  1. I used to stop but then get tooted by cars behind me.

In Chiang Mai there is a left turn from Changklan Road into Sridonchai Road near Panthip Plaza which actually has a red left arrow. They still turn on the red arrow and I still get tooted if I stop.

  2. I pay my rent via internet transfer from my Bangkok Bank to the landlords Kbank account. I have been doing this 2 years no problems. Paid as usual on the 11th Feb. Agent called me on 16th and said landlord had phoned and she hadn't received payment. Checked my account online and money gone.

Went to the local BB branch and told them. Money gone nothing we can do I was told then told to go see Kbank. I knew they could not do much as not my bank but still went to branch in same shopping centre. They were quite good in that they put me onto their call centre. Had a chat with him and he said I needed to file a query via my bank. I said ok i will go back to bank. He told not to goto branch as they don't know I needed to phone there call centre. Went home and did so. After all details taken they said money should be in landlords account by 7pm next day the 17th Feb. Didn't hear anything for a few days so assumed all ok. Then on 26th agent called again and said still no money. Phoned bank again with previous case number but they said they would submit another query. They phoned the next night and told me transfer was successful. I informed agent as such.

Then again today the 1st Mar agent messaged again and said still no money in account. So I just said I have paid and have proof and submitted queries 2 times so I am not doing any more.

I asked agent could they collect the money and pay the landlord but no reply as yet. That is often what is done in Oz but don't know about here.

  3. I have had 3BB about 5 years now and found them to be good, actually better than 2 of the big providers in Oz. Recently my internet performance dropped a lot. I have a thing called a "Fing" box which monitors my network. One of its tasks is to perform a daily speed test and emails results to me at the start of the month for the previous month. Thats how I knew performance dropping. Called 3BB up and they sent tech out who immediately replaced modem for new dual band (sounds as same in OP) and now great speeds even on wifi on the 5Ghz band.

  4. My girlfriend is on overstay from Myanmar and has been for awhile. We have been trying to get her ID for a long time now. Have been scammed a little or just get the big "run around". It does not help I don't understand the language and she just doesn't understand much she is told and forgets and tells me wrong stuff. On a recent visit to her consulate here in Chiang Mai they told her to go home. She said she didn't want to so they told her to stay out of trouble or she could be arrested and deported. She also has the belief that immigration can't go to her room and arrest her and she also said they will just let me go. She is very naive. She doesn't work as I have been supporting her.

  5. I emailed the Lott with the following question:-

At the moment I am spending extended time in Thailand. I have an online account and have become aware that I am not allowed to purchased from Thailand. My wife is living in Australia looking after her parents. Is it legal if she uses my account, obviously with my permission, to put lotto on? Money will be paid by and Australian bank account, wins into Australian bank account and my registered address is in Qld, Australia. I don't want to win the "big one" and find out I can not collect it.

    They replied with:-

As you are probably aware, all of the minor prizes are paid into your online account and you can then withdraw any funds you might win. With the 'big one' - division one prize - you will need to be able to show ID with an address in Australia (except WA). As long as you can do this, then there are no issues with your account.

So it appears all you need is a current valid Australian ID. I still have my Queensland drivers license.

I rang the Aussie lotto people (The Lott) and they made it clear that ticket purchases made outside of Australia are against the rules and winnings would not be paid.
As mentioned above by others, my winnings (only ever small so far) have also always been paid into my online account as I play often using a VPN.
Should I ever win the big one, I too will accept their phone call to my Australian mobile number (on roaming) and be on the first plane home. But with my luck I’m sure the lottery officials will check the IP address that was used to buy the winning ticket, establish that the IP address belongs to an offshore VPN provider then check with Immigration to ascertain if I was overseas on the day the ticket was purchased.
When I arrive back to Aus to claim the big one they will then say “sorry Sir, but we’re withholding payment as we think you illegally bought the winning ticket from overseas. Please show us your passport to confirm our suspicions”

When my wife and I came to Thailand we still put our lotto for 10 weeks at a time using my account. We did not know this was not allowed. There was no problems until not so long ago I could not login anymore. Doing research I found that we we not supposed to do that and we were now blocked from OS IP. So I used a VPN and log in via that. After reading this I am concerned.

