the expat snobs will be ok at the
le meridieenn
as the local natives cant afford
Nonsense.
Very few snobs left among the expats.
Thais are the ones who are flourishing nowadays.
It's the farangs who are pinching pennies and looking seedy.
that's the way i see things as well. the economy has soared over the last 10 years in Thailand. the tables have turned.

Behind that condo must be the new Singapore International School going up. Pretty bad location for a school regarding traffic.
did they demolish the Chinese school? i'm surprised.

doesn't add up. devoted father comes often to visit his daughter. ends up dead with a dirty gay transvestite in a shit room when he normally stays in a nice resort? takes weeks for the story to come out. nah, somethings not right.

Cancer treatment in Thailand for those going to private hospitals can cost several million baht, and chemo doesnt get much cheaper at government hospitals such as Shripat. My Thai landlord said she had a Thai friend who died of cancer and spent his last 20-30 days in Bumrungrad. They were asking something around 30,000 baht per day, just for hospice type care.
I know several Thai citizens with cancer, first class service from the government hospitals in CM at no charge.
I would suggest your Thai landlord is doing the usual Thai bragging about how much money he can afford to waste on unnecessary private treatment.
The only high hospital prices in Thailand are for fleecing foreigners.
If I were to have potentially life threatening hospital treatment, I would want to have it on a country where doctors couldn't buy their way through medical school.
Lie.
Cancer treatments cost a lot of money, even in government hospitals.
Comments like this are very irresponsible. My wife's best friend dies at the age of 29 because she could not afford it and had to resort to scummy "holistic" treatments.
"BritManToo" or whatever username he's using this week is full of B.S. who knows "several cancer patients"? and....government hospitals do not provide cancer treatment for free to Thai citizens. treatment even in government hospitals is VERY expensive. that is why cancer insurance is such a popular policy in Thailand. it can only be purchased before age 50.

A door man at a CM hotel getting 30K + per month, plus food ,find that very hard to believeThey seem rather low. Wifes cousin is a door man at the Shangri-La hotel and is on over 30K per month, and gets to eat all meals there. This is for greeting people as they walk into the hotel. So how can an IT manager with a large hotel group be on 10K? I don't believe it.the reason he makes 30K per month is because of the 10% service charge that is shared among the employees. hotels like Shangri La and Anantara Resort are 5 Star resorts with an average of 20K Baht per month paid to each employee after their salary; often more. then there are tips.... the 10% service charge is why the jobs are in demand - not for the salary. most of the employees at these 5 star resorts earn 30K + per month. same in Phuket, etc.
Interesting. Does that always happen?
at 5 Star hotels like Anantara, Shangri La, Le Meridien, etc. the monthly split of the 10% service charge is often double or more the actual salary. with tips, etc. the "salary" may account for only 25% of the actual take home pay. so the salary could be 10-12K, the 10% service charge 20-22K, and tips 5K. then there are the perks like free rooms (which can be sold), food, etc. 4 Star hotels the 10% split may be 8-12K, 3 Star even less.... the jobs are highly in demand.

And pickup trucks have rear seat belts standard.
NO
Yes they do. But of course babies don't use them. I've never seen a Thai use a baby seat - only farang drivers. And also there is no law that states rear passengers must use a seat belt.
many do, but not enough of them use them.

can't you use wifi??? then you don't even need the cards.

Hospital administrator (with degree) 15k
Accountant (with degree) 15k
Bank Home Loan administrator 14k
Office manager Nimmanhamen (with degree) 15k
School Teacher (with degree and 10 years experience) 16k
IT manager with large hotel group (you all know the name) 10k
Popular cook at local food court (zero education) 35k (100-150 orders a night at 30-40bht)
Roadside somtan stall (zero education) 4k
In CM it's really hard to beat that 15k limit, senior management or self employed with a particular skill.
I also know some similar employee's in BK (with degrees) and they are on around 25k.

