  1. I have questions about doing this....... Does the Thai made vehicle meet German standards for use on the German roads? Am I wrong but do German cars drive on the properbiggrin.png side of the road in Germany?

No domestic market pick up from Thailand will meet EU regs without modification.

    Which is very true.

However, for personal imports those rules can be waived, just like the type approval.

My idea would be to contact the customs in Germany, and the TUV.

Customs in Germany wil let you bring anything in from anywhere.

Registration however, is another matter altogether.

I have been dealing with TUV for more than 20 years and in fact paid for one of their staff to be based in Thailand for more than a year during 2008-2009 certifying cars for a European market.

it's a total waste of energy to bring a pick up from TH to Germany.

Check the price of an OEM heater with a/c unit first, which will surprise you. Then check the headlight price and the DPF and try and retro fit that as well.

    Forget it.

Just can second this opinion. Bringing a car from TH to DE like from DE to TH is just a waste of money and time. I was thinking about this topic some years ago too.

    Result: Forget it

  2. Just finished this procedure today.

Arrived at the airport as described above.

Yesterday I went to Jomtien immigration with

    Both passports with arrival card

Copies of the passports main pages

Copies of visa page, extension of stay, re-entry permit pages from the old passport

Copies of arrival card and arrival stamp from the new passport

Filled out form of 'Transfer Stamp to new passport'

    10 minutes waiting time

Today I picked the passports up with all stamps in the new passport, no waiting time, no fees.

  3. No problem just show both passports with old passport with to show re-entry permit in old passport on entry. Then a trip to immigration to transfer stamps to new passport.

Just did it in this way, last week. I got the entry stamp in the new passport, valid until the date, my extension of stay expires. The very polite immigration officer at the airport just informed me to do the 90-day-report, 90 days after my arrival.

I wasn't sure when to make the transfer of stamps. Are there any rules? Before of leaving the country again? For security reasons, I'll do it tomorrow wink.png

  4. Mike is a really nice guy.

He gave me excellent advises, what to buy and how to handle this and that, when I started smoking ECigs.

Feel free to call him (081-5785102) and he will tell you his address. He just doesn't want his address to be publish, because he hates bargaining with some groups of local people.

  5. German news sources report:

Police said that the investigation run at full speed and still would not jump to conclusions.

However, everything points to that it was not just an accident but a crime and the deceased had been thrown after his assassination of a moving vehicle on the road ... possibly by a hit-and-run fake.

An autopsy in the Police Forensic Institute should find out further details about the cause of death.

Maybe it isn't a later news, but just the translation of PattayaOne.

I was informed by email on Saturday early morning, by one of Hans' friends:

[...] At the evening of 5 April 2013, our friend Hans Künne became the victim of a tragic accident [...]

@all, please stop flaming here and show some respect to the bereaved.

  6. Let's stop the inappropriate speculations

It wasn't a pick-up, Hans was driving, it was an old Nissan wagon car. He was a pretty wild driver - even many of his friends refused to drive with him.

Madmax170, you seem to have the best information about this incident. Hans gave me one single lift and I can imagine very well, that Hans had an accident, since he was still driving much too fast in his age. As well, I can second, that Hans became confused easily when stressed.

Where was this accident and what happened further on? Did he try to walk home on the highway (He was walking straight and a lot)? Did another car crash him?

The seized car would explain, that he carried the log and bank book with him.

    RIP Hans

I guess the real facts of what happened has now come to light thanks to Madmax and KdRayong.

    RIP Hans

    Are you sure ?

You need to be close enough to really know if the car was confiscated and the mobile phone was found much later.

Even so, that the victim drove you with his own car somewhere...

They didn't provide details that they really knew the victim.

They only confirmed some facts of the crime.

Just imagine if they never knew the victim. Sad and sick...

Just imagine if I knew Hans as a close friend since years (even if I lost contact since a few month). Then I consider your post as sick and insolent. Sad just for me to read such a trash. bah.gif

I don't know who is MadMax. My read is that he was informed by the police after they found Hans' cellphone and checked the recent call log. He will be even a closer friend of Hans then.

  8. Forgot to mention ...

When you have a car and want to travel around with some sightseeing, drive to Ban Phe / Hat Mae Ramphueng Beach. Book your VR-trip some days in advance at Pattaya. Stay at Ban Phe over night and they will pick you up there at 7:30 am, a more convenient time. Around 1 pm you will be back and can enjoy another afternoon at the beach, before heading back to Ban Saen.

