  1. The bigger factor has been the canvassing of voters in towns and cities across Scotland by YES supporters.....something that has been ignored by the media.

This the same media which has been churning out the mantra of Wither Together for months.....well I can tell you that the YES campaign has had offices in towns all over Scotland....with literally an open door policy every day for anyone to drop by and ask any question they wish on any issue.

They have also been in town squares every weekend making themselves available to help inform the public on this vote.

The no campaign has focused almost exclusively on their media advantage....which in the end has proved their undoing....as many voters have seen through the lies they have told.

They have no grass roots support....only those who were hoodwinked....and are now waking up to the realities of the issues and potential benefits of being independent.

Key to the YES campaign gaining ground is that there are no projections of huge wealth.....simply a whole lot of fresh opportunity and hope.

Scottish voters know from experience a Tory government will give many in Scotland no hope at all.

The difference in campaigns has been an eye-opener for sure. Now is like the run-in to the Grand National and they've just passed The Elbow. Will one of the two campaigns suffer a Devon Loch moment? I think the gloves could come off during this next 10 days or so ... it'll be interesting to see what ammunition they have left.

  2. I'm not British or Scottish... So nothing in the game...

But from my general life experience, I have found that those who are truly 'undecided', normally opt for the status quo

Given this, unless the yes vote continues to grow more momentum, would put my money on this not passing

The problem is persuading them to vote. That said, on the day, I still think it'll be around 52-48 in favour of the No option.

  3. Sounds they want all the benefits but don't want to pay for them, so they will still be a millstone around the neck of the UK

Won't the UK have to change its name? Scotland is easy. What will the remainder be called? Maybe at the same time you could take the opportunity to do away with that awful national anthem in favour of something with a bit more oomph! about it. coffee1.gif

  4. Where did you get the idea that I was interested in working for the university? Try reading my posts again and see if you can figure out that I was asking about the name of the place.

I didn't. I referred to folk - the same folk you suggested "might shun it". If I wanted to refer to you in particular, I would have said "you". But I didn't.

If folks can't understand what they're reading, they might not be best suited to make negative remarks about other people.

Folk is perfectly OK, thank-you. wai2.gif

Anyway, I think we've established that maybe you're not interested in the positions.

  5. I didn't want to jump to any conclusion. That's why I asked the question. But I wonder how may people do jump to that conclusion. Do you guys that work there ever talk about that possibility and how some people might shun it assuming that Thaksin Shinawatra is involved in it?

If folk don't bother doing a bit of basic research, they might not be best suited for employment in a university. sad.png

  6. Is this university named after the Thai PM convicted of corruption, or is there another respectable Thaksin its name honors? I'm not trying to be negative about the place, I was just a little shocked by the name. If it is named after Thaksin Shinawatra, who actually did that, his sister?

Thaksin means "southern". It's the Southern University. If it was named after your man, it might be called Shinawatra University, or something. whistling.gif

Not sure about the appeal of the actual jobs but, IMHO, it's a great location and a great town to live in.

FWIW, the Thaksin Express train isn't named after the ex-PM either.

  7. Happened again. This time going to malaysia on monday, the female immigration officer asked if I arrived by car or van. when I said car, she kept the passport till i paid the 10 baht. Is there any place where I can lodge a complaint? How I wished I can have a video of the whole situation and post it on Youtube.

What are you going to complain about?

  8. There are a couple of places just outside the main entrance to the airport. Advertised costs were well under 1k per day (I have no idea if the price referred to a minimum hire period). Budget also has a desk just as you exit the arrivals hall at the airport.

  9. Is that the stadium where Songkhla United play? Also interested to know if that team has any sort of expat support...

The games we go to, we probably see another half dozen or so farangs. There is a break in the season now until early October ... make the most of the remaining games though - it's likely they'll be playing in the first division next season.

  10. I'm looking at the combined x2 deal in Hat Yai ... 18 down/1.8 up and TrueVisions Gold, some nonsense about speed boost but no-one seems to know exactly what "speed boost" is. Does anyone know if True throttles your connection and, if so, to what degree?

  11. A news conference to be held later this morning apparently ...

    from The Nation ...

    THAII's urgent press conference
    August 24, 2014 10:26 pm
Thai Airways International will tomorrow host a press conference, following a report of mass resignation by over 200 pilots.
The report cited that the pilots were concerned with the airline’s fragile financial position. In the first half of this year, the national airline showed Bt10 billion in net loss. The outlook remains weak given fierce competition introduced mainly by low-cost airlines.
