There are some Mail Box places that give you an address that looks like the real thing. Instead of a PO Box they'll use an Apt. No.
I don't do it but have friends who do.

Nice to see that there are other foreigners make an effort to read something besides hanging in the bars.
Love to read in a bar, Does that offend you?

You buy your Cambodian Visa same as if you were going to stay. And, immediately cross back to Thailand.

1900 baht for 13 people to eat and drink?? Did the 'restaurant' have walls?
Why are walls necessary, my favorite restaurant is a garden. Typical price for a buffet style dinner.

Stick with the sandwiches and mini hotdogs. Life is good.

When on a road trip, 7-11 food hits the spot.

Everything, You need to get out more often.
Motorbikes, Vehicles, Insurance, furniture, Makro prices, clothes in markets?? Same - Same
The only reason it may be cheaper in Issan is if you stay away from town.

We will be living at her brothers house (real brother) until our house is built, and with appropriate health insurance. In Issan.
It is true that you need more money if you choose to live in Bangkok, Pattaya, or Phuket but in Issan figures such a 100,000 baht a month are ludicrous. In my opinion.
Besides rent or price to buy a house, a tall Leo, what is so much cheaper in Issan?

Maybe the best thing to do is to downsize and stay in the US but share it with Thai women who will appreciate it all and not be like a spoiled American Woman.
Give her time, Give her time.

Where did I say what I feed myself? I probably have the experience enough to give my daugther the food she need. Don´t think you have to worry in that case.
Can be that you don´t have any children and are just nosey by nature. However, what I give my daugther is not relevant in this topic, so just put a plug in it if you don´t have something useful to say.Yeah, have a little girl as well. You made it relevant when you brought yours into the picture. If only useful remarks were posted, these threads would die sooner.

Ok! It´s not a full meal. It´s still more food than you get in a hot dog. 5 bath Khao Neo and a barbecued stick of pork.
In that case I dream every time I go to the market morning, to buy food for my 4 year old daugther.
I sincerely think you are dreaming, or maby just not took the time to get to know things in this country. Good Luck!I hope for your daughter's sake you feed her better than you do yourself.

Some deeply disturbed folks posting here. Not all Thais fall into the stereo-typical category.

We hit up Makro once or twice a week for meats and veggies. Seafood and chicken fresher and better looking there than the markets. Sometimes fish from market for BBQ. Never go to Tops for anything other than a few specific farang condiments. Makro has pretty much everything including some good fruits. I couldn't even give a monthly budget for food, we just eat good.

Give it time and you won't care anymore.

The plastic bags are great for small trash can liners. Plus they make the morning trash fire blaze.

I see, so it's about high and low...
I have a nice couch for sitting but our guests (Thai) like to sit on the floor with their back against the sofa. Then they push the sofa against the steel windowbars so the leather gets damaged. Also they let their kids jump on the sofa and even when they tell her to stop it the kid won't listen at all and keeps on jumping. It's a lazyboy so it really annoys me...
Also the lazyboy recliner, they like to sit on it with 2 or 3 people together, it's not designed for that and the rocking mechanism will damage from it. I told them about it but next time they do it again.
Or they put their purses/bags on my leather lazyboy, i don't like that but warning them doesn't help at all.
When people sit on the floor i always step over them with my size 13. I'm very tall so it's easy for me, they have never told me to not do that.
When i'm eating in a restaurant i don't like to see soles of feet, clean or not for me they are all dirty.
In the skytrain i also see Thai with their bare feet on the chairs and even picking their feet between the toe's...after that they pick their nose again or squeeze a pimple...brrrrr.
Also some shops (like my motobike dealer) want their customers to take their shoe's off when entering the showroom. I always forget it and also think it's dirty to walk there on bare feet. Their dogs also walk there and also don't take their shoe's off.
The very reason I haven't replaced our old sofa.

1st morning in Baloy Beach, found a better full English breakfast than anything I have managed to find during 2 months in CM (240 peso and more than I could eat).
2nd evening a little street restaurant outside 7/11 on Baloy Beach road corner, a great local dish pork adobo, chunks of lean pork and potato in gravy served with rice (65 peso).
4th day, British fish and chip restaurant, Cornish pasties, meat pies, nothing like it in CM, meat pies here are 95% gravy (pastie and chips 180 peso).
6th evening, Mexican restaurant, really good meal for two with carafe of house red wine 750 pesos. More than we could finish. Tried 3 Mex places in CM, all total s*&%.
My only 'food' complaint, not one decent coffee bar, coffee was total c$%#.
Don't know where your pals are eating, maybe they don't look around all that much. If I'd been there longer, I'm confident I would have found many more good places to eat.
Why is fruit in Thailand so overpriced? Bananas and Strawberries are about half the price in central London.
Were you at Blue Rock when the owner the owner was murdered? Kinda funny that you judge a country by a breakfast you had. I've been in Thailand for awhile now and have spent much time in Olongapo on Merchant ships. Thailand is much better over all.
