  1. What does what say ?

The certificate. It certifies my residence ( against the wives tabian ban ), that I'm the guy in the photo, that my visa is an non-o ( they kindly left out the fact its a year multi ) and when I entered and when my current stamp is up.

    That's what I thought ...

I also phoned the tessaban yesterday, they offer a similar service, i will drop in ( and maybe the ampur ) next week, to see if i can get a similar document to change the green book on the bike, because I hate that rude guy at immigration with the specs shouting in my face. There seem a couple of options without forking out money to the embassy in Bangkok.

Never had a problem with the guy. Just have your paperwork in order before dumping it on him. I don't think I've ever spent more than 5-10 minutes in the place.

  2. Many Immigration Offices, including Hat Yai, don't issue Certificates of Residence - you need either a letter from your Embassy or your WP. Both are accepted by the Land Transport Department.

    Really ?

This wouldn't be a certificate of residence that i didn't get from HY immigration today.

It took a little bit of traveling back and forth, but I got it. Its not as easy as filling in a simple form and its also a free service.

For some reason, it was a bit 'cloak and dagger' I had sealed envelopes that i came home, steamed open and scanned the documents before resealing and taking to immigration and the test centre, but I'm happy to forward an example of the letter and procedure if needed by anyone.

Im pretty sure the letter will work with LTO and a way to get a bank account without a WP.

    What does it say?

  3. Following Mr Mcghee's darkest hour on this planet, the Pattaya Daily Mail and Thai Visa Forum find it appropriate to splash his personal details and even more personal problems across their electronic tabloids for all to see.

In spite of it being a good story, there are very appropriate reasons why media outlets in Australia (and I assume USA, UK etc) do not report such events.

    Shame.

Nothing whatsoever to do with the Pattaya Mail.

    Shame! wai.gif

  4. "My english is perfect (and dare you challenge me! I speak English many many words)"

Is someone going to tell him/her? whistling.gif

That error was on purpose. I tried to paraphrase the "I speak English little bit" I heard here quite a bit. Now I got to prove I am not the father.....

What accent should i choose? Please carry no favors smile.png

I found that Native English speakers find it easier to understand me. Still mother tongue helps. The other disappointment is that some Thais have a far nicer accent that myself.

Maybe you could try speaking without your hands. As for accents, I'd go for a good Scottish brogue - more Connery than Shrek, though! The same applies to shoes. thumbsup.gif

  5. Which American culture? Afro-American? Hispanic? European? Asian? They certainly don't seem to have a preference for American sports or fashion, although they do seem to like pizza, albeit Thai style, and the military seems to have lots of American guns. I did notice that they do like some American singers (at least ones with white skin), but they seem to like a lot of K-Pop as well. I'm sure there must be more, I just can't think of any ... sad.png

Maybe KFC, McDonalds, CocaCola and Hollywood Movies - if any of these can be loosely described as 'culture' in the US

The food and drink joints are just a result of globalisation, not really a preference for American culture, IMHO. Foodwise, looking round the malls, I'd say their preference is currently for Japanese scoff. As for Hollywood movies ... are they actually American culture? - obviously the bombing and shooting action movies are, but the likes of The Hobbit and Harry Potter don't seem to have much to do with American culture per se ... they're just made by American studios.

  6. Those of us who were around at the time were very well aware of the oil potential. Westminster did everything possible to avoid losing Scotland. Why else do they continue to do this? Because the oil is still flowing strongly and the revenue lost to Westminster would be massive. They will pull every trick they can think of, including the last-minute promise voiced by Gordon Brown, which was certainly pushing the bounds of the rules on campaigning prior to the vote.

I assumed that's the reason Brown was used, because he was no more than a opposition back-bencher. I noticed this morning that the choice of words had changed somewhat from last week ... now, he'll "do everything he can" ...

  7. For most modern Thais, English is the language they want to learn, but the culture that attracts them more is American.

Like it or not, that's the way it is.

  8. When do the English get to vote if we want Scotland

Why do some folk keep referring to "The English", rather than "England". Aren't the rest of the folk in your country going to have a say in the matter? On second thoughts, perhaps you better not answer that. whistling.gif

  9. I have no reason to like or dislike Herr Salmonella. But you have to have some sympathy for a guy who tried to lead his people to the promised land, only for the Haggises and Lassies to turn round, raise their skirts and kilts and wind on him. I never realised the dork Cameron was a dish. No knowing what ladies think! I am sure I am missing something; well maybe a lot of things.

Still pissed-off that you weren't old enough to vote, or what? coffee1.gif

  10. All this blasting the Thais, is it going to help find the killers ? And also, anywhere else on planet earth, yes, one of the concerns of the 'locals' is the impact it will have on tourism. It's just that the Thais are not that good at public relations, that's why some of them have made comments to the media about how this tragic crime might harm tourism.

I thought they just have different priorities. sad.png

  11. Sensible result in the end.

Salmonds aim was to be the "Founding Father of Scotland" by any means. Look at the destruction he has left behind.

he was right about one thing....Scotland does get to keep the pound

    Yes...

Earlier this year two men dreamt they could become prime minister of their country by curious routes. One succeeded and one failed.

It may have escaped your notice but Salmond already was, and still is, First Minister of Scotland.

  12. It'll be interesting to see the next couple of Honours Lists ... a few folk are "owed one". coffee1.gif

    Andy Murray?

Lord Murray of Dunblane? Or just, Sir Andrew?

Oh I reckon he'll go with the Lord bit.

No need ... I've just found out his middle name is Barron. thumbsup.gif

Back to the serious stuff now ... the golf starts next Friday!