I asked the company about this matter and yes, they would do it. But sorry, no discount (1.8 kTHB is fix) wink.png

  9. As far as I understood, you will get a 90 day stamp on the land way as well (Multy entry visa?).

    If yes:

I'm in the same situation and just made a visa run. The physically fastest way from Bang Saen is the land border at Pong Nam Ron, close to Chantaburi. Since there is nothing special to see on the trip, except you intend to stay at Ban Phe's / Rayong's beaches for a night, I recommend to use a visa run company from Pattaya.

For 1.8 kTHB they picked me up in Pattaya at 6:30 am, short stop close to Klaeng. At the border, I just passed the Thai immigration in person, after that you'll just sit at a coffee shop for some minutes, where you can buy duty free goods. The Cambodian visa fee is included in the 1.8. On the way, they filled out the form already. A motorbike driver was taking all the passports with him and returned after a few minutes with the Cambodian visa inside. Back through the TH-immigration with ready filled out entry cards, they offered free water. On the way back another stop close to Klaeng, where they offered lunch. One free dish, one free drink and actually quite good food (I had duck with noodles and vegetables, just expected a soup or Kao pat before).

Back to Pattaya at 2pm, they drop you, where you want to be dropped.

No hassle at the boarder, a short trip on an air-conditioned minibus. Perfect for me, much better than to drive myself. Just 1800 THB, your passport and 2 pictures required. Since I don't want to make advertisement, for a VR-company, just send an PM, when you are interested, where I booked it. thumbsup.gif

  10. Thank you again for your profounded advices. Could you please help me again and let me know what you personally would do in my situation?

It was absolutely correct, that you need to have 800 kTHB in a saving account to apply for the retirement visa. I missed that just by 7 kTHB. Yes lopburi3, the fundbook from SCB is not accepted. (Well, actually it could be accepted if ... - plz let me know, if you are interested in details)

For now, I decided to visit Cambodia and will get another 90 days. That will be enough, regarding that I will return to Germany anyway in July. As I'm living in Thailand, I have two options now.

    (1) I will apply in Germany for another Non-Imm-O Visa. No problems about that. They will accept the fund book and it can be done easily by mail.

    (2) I will transfer from funds to saving account now, and will apply for the retirement visa, after I come back in August. This is what I prefer. But ... Can I feel safe to get one, since I'm 50+ and will have the 800 kTHB in my saving account for at least 3 months then? Can I return just to TH by the 30 days stamp and apply for the visa here? Will I face any disadvantages by this retirement visa, e.g. when buying a new car etc. where I needed a Non-Imm-O in the past?

From August, I might want to stay more than 90 days in TH again. The costs are roughly the same. What is your appreciated opinion?

  11. I've just been to Siam Commercial Bank. The accountant told me, that he has a customer with a fund book >800kTHB, who was denied by the immigration. Even if you are able transfer from fund book to savings within one day.

Me, I have a 1mTHB fund book as well, which was always accepted by the Thai consulate for the non-imm-o visa. In my saving accounts, I just have 750kTHB.

What is your opinion? Will they deny my visa extension at Jomtien? Will a combination of these accounts and chanots of condos in my name be sufficient?

  12. I have a Non-Immigrant-O Visa, based on retirement. It is issued by the Thai-Consulate in Stuttgart/Germany, expiring on May 20th. At May 15th my residence permit (the 90 day stamp) will expire. As I was always leaving the country earlier than 90 days until now, I never made a visa run or an visa-extension.

What will now be the most convenient way for me to proceed? (The costs should be roughly about the same)

    1. Travelling from Pattaya to Cambodia to obtain a new 90 days stamp? In July I will return to Germany anyway and can apply for a new visa. This can be even done via mail. In October and January I will be abroad from Thailand again. That's why I will just face this situation again in May 2013.
    2. Extending the visa here (Jomtien). In this case I would apply for multiple re-entry and assume, that I don't need a re-entry stamp each time, I'm leaving the kingdom.

As mentioned before, I'm not experienced in either of the two options. I'm living in Thailand, and have enough money in my account - other documents were never required by the consulate before.

    TIA for all your suggestions.
