  1. Is the number on a boundary marker supposed to be the same as the number on the title deed plan, or are they two completely different numbering systems?

On my property, I have been able to locate some of the concrete boundary markers but none of these markers have the same numbers as any of the points on the title deed.

For example, the north east corner where the property borders a road and the neighbors fence:

    boundary marker

    2ญ

    8155

    title deed

    7001

  2. Depends on what type of block you want .. maybe go away for a few hours. Write down what you really want. Have a quick Google for sizes etc then come back.. example .. qcon or superblock for the walls or plain concrete blocks!

I'm considering solid concrete walls (cast in place), not concrete blocks or bricks.

  3. If it's just for the look, couldn't you achieve the same effect by staining the plaster and boarding it so it looks like that!

Maybe, but what is the price difference compared to a brick wall? Double? Triple?

What would be the minimum thickness for a non-weight bearing concrete wall?

How is the price normally calculated for concrete walls? By cubic meter?

  4. Thanks for that additional information. Very interesting. I planted mine in a pot and was watering every day, so I will reduce that to once a week as you suggest.

กวักมรกต Kwak as in Nang Kwak, Morakot as in Emerald colour. This plant has glossy leaves.

I have 5 pots of this plant. We Chinese believed it to be fortune plant. I brought 9 leaves from my mom's garden in Malaysia in 2007, she told me to plant them in pot and wait for 8-months. The believes is that if the plant sprout meaning good luck, but if not then just let it be and continue with what ever you are doing with your life.

    5 survive and 4 died.

Planting method she taught me was to get a medium pot with soil and compost premix, bury half the leaf upright with leaf stalk downward and wait. It take times to grow a root the size of an egg yolk, while the single leaf will wither and decay. The 7-8 month, if you are lucky... New leaves on a single stem will sprout. Too much water will rot its root during that period, once every 6-7 days will do...make sure pot have drainage holes. Genting Highland Casino in Malaysia has some of the biggest and most beautiful ones I have ever seen in their reception lobby and the cleaning workers wipe every leaf off dust with damp cloth so that the leaves retain their original gloss. My plants leaves are dusty because they are place outdoor. It is an indoor plant require little sunlight little water.

    Celebrate !

  5. Thanks for the feedback from everyone.

    FYI, his other degrees:

BS in Agriculture from Gregorio Araneta University Foundation, Philippines

MBA (Politics) from Araneta University Extension, Philippines

I'm going to try contacting the above to see if they have any records.

  6. I was looking at the CV of a Thai man and it says he has an honourary doctorate from the American League of Colleges and Universities. A quick google reveals no such organization. Has anyone heard of ALOCU or is it a diploma mill or just a plain deception?

  7. My misses says it is ปอกะสา or Paul Stork or Paul Cotton, broussonetia papyrifere

That's it! Confirmed by a friend of my as well, who says it's also just called ปอสา (por-saa). English common name Paper Mulberry and belongs to the same family as the mulberry fruit. Good source of fiber for papermaking, clothing, rope (from the roots), and leaves are edible after cooking. Native to Thailand. Good pioneer species.

I guess from the name that this is the plant used for producing Saa Paper (กระดาษสา).

  8. Looks very much a plant that Jimmy photographed in my garden which has a pink flower. However despite the almost identical leaf shape, my plant does not have serrated edge to leaves.

I wondered that too Old sailor! but I don't think same ! I did wonder about that too! Here is a pic of OS's plant!

There is a thread going in Chaing Mai forum, which I think fits this... a type of Ginseng.... but I am not sure! wink.png

It's definitely not the plant in this photo.

  9. It is one of the first plants to grow when you clear a piece of land, especially in the city, and it grows everywhere, even in gaps in concrete roads and walls and becomes a tree around 5m high. The stems and leaves are hairy. The wood is light. It readily shoots after you cut it down to a stump.

Anyone know the Thai name or botanical name?

  10. I think some of you guys are correct when saying women think it is so ugly it is cute. I don't think a guy would think that way. I personally think it is one of the ugliest cars on the road. My neighbor bought one and she said she bought it because it was, "different looking". I tried to sit in it and I could not fit comfortably, I am 6'3". She took me for a ride.....gutless, 1.6 liter engine with 116hp.

My 2014 Mazda 3 has a 2 liter, 155hp engine and gets better gas mileage. Also someone earlier said one of the reasons he like the Juke as it had bigger wheels than the Mazda 3. Well my Mazda 3 came stock with 18 inch wheels and I don't think you can get 19 inch wheels stock for the Juke.

juke 17in rims, total wheel height 66.83cm

maxda 3 18in rims, total wheel height 65.07cm

  11. My wife has had a Duke since February and I have to say that I love it and steal it whenever i can and imagine i'm driving a porsche 911. Originally we were going to get a BMW X1 but were disappointed after the test drive and by low resale vales and decided on the Juke. The marketing seems to be aimed at young people, but i've seen more middle-ager (like us) driving it.

What I like about the Juke:

    - distinctive looks (you love it or hate it). turns heads wherever you go

    - has huge wheels, taller than mazda 3, ford ecosport and many pickups. great for potholes and speed bumps

    - you sit higher than most other small cars, vios, jazz, etc. driver's seat can be raises 6cm so that your bum is a total of 60cm off the road for a nice high driving position.

    - fun to drive. very fast acceleration cos no gears (cvt)

    - has six headlights! 2 on the hood, 2 on the grill and 2 fog lights

    - has a removable android tablet with wifi and bluetooth in the console which accepts usb, micro sd cards, and audio in. connects to cellphone for 3g, gps and handsfree calling.

    - has reversing camera

    - back seats fold down

    - mirrors can be set to fold automatically

    - ceiling has insulation and back and side windows are small so keeps the heat out

    - keyless entry and start

    - E20 fuel

    What I don't like:

    - poor fuel economy. city driving 12.5km/L. there are three settings: power/normal/eco. i haven't tried eco yet.

    - passengers can't play videos/play games/view photos unless the car is parked or the tablet is removed from its dock

    - space-saver spare wheel max. speed 80km/hr

    - not much headroom in the back seats. okay for kids and the average thai, but not the average farang.

    - doors don't lock automatically after you start the engine (previous car would lock the doors after 1 minute)

Overall it feels like a sportscar - fast, fun, but not very practical. Someone above put it in the same category as a mini or beetle and i'd agree with that.

By the way, juke has a heater! rare in thai vehicles due to obvious reasons, but may get some use if you live in the north.
