I posted on another thread about a fella obtaining a 30 day extension (Samui) on a TR with no issue. The information is correct but it's one single instance I know of which is not a lot. I know a few others who will be doing it but not until early next week in the hope of a further amnesty whereby they can potentially keep the unused 30 day extension in their pocket for later use.

Seriously ?
And were you on visa or visa exempt ?
Looks like good news for me...
For many also.
Maybe they are doing a soft shoe shuffle? Get as many people as you can to spend money on some kind of visa (bent or not) then announce an extension just before people become illegal. Financially a good idea.

If that policy has changed, either everywhere or at least in Chiang Mai, that's welcome news for those affected.
Samui immigration issued a 30 day extension on a TR to a fella I know last week. He entered mid March and the amnesty came into effect before he needed to use the 30 day extension Not sure if it was last Wed or Thur but it was, as usual, from the expiry date rather than the actual date so 26 October it is. He said is was no issue but he didn't ask any questions so that is all the data I have. Erm. Form (TM30 is it called?), 2 photos and 1900. Take note, for what it's worth, that this was on an SETV and not a visa exempt or VOA entry.
Another fella who has since returned to the UK was told a month or so back (by immigration) that he should wait until closer to the 26th to use the extension as things may well change. He's gone now so doesn't matter but again this was on the back of an SETV entry that had not been extended.
Personal note. Wish everyone well and take care.

Just wait, in a week they will announce another amnesty extension.
Fellow member on another thread suggested not on the grounds of face saving. I would argue that 'face' is subjective and offer 'clarifications' as an example.
Another fellow member wrote about timing with today being the last date if there were to be an amnesty extension... or next Tuesday. Businesswise it would be good to get as many people on some kind of visa (money) then pronounce an amnesty extension late on for those who remain. Do they want the negative media when people simply cannot leave because there are no flights. It's still a lot of people even after the various shifty visas having been issued.

Turkey invaded part of the EU and the EU done nothing. Happy to bomb Libya and such but refuses to protect 'their' people. You/they can't use the argument of mustering the fleet after decades. Disgusting.

you can't get another extension without a letter from your embassy for which you need a fairly good excuse like your sick and can't fly.
Get a 'cannot fly' chit from a hospital so need for an embassy to be involved.
In local news a fella I know went to immigration (Samui) during the week and got the unused 30 day extension on his TR visa with no issue. SETV visa.

Lenovo: OS will be on the D drive so back up any pictures, music etc. and do a reinstall. A factory reset in essence so you will have it as when you bought it. Why bother tinkering?
Also Lenovo: Good manufacture imo. Built to last. SSD would likely make a good upgrade to it. I've a 500GB laying around if you want it. Gratis.

There are people who will be happy to do this.
They have a house here and usually come for a minimum of three months. Sometimes six months.
In the village where I live I know of 6, possibly 8 that would jump at the chance.
Just 1,999,992 to go
Same. I know a few who are essentially locked in, in their mother country residence anyway. If they can't venture out for a couple of weeks upon entry, it wound not be an issue.

makes no sense to get rid of those already here who don’t have COVID and are also spending the baht.
Even more so given the time elapsed. News often bangs on about 'those stranded' which was true maybe 4-5 months ago but it isn't now. anyone who has made it this far should be told they can chill out 'til the end of the year. I can't see the powerful business wing of the administration allowing it (chucking out paying customers) to happen. If they want money then tell everyone to go 7-11 with 2 large and their passport. I dunno... like you say, it makes no sense.

And how exactly are tourists going to get there? Will they start to issue tourist visas again? Flights?
Cheers for the lol.
Doubtless it has not been well thought out so we can expect a clarification and by clarification I mean a complete change.

QuoteThis could be a stumbling block if recent opinion polls are correct that suggest up to 90% of people want to keep Thailand shut.

Surely if you get until the 26th September to get a new visa then most people in the right mind would look to maximise the ‘free days’ they have been given... because as mentioned above somewhere, your visa starts form the day you apply...
meaning 25th 26th will be busy as hell... might be silly for some people to leave it until last minute you might say but enough people do it.. dare I say 90% of people
Highly likely indeed though the same can be said of the present amnesty. If this new regulation is not enacted there will be a ****ton of people looking to fly out on or before the 31st. Demand will swamp supply. Would be interesting to know how many people are actually stranded here but that's another thread.