What's a 'SF Senior Card'? Who gets one, how, cost, benefits, etc?
It's from the cinema at Promenada mall and you pay 60 baht and get to see every movie for 60 baht for the year. It's good at all SF and SFX cinemas.
mine cots 99 Baht and every movie is either 80 or 99 Baht. i think Wednesday is 80 Baht. i've renewed it 3 years now. always same price. how strange...

Yes, I know T.I.T. and anything goes.
There's obviously a reason why it's not off the shelf in other countries,
TRAM is sold in other countries? I guess I didn't have a reason to use or ask for it when I was outside of Thailand.
the point is you really should avoid using any type of steroid unless absolutely necessary. try Calamine lotion. much safer for your health.

i get those same bites on the ankles every year this time, although not as many. doesn't bother me or itch at all. i just assumed they were mosquito bites.

3 hospitals to be avoided...central C.M. Memorial, Chang Phuek Hosp., and Ruam Phaet Hospital. get to a vet clinic before you go to #3
I spent 6 days ( I think that's what it was) in Suan Dok in January for about one third the price of Ram. Could easily have been less than one third depending on how Ram itemizes and their markup.
sure, but the 3 above are not Suan Dok...... not anything like it.

Wow, I put together the pinned list of doctors and I've never heard of Central Hospital ( their web site link shows page not found) plus honestly, this is the first time in thirteen years I've ever heard the name mentioned!
Sorry if someone else already answered this... I didn't see it.
I was able to open this web page http://centralchiangmaihospital.com/
Been there as long as I can remember (which isn't saying much!)

we got tickets CM to Don Mueang in 2 weeks for for about 543 Baht each inc. taxes.

He got there at 10:00 in the morning and got a queue number because they had not given out all 20 for the day. Seems like this time of the year there is not as many people asking for the extensions on their what ever. Mine is a retirement one. At least that is what it says on the original.
I only take in proof of income statement from the American conciliate. I also have the proof but the one time I tried to show it to them they would not let me. Not needed they say. As for 5 minutes to do the whole process that is remarkable unless you are using an agent. I admit it is not always the applicants fault. It took me 1/2 hour one year at the airport. The lady was sitting at the back desk where a man usually sat. The other staff kept coming up and asking her questions. At one point she went into the managers office for 15 minutes. She had no problem what so ever with my papers they were all there and signed properly.
I wonder if he was using a partial bank balance and the rest in guaranteed income? Half of each or some sort of division. Not sure what the least amount in the bank would be acceptable.
American conciliate?

"Another hospital I had the unfortunate pleasure of visiting was Central Chiang mI I had a suspected broken jaw after a crash but they didn't even xray me. My wife was very unhappy with the hospital and said Government hospitals are far better. Its a weird place reminicent of some old hotel, strange type building for a hospital."
Central C.M is a government hospital and not a very good one at that. they didn't x-ray you because all of the patients who need any type of radiology are transferred by ambulance to that private radilogy clinic next to Teppanya Hospital.
there is nothing wrong with McCormick; especially the OB/GYN dept. which is staffed by senior, experienced doctors. the nursing staff very nice and very competent, and although prices are up there a good 30% in the last couple of years, they don't try and gouge you (too much), and you can discuss each and every charge with them and they will tell you what everything is for. if you disagree, some adjustments can be made. i would not go there for heart surgery or something....deliver a baby - yes.

"Road Accident Victims Protection Co., Ltd" is the basic Por Ror Bor policy that only pays out something like 35-50K for medical expenses (I exhausted that in 15 minutes after my accident) and doesn't cover any property damage. you need a supplemental plan for that. i use Sri Audhya which covers up to about 20 million per occurrence.

I'm in Lanna Pinery - water has been a real problem lately with not enough to use showers at night - sometimes during the day.....
we've had the same problem in Sansai for about 8 months now. after about 23:00 up until about 6:00 it's impossible to take a shower upstairs. not enough pressure. complete cuts in the day often, sometimes for 5 hours, as they rebuild the infrastructure - so they say.
