  1. I'll Look into the clay idea, that may be the ticket

what about doing it my way? :)

I was looking for a more natural look (and cheap) but after mine caves in i might be back for more pictures Naam!

  2. I'm not a farmer or a pond expert but maybe I can offer some suggestions that worked for me in a similar sandy soil.

Your pond is plenty deep enough but methinks the sides are too steep and will soon fall in.

Can you not dig it bigger and and slope it less? I would say make it as BIG as you can.

We have a creeping weed that covers the bank and prevents erosion when the water drops, it has a broad small leaf with yellow flowers,I have no idea what they are but they grow at the side of roads.

Our pond is simply sand with no lining but we do have water running in all the time which keeps the level up, do you have something like that? If not it's soon going to drop. Even so ours has dropped at this time maybe one meter.

I believe that our pond did line itself from the house pad clay that washed down the plot into the pond, this keeps it fairly waterproof. The pond took maybe 6 months to clear properly from the clay that washed down.

In hindsight I would have lined the pond with clay or stones cemented on the sides, this keeps the sides falling in and keeps the water in.

A couple of pictures, before and after.

    Very nice pond Rimmer!

We went so deep on our to hit ground water hoping that will keep it in water year round (Day # 2 and there is about 2 meters of water in the bottom already). At this point it looks more like an open pit mine, but hopefully we can get it figured out. I am worried about the steep sides too but if we slope it properly it will take up our entire back yard, which I might end up doing if it starts to errode badly this summer.I am definely going to have to line it, just not sure with hat yet. Thanks for the advice.

  3. I'll Look into the clay idea, that may be the ticket

From looking at the pics, it seems the edge of the pond is higher than the surrounding land. In order to collect rainwater, you'd want the surrounding land to slope down and drain into the pond.

There are some threads in the farming forum on sealing pond walls with clay. To further stabilize the pond's slope, vetiver grass would probably work well.

  4. We did some dirt work on our land recently and as we had the excavator (Macro) there already we decided to dig a pond, on the spur of the moment. They dug it pretty deep to reach ground water in hopes that it will remain somewhat full all year long. Now that it is dug I am not sure what i need to do to insure that becomes a nice pond and not a tepid cess pool. IT is pretty deep like I said, about 6 meters or more deep and about 30 meters acrossed. It is dug in soft sandy dirt so I will need to stabilize the banks first off. I read in a different post suggesting the use of netting the growing grass on top of that to keep the banks from caving in. Would you recommend this and where would i find said netting in the Pattaya Rayong Area? I will attach a few pictures and welcome any and all advise on the do's and don't from here on.

I was also considering putting a bunch of large rocks, boulders etc in the bottom to keep the fresh water souce from getting cut off from fill dirt, does this sound correct to you guys?

  5. Can anyone recommend a good fishing charter boat that has reasonable sucess in the Pattaya to Rayong area? I am especially interested in Fishing for Dorodo (dolphin Fish). Any info would be appreciated. What has you sucess been fishing for these around this area? Also what is the cost and what is included?

  6. I am in need of a good chiropractor, I have tried massage from many different places but what i need is a good old fashioned bone cracker. Does anyone know of one in the area i could look up? I know there are some available in BKK but it seems like nearly impossible to find on the eastern seaboard.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

  7. I went to Health Land, on North Pattaya Road, a few weeks ago. Man, that was deep tissue. It was fantastic. I am not much of a massage person, as they usually are pretty lousy. But this one was great. I was pretty impressed.

That is the problem with Healthland and everywhere else in LOS i have been for massage, it is really hit or miss if you get a good one and I have gotten sick of getting bad ones. When I have had a good one they are really relaxing and make me feel much better.

  8. Soak a steak in antifreeze and throw it over the fence.

He is a man not a soi dog he just sounds like a dog with his duals in a steel bear trap...but i will give it a try anyway, can't hurt to try as long as i don't use my good T bone steak.

  9. When he plays blast out the strangest Frank Zappa tunes you can find from your music sytem at twice the volume. Don't know whether that would have any effect, but it would be interesting. If Zappa doesn't do anything, try classical music. Or Polka. Or Mariachi. Or as a last resort, an endless loop of ELVIRA. Keep changing the music style until you get some kind of reaction. I suppose a measure of success would be if he comes over and complains about YOUR noise.
    So I'm singin'

    Elvira, Elvira

    My heart's on fire Elvira

Giddy Up Oom Poppa Omm Poppa Mow Mow

Giddy Up Oom Poppa Omm Poppa Mow Mow

    Heigh-ho Silver, away

Hey you said BEAT THIS for annoying. How'd I do?

Yeah thanks for that now i have that going through my TOO!! omm poppa omm poppa mow mow.....hey you just gave me an idea i need to get mow makma

  10. You could buy him some headphones for the amp.

If he sings this could actually be worse :)

Oh yeah I forgot the most important part....he sings, well you can't call it singing but utterly nerve wracking noise. I could live with the bad guitar playing!

  11. So there is a mildly retarded guy who lives with his grandmother (maybe mother) in the house a crossed the street from us in our moo ban.

Someone was kind enough to buy him an electric guitar, microphone and amp. So guess what i get too listen to 3-5 times per day for at least 1/2 hour each time and very loud too i might add?

You got it elmo sings the blues and the greens and every thing in between (except anything worth listening too). It is more of a mix between a cat caught in a lawn mower and a dying coyote.

Of course it seems to bother only me, no one else wants to get involved or cause problems. I have had all i can take. Any ideas of how to politically end the ear rape i am forced to endure?

