  1. While Bangkok and the whole country as a whole has a lot of problems, I have to say I agree with the poll. At the moment, there's no place else I want to live in. I love it here!

And to those here on TV I know will take the opportunity to slag the city, I wish to remind you that you're an expat here and unless you're on the lam, you're here by choice.

Here by choice, yes, but not in Bangkok, and to say it is the "best" city in the world, just what world are there from.

  2. Seems like the mosquitos could be well educated, on a serious note, I know that Mukdahan hospitals are getting quite a few reported cases, but let's not forget, many cases go undiagnosed (many people are not given blood tests and are being told it is simply a "virus"), therefore not reported, many people think they have a cold/flu so do not attend a hospital/clinic. As for spraying, I guess the BIGGEST source of water is the paddies and they are NOT sprayed.

  3. The TV´s currently sold in Thailand, are not even prepared for digital TV. No MPEG4 tuner inside.

Wrong, some do have digital tuners, those without only need a set top box, I myself have 2 Panasonic TV's, HD 1080 resolution, deliberately bought them without digital tuners, why pay for something I can not use. Satellite tuner comes with HD tuner and when we do get, hopefully I'm still alive, free to air HD, I will buy a set top box. I am a telecommunications tech so I do know what I am talking about, a word of warning, it really is a waste of money paying more for 3D, word in the market is that is a flop, the only 3D content available is on Blueray DVD. Even in Australia...free to air experimented with #D, again mostly a flop. For 3D, go to the movies.... on TV's most people actually turn off 3D function.

  4. Give them a fine with warning, next time arrest them. There's literally a job available for everyone of these lazy scumbags, but the perks don't include sitting around with your mates, gambling, yelling out "taxi tuk tuk" and having alcohol before being asked to get off your ass for 30 minutes to drive someone 3 km's. Ther perks of a real job also don't provide for yellling at someone trying to park their car " no parking here", which many seem to get off on.

I think you are confusing legal and illegal taxis.

  5. Why didn't these illegal taxi drivers take the opportunity to become legal when it was offered in February this year and then extended until April, surely that was time enough. l

Simple answer there - they think they are above the law and simple regulations like having insurance and a decent clean car

How many illegal taxis have you used, I have used many and found them to be newer and cleaner than the legal ones, as well as being cheaper. Go the illegal taxis.

  6. The honda dream elitists are out in force again this morning, I thought it was a basic human right to protest if your unhappy. I applaud these guys bravery for bringing it to the attention of the governor, they are trying to get legal and abide by the law. At least they arent faceless keyboard warriors, if the farangs in Phuket are so unhappy then perhaps they should set up a honda dream protest outside the governors office. Im pretty sure he is not on TV so he cant read all your negative comments about the locals, you will need to see him in person.

It sounds like a lot of TV members would like to go back to a system like the British Raj where we could whip the locals into being subservient. Perhaps an end to the protest similar to Jallianwalla Bagh massacre would be more in your taste when the locals become restless and start gathering in the streets?

Dam_n Irish, you ANOTHER keyboard warrior. Granted, they have the right to protest, what I would is arrest them all, after all, they are breaking the law by being illegal...so easy to arrest, they are on the Gov's door step, but there is a problem, the Gov has NO balls, it is his inability to govern that allows so many illegal activities.

  7. I thought they had enough weopons in South Africa.

You can put it in your Checked luggage but I do not know if the South African customs will allow it. Australia will not.

Partly right, partly wrong... Australia allows a lot of swords AND knives...double sided weapons are definitely a no no, and so are some single edged knives, e.g. trench knives. I have taken a number of Japanese swords back, with NO problem, here's a hint, declare them, even though they are legal, the reason being, you are taken out of the normal immigration line, to your very own personal one, you actually get out quicker.