I am still in Thailand and commitments are keeping me here for a few more years but my wife has had to return to Australia to care for her aging parents. My online account has an Australian address, games paid for by an Australian credit card and wins paid into an Australian bank account. I am wondering if I get her to log in from her iPad in Australia into my account and put the lotto on for me would that be ok as bought in Australia plus my account details as above.?

  7. Another thing to remember when calculating size for panel output is that solar cells produce power from light and not heat. The rating on a solar cell is done at 25 degrees C. As the temp of the panel goes above 25 its rating drops. In the specs you will see a negative figure of watts and temp, that is how much the panel will drop in maximum output per increase above 25 C.

I have proven that with my system I had in Queensland, Australia. Go wife to watch inverter out put on a hot sunny day while I got onto roof and hosed the panels to cool them. Output significantly increased.

I only say this because so many people think the hotter the climate the better for solar.

Also panels do deteriorate and drop output as do the batteries over time.

    got this quote from china

For 12v 100Ah lithium battery , based on 8 units order quantity .

the FOB bangkok price is US$425/unit

I figure 10 batteries is enough so $4250 plus say $4000 for solar cells, inverters, etc and 50k baht for backup diesel generator

    so about 300k baht.

we are still talking to PEA about transformer, try get the price down a bit. i've heard in Phuket i can get a meter that runs backwards when producing more power that needed, that would be the best option, no need for batteries then.

Don't forget import taxes, can hit you hard, I got caught importing some medical equipment from China.

I would always go for the 800k in the bank. But what happens if you have an unexpected large bill within 3 months of the extension which takes you below the 800k. Without the 65k a month transfer you are f*****.

If immigration want proof of income in Australia I can't do. If they just want to see 65k coming into Thai bank I can do.

  10. I don't have an "income" only savings in Australia which does make a small income in interest. I can easily transfer 65,000 baht a month (retirement extension) but no proof of income. Reading the amended police rules I understood the transfer into a Thai bank from international would be ok. I contacted an agent I used last year and they replied with immigration have already changed twice since the amendment came out and hopes to know more next week but advised the 800k is the safest way to go.

It seems she is incapable of doing anything unaided. Presumably, when she originally got a work permit, someone helped her, probably for money. Have you managed to figure out who helped her get a work permit? Maybe, that individual has contacts inside Myanmar who could contact her father to get the basic information you need to know how to proceed:

    • Name of father (OK, you have that)
    • Nationality of father
    • Name of mother
    • Nationality of mother
    • Is mother still living? Is there any chance of finding the mother?
    • Place and date of birth
    • Whether birth was registered

It will become even more difficult if her father dies before anything is done.

As I previously mentioned she changed her phone and number and lost all contact details including her father.

    Assume she knows fathers name.

    She doesn't know his nationality.

    Mother deceased.

Again, as mentioned she does not know where she was born. Not sure when she was born.

    No idea if registered.

Yes it will become very difficult if he dies and I am trying to get her to go home now.

Does she even want to solve her problem or is this just what you want?

She wants it. I have just about reached the point of running around I don't care and ready to give up. Believe me you have to know her to know what she is like. To give an example we went to doctors at RAM once and they told her to come back at a certain time and day. She walked out of the office and I asked her when. She had forgotten in less than 1 minute. I had to go ask. This applies to everything she does.

You really only have two options at this stage.

If you suspect she is from Myanmar then all migrants from there need to go back and undertake ‘nationality verification’ where they go back and get their IDs updated and then a passport can be issued for them to return to Thailand.

Without this they they are unable to apply for the non-immigrant LA visas anymore and can’t get sponsored for the work permit that comes with this under the migrant labour scheme.

The local department of labour office usually has the step by step outline of how to do all of this.

If you suspect she is a from a minority hill tribe then the Thai government has been promoting getting everyone Thai ID cards to prove thai citizenship.

You’d be best to approach an NGO like this one to ask for assistance.

Thanks for that. As mention she has been here probably 10 years now but no proof of that.