I totally agree with all of this. The group that is left are a nomadic bunch that add to the economy, and with the Thai economy forecast to contract 15% in the previous quarter, it is a valuable all be it small add to the economy by having this group stay. Every little bit helps though at the moment.
My prediction is they will announce on Wednesday 15th, but it may require some some paperwork to be lodged and perhaps a Covid Visa Fee. It would be nice if you could just fill out a form, lodge and pay at local Police station rather than visiting immigration.
For sure. There is also a possible benefit in that people who are here may entice others to come visit.... when they can. Free advertising really.
7-11 etc. They already use passports for PAYG Sims so the ability is there. Crazy as I am... I can imagine a green sign outside Family saying 'Extension available here.... free WIFI'
Added extra content lol.... 15th is getting late to inform people. I would ask what they possibly think can happen between now and then.
Stay safe, keep well and good fortune.

i'm on tourist visa, expired april 17th. hope they extend it
Same though I have an unused 30 day extension which, I'm told, is still valid. The hospitality / tourism sector seem confident that a further amnesty will be given but how much of that confidence is based on desire rather than reasonable belief? I don't know. That being said their economic arguments are pretty good as are their health related ones. Fella a short while back asked the point of throwing out perfectly serviceable Covid free paying guests with no hope of filling their seat in the foreseeable future. It's been speculated that there could be a charge (1900 Baht?) for what would be an extension (90 days?) Perfectly reasonable but how would they collect the money without large gatherings of people at immigration offices come month end. Something HAS to happen, in my view. If it's just left to lapse then it could be chaos at Swampy come the end of the month
There is also the question of who are those still here for tourist reasons and why. The media sometimes mentions being stranded but I don't see it. Previously yes but now no. What is left is a subgroup of people who can self sustain and thus contribute to the social pot.
My prediction is that they will announce on Monday that the present visa regulations will be extended until the 30th September.
Anyway.... good fortune and stay safe.

My guess it is a matter of reciprocity: UK citizens cannot enter Thailand without a 14-day quarantine if they can enter at all.
Highly likely. Quite sad really.

No info about the amnesty being extended yet. I would say the earliest they will make a announcement about it is mid July.
That would be my take too. If they do choose to extend the amnesty then not much work is required to do so. Nod of the head.... not even a day. However, if that is their plan then announcing it earlier rather than later would be better all around. When are inbound due? 1st September? Extend until the end of September. Big problem 'they' face is that obviously self supporting paying customers have to exit the building from time to time and when they try to re-enter, the door will be locked.

I am in a right pickle. I am married to a Thai girl who has lived most of her life in Tokyo. She has a nice but small apartment in a nice area. She gets a pension, healthcare insurance etc from her dead husband's estate, but only a one year visa which must be renewed every year. We often go together in the spring to renew the visa and the fall to avoid the rainy season in Thailand.
She left about 3 weeks ago to renew her visa....it takes about 2-3 months there....so she has no passport and cannot leave Japan until the new visa to stay there is issues. If I go to Tokyo to see her I must go through 14 days of quarantine when I go, and when I come back to Bangkok. I want to do 28 days in quarantine like I want a hole in my head.
I follow all the news about lifting of the quarantine and note that the UK has just introduced one (a bit late) but these laws are easier to introduce that to do away with. I am going stir crazy here on my own in Thailand and am awaiting the date when I can travel to Tokyo without quarantine or she can come here with out it.
Dammmmn Good fortune mate.

So letting people stay who don't have coronavirus and are pumping money into economy to help what little businesses are open stay afloat doesn't sound like too bad an idea. In fact, it sounds like common sense.
Yep.... million percent as they say. Most any farang still here is still able to self sustain so it makes perfect sense to allow them to remain. Transition period would be a kindly act for those who didn't run away. Boom another 3 months to anybody already here and impose strict restrictions on inbound traffic.