    :)

  12. While you've got the filter out, use an aerosol disinfecting spray - something like Lysol, which I've never seen in Issan. Spray on the filter, into the a/c's air intake, and also the exhaust vents in the cabin - where the cold air comes out when you're driving. sorry for the post being slightly disjointed :-(

I'll give that a try and see if it helps.

The big question for me is why it is happening and what I can do or not do as the case may be to prevent it from happening again

I have had this happen twice on two different vehicles and a mate had it happen continuously on his pick-up. In all occasions it was small mice that had eaten or managed to get into the ducting and then died. When i took my fortuner to toyota, they knew exactly what the problem would be and told us that they get many vehicles a month through the workshop to repair and or clean the system. We live in the sticks so would expect it to happen more but i know of guys who live in the citys who have had the same problem. Unless you can fully cover the car, i can't really advise a way to prevent it, other than leaving traps near your vehicle whilst its parked at home!

I will have it taken in and looked at since i can't make heads or tails out of where the AC filter is located. It doesn't seem like dead animal smell just moldy smell that a house AC gets once in a while or more like hotel AC that i have stayed at that have a sour / moldy smell. If it was a small animal the smell would dissipate over time but on my last car it never did go away. I will take it in and have the shop look at it.

Thanks for the replies and anyone with more info please let me know.

  13. I am looking for a place for my wife also in Pattaya or surrounding area. I am curious what others have paid (total cost) and is it normally an all inclusive price or an initial price then charge for each visit.

Is there any suggestions of what to look out for or avoid? I know inviseline was suggested to me before but it seems to be much more expensive.

  14. 200 baht is the official fine for speeding 160 kmh on highway, I have saved 3 of them. Asking bribes are anything from 500 down in my experience, but large official speed checks with 15-20 officers on duty is official fine 200 baht with fine clercks in place. Smooth.

Do approx 50k km on highway a year, and if there is an official speedcheck, I pay my 200 baht and has carte blanche to keep the speed up rest of the day.

Last crash test with Euro pickups I read was in a euro newspaper june 2009. DMax is a disaster, passanger compartment and roof collapsing, frame bendt. Ranger stronger frame and body, but to high HIC and handbrake issue at very low speed. Navara ok after airbagsoftware upgrade, Mitsu ok, Vigo ok with 2 aibags.

To the poster saying only Everest has 2 front airbags, read up. Izu, Mitsu and Toyota is on par.

BTW airbags can only partly compensate for an old frame and old body without proper deformation zones, or as with Dmax a too soft passanger compartment/frame.

I Did not mean to say Everest is the only SUV in Thailand with front air bags but it is the only one with side air bags

  16. I dont have knee issues, but Euro NPCAP does have in crash tests with Rangers which is the same base vehicle and same dash/handbrake.

Driving 160kmh on highway is not considered "reckless" by thai law, its a very minor offense at 200 baht

I can only find a Euro NCAP test for the 2008 Ranger, nothing is mentioned of the Handbrake positioning.

    http://www.euroncap.com/tests/ford_ranger_2008/342.aspx

Do you have anything newer perhaps ??

As for the Thai law in regards to speeding... is that an official speeding ticket for 200b or is that the 200b you bribe the policeman with ??

Do you have the Euro NCAP for the Toyota Vigo (Hilux) Same base vehicle as the fortuner, I cant seem to find it, has there been one done ??

Yeah I am going to have to call BS on the hand brake being a safety hazard as it is recessed, Also the Everest has side impact beams as well as side airbags :) and dual front airbags, which the other brands do not offer.

I'm not interested in any airbags at all, because in Europe (maybe in Thailand later) it's a common issue that tiefs broke in your car to steal the air bags. Lot of hassles, damages and timewasting until your car is back on the road. So beter NO air bags at all

I thought we were just discussing safety, personally I wouldn't own a car with out airbags for safety. My car also has a stereo which thieves tend to steal, and wheels which they will steal if given a chance. You might be better off taking the bus.

  18. Stop smoking in the vehicle or make sure you have the air setting turned to fresh instead of recirculate if you are smoking in the vehicle.

(Assuming you smoke - as we always had that problem when I used to smoke in the car.)

Thanks for the advise but have never smoked in the car. I thought keeping the switch on recirculate instead of fresh may be the reason but my all knowing wife says none of her friends use fresh air and their cars don't have this problem.

  19. I bought the Everest 4x4 3.0 a few months ago and have been very happy with it. The 3.0L engine has plenty of power and is very peppy. It's interior is much nicer than both the Fortuner and MU7 and also has much more usable space than either with the combination of ways the seats fold down. Leg room is definitely not a problem, even in the third row there is enough room for a smaller adult. As far as the frame and suspension goes it is made to be capable on AND off road. On the highway it rides smooth and quiet off road I have been impressed as well. Calling it a dinosaur is fine if you have the sheep mentality to buy a fortuner because everyone else is driving one. Granted Toyota makes a quality vehicle but there are way too many of them on the road for me. Before you buy, arrange to test drive them both and see how they compare.

    Edit

Last point is the parking brake under the steering wheel which is actually a good idea. It may not be a new design but i have never understood why it needs to take up space in between the seats when it is only used to park. Unless of course you are planning on doing some Tokyo Drift sliding around corners in the local parking garage it is not needed during normal driving. Why not put it out of the way under the steering wheel? I honestly can't believe anyone woulds actually complain about this!

  20. We bought a new vehicle a few months ago and already get a sour smell from the AC especially on start up. The last truck we had developed this same problem but over a longer time frame, more like 1 year instead of 2 months. The wife claims that every other car she has been in doesn't have this problem.

Does anyone else have this issue with the aircon and how do you stop it from happening?