  8. Just take away the income from the fishing industry and they will find another income, maybe PIRACY. Thefuture might be bright and we have another area of piracy and sea lanes patrol on our hands. Thank you USA, you are so smart.clap2.gif

You forget the Loyal, Honest and Professional Royal Thai Navy will deal with the pirates. oops, I forgot, they are busy running their own slave trading ring.

  9. The health ministry set up the meeting after Thailand's government asked it to address concerns about the financial burden on the country's state hospitals, which are required to provide foreigners with free medical service, Pradit said.

Free medical services for foreigners at state hospitals.... when did that start then?

That is just a big fat lie..... I can go to the public hospitals and get treatment at the same rate as the thai people I guess.i.e. I pay a quite low charge In my case they checked my heart with different machines and checked the rythm and i paid something like 200 baht only... But free - no way

    Glegolo

Yes that has been my experience too (I paid the same as locals, although for emergency care they have the 30 Baht card) but private hospitals are expensive. Medicines are almost always the most expensive part of going to a hospital here - the doctor's fee may only be 200 Baht or something (even in a private hospital it may not be that much either) but then don't be surprised if you end up paying 1000 Baht or more just for 3-4 packets of pills half of which you might not need anyway.

So true about the pills, recently I had a persistent cough, so, under pressure from the good wife, love her to bits, off the hospital, now I know in Australia I would have been given a course on antibiotics, here, I get antibiotics and 4 other pills cough suppressant pill, expectorant pill, anti-allergy pill and an anti cold pill. Money money money.

  10. rolleyes.gif Of course if I DON'T use the health insurance the cost will be refunded on my departure, correct?

    Not likely.

    Just another tourist scam.

does you car insurance get refunded if you dont drive your car or your household insurance get refunded if you dont get broken into ?....so cant see how this is a scam

I think the difference here is YOU choose car and house insurance , this "tourist" insurance is forced upon you, so yes, if NOT used, it should be refunded, this would also STOP it falling into the hands of the corrupt.

  11. I'd believe this ONLY if it was conducted by the World health Org, for some very strange reason, I can not trust or believe any Thai results, done by Thais or figures released by Thais. Mmmm another thought, what are the chances that all the samples, if indeed some were taken, were taken from the same, know safe, site. Sorry, but too much corruption and too many lies to believe anything we are told or lead to believe in Thaliand, that doesn't mean I don't like living here.

  12. Here here to mandatory insurance. When I worked in the hotel trade here the amount of our guests who didn't have either and, when the sh*t hit the fan, seemed to feel that it was the both the hotel's and Thailand's responsibility to dig them out of situation they found themselves in at no cost to themselves.

I just returned from a trip home and the all singing and dancing travel insurance price was negligible.

Basically if you're dumb enough to travel without insurance you'd do the world a favour by staying at home.

With your attitude I wouldn't want to stay at any Hotel you worked at...by the way, If mandatory health insurance is implemented, it could dissuade some tourists coming to Thailand, another nail in the coffin.

  13. As others have suggested, hearing aid or rely on vibrate and earphones (Bluetooth or wired), besides, no one else wants to hear you loud ring or your conversation, please think about others. If you really need a louder ring, get an Android based smart phone, download the ring you want, from the phone, onto a computer or create your own ring tone, then using software, a free one is Audacity, you can increase its volume, once you are happy with it save it as an MP3 then upload it to you phones Ring tone folder. You can do this for both ring tones and notification tones. e.g. mail

  14. Oh no, Tech is coming to town. Next thing that could happen is a camera system at every stop light. If you run it the ticket will be in the mail. The no tolerance system is sweeping the world. Can't an honest crook get away with anything now-a-days?

A few months ago they were sprouting on about a "new" app they created, so the police could take a photo, with their "smart" phone, and send it to other officers on point duty, to enable them to monitor traffic...when reported in Phuket Wan, I commented what a waste, it is the police that cause more congestion and it is the police that ignore offenders, those of you who know Phuket Wan, would know the type of comment I got from Ed.....well, I have yet to see the phones in use, to take photos.
