Does anyone know the current requirements for getting a visa based on retirement from Ho Chi Minh City?
-
Thanks. Any comments regarding Saigon/HCMC?

Thanks Joe. The page (on the main consular affairs website) that the website of the Penang consulate links to for visa information mentions the requirement for a criminal record check and health certificate. Do they not actually ask for this? Flying there would be easier than the fly-and-ride thing to Savannakhet I guess.
Thanks again.

What is currently considered to be the best place to apply for a non-immigrant visa based on retirement? By "best", I mean the consulate that has the least in the way of documentary requirements and is located in a regional city directly accessible by a budget airline from Bangkok.

Some jewelry stores, as opposed to regular gold shops, could have it. Look in the higher-end shopping malls or hotel shopping arcades.

That was a very quick reply. Thank you.

Does anybody know if the policy regarding blacklisting visitors for a year following a 90-day overstay is currently being enforced across the board? Selectively enforced?
Thanks.

You can only apply for one 30 day extension of a 60 day tourist visa entry.
You can apply for a 7 day extension, pay 1900 baht and be granted 7 days to leave the country.
The 7 days start from the end of the 30 day extension.
Thank you

My understanding is that you can apply for, and receive, a 30-day extension of stay after entering on a tourist visa only once. After that, a second application for extension will result in you being given an additional 7 days to leave the country (from the date of expiry of the original extension). Also that the second, refused request, still requires the payment of a 1900 Baht fee. Can someone confirm that this is indeed correct?
Thank you.

EDIT By the way, for my own education, I'm intrigued where permits underground electrical cabling in yellow conduit (the [almost] universal colour for natural gas)? Thailand uses black HDPE (not PVC) with a red stripe.
Thailand also uses the yellow PVC for electrical and telephone installations. Here's one local manufacturer.

Is it possible to get a multiple-entry non-immigrant type "O" visa based on retirement at Savannakhet? The discussions that I've seen are for visas based on marriage.
If possible, what is required other than the affidavit of monthly income from the applicant's embassy in Thailand?
Thanks in advance.

For the OP. if you are in the Bangkok area, Bamrasnaradura (Bamras) Hospital, attached to the Ministry of Public Health in Nonthaburi, has a clinic that specializes in HIV treatment. One of my employees has been treated there for several years and the cost of treatment is paid for from her social security insurance.

In addition to paying the 20,000 Baht fine for overstay when leaving, is there any penalty for not complying with the 90-day reporting rule?
Thanks.

Thanks again.
It looks like his cheapest alternative would be to fly to Vientiane.
in the long term, what is the difference between applying for a visa based on marriage and one based on retirement? I've read on other threads about getting a multi-entry visa based on marriage at Savannakhet. It the same possible for a retirement visa?

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Where is a good destination to get a tourist visa? Are there no multi-entry options?
Thanks again.

I've been asked some questions regarding overstay and obtaining a new visa but since this is not something that I have experience with I would like to get the opinions of people here that do have knowledge regarding the Thai visa laws and regulations.
This has come up because of the new overstay regulations that will be effective March 30.
An older guy that I know has been living in Thailand for many years (over 30). He has a home and family consisting of wife and the wife's adult children who no longer live with them. He and his wife have not registered their marriage.
The guy's last visa/permission to stay expired sometime in 2006. His passport with the visa stamps has also expired but he has obtained a new passport from his embassy in Bangkok (he's Canadian, if it makes any difference). He has obviously not visited the Immigration Department to transfer his old visa to the new passport and has not done any 90 day reporting.
In advance of the new blacklist penalties and considering his obvious desire to remain with his family, what should he do / what are his options?
Can he just show up at the airport with the old and new passports plus 20,000 Baht and leave the country?
If so, where should he travel to and what kind of visa should he apply for to return? Is there such a thing as a multiple entry retirement visa? I assume that he doesn't have a lot of money in a bank account anywhere.
Thank you in advance for helpful replies.

Normally, in a condo, you would not have a DSLAM onsite, only an MDP (Main Distribution Panel). The DSLAM would be located at the nearest RCU. In any case, you are correct that you would be better off to run twisted pair cable to your unit. At the condo where I used to live, I bought the cable and the resident maintenance guy ran it from my unit to the MDP.

You could order a transformer directly from one of the local manufacturers; Tira Thai is a good one, and then get someone to install it for you. A 100 kVA transformer is small enough to fit in a pickup so transportation shouldn't be much of an issue.
In most places for PEA the specs would be 22 kV primary, 400/230 V secondary and Dyn11 for the vector group.

GinBoy2, did the installer do any kind of structural analysis of your roof before installing the panels? Just curios.

I remember as a young kid in the early 60's we'd get on our bicycles and ride behind the truck spraying this stuff; trying to stay in the "cloud". We all survived.

Crossy, my one roof faces directly south, has no shade and I'm at 16.45˚ latitude, normal roof slope, do you have any idea how many hours direct sunlight I would get on a sunny day, or a site to go to that would help me?
I hope you don't mind if I step in. The capacity factor for most of Thailand is 15% - 16%, so you can figure 0.16 x 365 days x 24 hours = 1,402 hours/year.
If the slope of your roof is much more than 16.45 degrees, then you should adjust the output slightly downward to account for that as well.

That's very interesting. I work for a reasonably traditional Thai company. If I can justify something that can make money or save money, I stand a good chance of getting it done. What I can't do is cover a number of rooftops with solar panels and wind turbines without some strong numbers to back it up.
Considering the low take up of renewable energy in a country with so much sun, this is something I will have to sell quite hard.
I've sent you a PM. We would be glad, with no obligation on your part, to take a look and run the basic numbers to give you an idea of what might be possible.

The size of the roof (0.3 - 0.5 rai) is very much in line with current government incentives for rooftop solar. In my opinion it would be fairly easy to make an economic argument for developing it. Otherwise, there are companies that will lease the rooftop and develop it themselves for much more than you would get from True.

In addition to my above question about the requirements at HCMC, would Yangon be a good option?
Thanks.
