servers around the world, without using their flash based software.

They do this, because even the greatest noob realizes nowadays (or should), that a ping of 30 ms to Europe is faster than light....tongue.png

So, who wonders about that result...

The speed of light is roughly 300.000.000 meter per second.Or 300.000 km per second. Very roughly calculated you will get 100.000 km in 33 ms. Just once around the world is, very roughly again, 40.000 km.

Therefore the time given by you would enable the light to around the world a bit more than 2 times.

In fibre optics the speed of light is ~ 1.5 slower. Please do your own calculation now.

  13. Thankyou all for your attention.

Im going to start last first with Forgetit as that seems the simplest.

    Why so complicated?

    Use search and replace.

    Replace two spaces with nothing.

Now you only go after each word and press enter. You have your answers in a new row and can use the bullet formatting. I have done your example page in less than 30 seconds. No need for macro for this.

    Forgetit

I have looked through all the buttons for search and replace and can't see it.

I clicked help and typed search and replace………0 hits.

Can you tell me the secret?

    Thanks!

    WAIT

6 hits just came up almost didn't notice.

OK I have Find and Replace box left side.

Where do I look for "two spaces" I can't find that option named

    Thanks!

You don't need an option to search for two spaces. Just click into the search field and press the space bar two times. If you want to replace by nothing just leave the replace field empty.

And don't forget you can navigate to the next empty field/character by holding control and then press the arrow key of the desired direction

  14. If you do get a card, be careful getting one with the embded chip. We just got one and have been traveling around S.Thailand. Few machines accept these cards. We had to use my US card several times till we coild find an acceptable machine.

This is more a problem of the Issuing bank requiring Pin&Chip for the transaction.

I never had any problems using my Pin&Chip card in ATM`s in Thailand, the Philippines or Malaysia.

As far as I have understood if an online connection is available the issuing bank everytime requests the required form of authorization. This can vary from Pin&Chip to just the swipe of the card. this is done by evaluating possible fraud and will take pretty much everything into account: Amount, type of merchant (shop, atm, online shop, etc. pp.), your using behaviour (A sudden request to buy a scooter for 100.000 Baht in Thailand is odd when you normally only pick-up 20 euros per week in Europe.). And pretty much everything else they know.

  15. It is not only when you are out of coverage but also if the reception from TOT is worse than another carrier you can roam with.

Most of the phones have an option to deny data roaming. On Android phones you would have to enable data roaming, as a standard it is switched off. On Android 4.4.2 it is under settings -> more -> mobile networks -> data roaming. Make sure that this is not selected.

  16. Whenever I was entering Cambodia I was asked what my destination would be. I told them that I was just going down the road to the shops They told me same day return would be 300 Baht when leaving Cambodia and I would agree. Before going back to the border I would put 100 Baht in my passport and hand it over to the Cambodian immigration. Never been asked to pay the additional 200 Baht.
