You can buy a smaller air conditioner next time. One solution:

For a non inverter yes, but for an inverter type you are better off buying a bit bigger one than is required for your room. A lot of people buy an inverter just big enough for the room. The AC then mostly runs at full speed which is a waste money in paying extra for the inverter and the possible repair costs. If larger than required it can bring the room temp down faster then will run slower to keep room temp and save money. Another thing people don't realise there is a LOT of electronics in an inverter AC. In really hot weather, and depending where the outdoor unit is placed, the electronics gets hot and the Acs are "smart" enough to de-rate themselves to keep the electronics overheating. So again better to have bigger.

I wonder what the difference is between what MEA and PEA charge per unit

My last PEA bill I had consumed 285 units for 1057.21 baht which comes to 3.57 baht per unit. Then add on 38.22 monthly fee minus 33.06 discount plus 74.37 tax and bill comes to 1136.74.

How does that compare to MEA?

  3. My gf lives in an apartment block. Each room has its own meter but read by the manager and not PEA. On her monthly room bill just has cost for electricity not how many units used. One time I took reading on the first of a couple month and she was being charged double the standard rate, and I thought that had been made illegal. I am 100% sure the 3% won't be passed on to individual room renters.

I genuinely admire you for the action that you took particularly in view of your son’s disability.

Unfortunately there are many and it’s not only in Thailand, who think that children are dispensable to be thrown aside to become a responsibility for others.

I obtained custody of my seven year old son in Australia in the days when it was unusual for a father to gain such rights and there were no single parents pensions for men.

I have no regrets and he remained at home until he married as an adult and during those years did not obtain one cent in support from his mother.

I shake my head in despair when I read posts asking is there an obligation to support your child.

Agree. I guess only difference is that "farang" ask if obligation. Thai men just take off. That last point maybe a bit generalised but EVERY single girl with a child I have spoken to the father just took off and left. And I have spoken to quite a few.

    (1) The value of gold can fall far more in a few days than one loses in negative interest rates in a year or decade.  In any case, negative interest rates are (almost?) invariably for commercial borrowers - not for retail customers.  UBS' interest rates are at https://www.ubs.com/ch/en/private/interest-rates.html and not a negative sign to be seen.

Amazing how you keep going on about how bad gold is. Haven't seen you mention how bad the stock markets have been in the last few weeks.

If unmarried there are no laws to enforce child support, and you have no rights as a father.

I had a child with a Myanmar lady in Thailand. We were not, and still not married. Her and my names are on the birth certificate but because she was from Myanmar, me Australia and baby born in Thailand the birth certificate listed him as no nationality. He chocked on his milk at 6 weeks, died on the way to the hospital, revived but suffered brain damage from being without oxygen for so long. As he was stateless I applied for him to become Australian Citizen by Descent. This took about 7 months but finally happened then I got his Australian passport. In that time his mother started neglecting him (we were not living together by her choice) so I went into discussions with Queensland state adoption. Now he is in the care of a wonderful foster carer in Australia.

I guess what I am saying is not married but still managed to get all this done as his father.

FYI, The difference between gold futures and spot price widened again this morning.

So there must still be some problem with supply lines.

Reading some articles this morning there are big problems in supply. Firstly mines have shut down, then refineries, then manufacturers (mints, etc) and finally transport to the dealers.

Thai gold is still only 200 baht spread. Probably head up soon.

If I'm not mistaken, Japan is still allowing flights, but most likely you need to go to bangkok first.

Note: Visa exemptions on arrival are canceled, depending on your nationality.

    Japan still allowing flights?

This is a screen cap from flightradar24 taken just now (17:00 Thailand time 29th). Seems to be just a few flights in/out japan and china.

Obviously not as restricted as some people think.

I don't care about people making money at this moment because that what happens everytime when there is war or a pandemic like this , people make money . But saying that you'r getting tired of people talking about the virus is a bit bold in my mind , there should be more airtime on television and more commercials or whatever way they can reach people because this thing is serious and people have to take it as serious as it is because at this moment they don't . Look at the US it's hitting hard there now and will get more worse with the stupid springbreak corona party's . TIK TOK people licking toilet seats elevator buttons whatever . Wake up and try to be as serious as possible and stay healthy and safe .

Where did I say I was getting tired of people talking about the virus?

Gold is pretty.  But so much of a charge each time you buy or sell.  Selling even 1 oz in USA requires your ID.  It's not easy to buy things with gold in this modern  world.   Over the last 50 years gold hasn't performed better than most investments.

I am referring to Thai gold where it is easy to buy and sell and if you buy bullion 5baht weight and above there is no commission at dealers I use only the spread which up until yesterday was only 100 baht. The gold shop I use charges a 200 baht commission on bars less than 5baht weight.

And I am talking last few years, not 50, were gold has performed ok and very well compared to the last few weeks.

Curfew if implemented, and enforced by who???? Police ????, Army???? if it was implemented by either of these I would lock down and self isolate out of sight.

The 2014 curfew was mostly soldiers but police too. I remember leaving a bar a bit late when the curfew was 10pm. Tuk Tuk driver drove all the back ways to avoid the curfew posts. Needless to say I made made sure of times after that.

This fits in with what the US is doing.  If I did not miss my guess they are trying to follow TRUMP and the doctors in the US as there is no medical staff here that fully understand.

The closure of the borders is a good thing.  However, what they should do is close all airports  other than Don Muang .  The reason I say DMG should be open is they can then herd anyone coming in to the air base and quarantine them there.

Every country is running into the same problem that people are to stupid to self quarantine.

The pan is sound but just like a lot of big cities and countries the process was lacking.  Before shutting down businesses they c\should have closed the cities and ensured that no one left.

OH well Trump seems to think they can get the country back on it's feet again by Easter.  If that is the case Thailand should not be too far behind.

As to the economy I am not worried it will bounce back.  There may not be the same players and some shops may close but there will always be someone opening a bar, restaurant or such.  Factories will open and things will get back to normal.

This was a snapshot of aircraft in the air over china this morning from flightradar24. Just a few.
