  1. I recently bought 2 lovebirds from a shop. They are finally calm in their cage at my home. I'd like to teach them to perch on my finger, and allow me to touch them. They spent a lot of time in a large cage with other birds in a noisy shop. Any suggestions for me?
  2. Every Thai person I've talked to that has returned to Pattaya from their home villages and towns have all told me the same thing. Those areas are full of actively ill Covid patients. Vaccinations are not readily available and people are not getting their second or booster vaccinations in a timely manner. Those people that have returned here after getting vaccinated are working again. But more needs to be done in the rural parts of Thailand before more people die. Vaccinate and mask mask mask.
  3. I suggested years ago on this forum that, rather than fight the prevailing winds, it's better to embrace it and profit from it. Thailand wants more tourism from 'high spenders'. Why would those people with big cash to spend come here with all of the substandard things here. Roads, inconsistent water, electric, and internet infrastructure. TRUE, many of these things have improved over the years, but simply looking at the wires above streets indicates the amount of distance that still remains to be improved. Here's a novel idea, legalized things here just as Amsterdam does. It encourages tourism, and brings in tourist money. Create controlled zones for "Coffee Houses" for selling and smoking ganja. Open organized prostitution zones, and limit those 'vices' to specific areas, away from the Beach road and Walking Street where all the tourists with families go. Put it all on Soi Bukhao, or some other area that is currently under utilized. So legal in specific areas, but illegal and thus revenue producing for the police in other areas, AND when driving under the influence. To facilitate this, perhaps the Songtaew routes could be expanded to include Third Road. BTW, there's a huge empty lot about 500 meters north of Pattaya Klang on Third Road. Several large buildings that could serve as dance clubs or bars already exist in that area. Embrace the trends and profit from it. Pattaya could become the Amsterdam of SE Asia and generate lots of money and jobs!
  4. In my experience having had the pipe changed from the engine to the exhaust piece, there may be a leak in the welded seal. I'd suggest taking it to any of the many shop around that work on exhausts for cars. They also work on motorbikes. Start the engine up and ask if they can help. They may simply be able to re-weld the connection OR they may want to sell you a new metal piece. Make sure you have them agree that if the new piece does not solve the problem, you don't want to pay for it. Good luck with that!
  5. I'm pretty sure that under Thai law any bank account that has no activity for one year is subject to closure and confiscation by the bank. I know this because 3 years ago a friend of mine from Chiang Mai went home to the US for a vacation and died of a heart attack while there. A year later, since his account had no activity for a full year, the bank sent a letter to the address on file indicating as much. I gave that info to his daughter and her attorney in the US to follow up on as there was slightly over 1,000,000 baht in the account. I sent them a scan of the letter. I cautioned them that time was short and they should move quickly and recommended a CM based lawyer to help them with the Probate issues here. It then occurred to me that if I simply deposited 100 baht into the account it would show as 'activity' and therefore bought them another year to deal with it. I've no clue as to what they ever did about it. But that letter from the bank was clear and direct, written in English! My suggestion to this subject poster is to contact your bank AT ONCE!
  6. There's a shop called Meat Stuff. British butcher. Located on a side soi on one of the roads between South Pattaya Road and Thepprasit Road. Google it. Here's the contact info: 095-456-3421 62, 147 Thep Prasit 8 Alley, Pattaya City, Amphoe Bang Lamung, Chon Buri 20150 https://meatstuff.business.site/
  7. Depends on who your phone carrier is. I use AIS. I Last time I bought a new phone it was an iPhone. I went to their office in Central Festival Center. They have a device they plug into your old phone, and then plug into your new phone and transfers all info, (pics, contacts, etc.). But I don't think they copy the apps. You need to download those to your new phone and sign in with your existing password. They are able to go from Android to iOS, and iOS to iOS. Probably Android to Android too. For me it was a bit different as at that time I had a Windows Nokia phone. The device at Central Festival did not work with that OS. I had to drive to their office in Sri Racha because their device had that feature. I don't think that'll be an issue for you now. Just take it to your phone company (AIS, TRUE, DTAC), and ask them if they are able to transfer things for you. If none of this works for you, try RUN Phone Service, behind TukCom. It's a shop on the right side as you go past the TukCom building. Big sign that says RUN PHONE SERVICE. Very nice, knowledgeable, fair pricing, and she speaks great English.
  8. Of course it makes no sense. TIT. (This Is Thailand).
  9. The offer of 30 Million Baht as a settlement seems odd and does make one wonder what the motivation is behind that. That said, since she is probably Buddhist, she won't be 'buried'. She'll have her funeral and cremation. Once a cremation is done there will be no additional chemical or scientific testing that could be done. Her demise is so sad and she is sorely missed by many Thai people.
  10. All of the advice above is good! If you are stuck for any reasons, on paper SELL the car to your wife or In laws. Have the Bill of Sale arranged for and notarized by a local attorney. It won't cost much. Then they can prove their ownership as that last payment is finally made on the car. Take the paperwork to Honda Leasing prior to the last payment, so that they have time to prepare the names correctly on the Blue book. The cars Blue book can then be put into their name, and since you trust them all, there should be no issue. Especially since you plan to allow them to keep the car anyway!
  11. I used to do export work from China. I have friends in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Shanghai. One has told me that they've not even had 1 vaccination shot to date. This was as of yesterday. The number of cases and deaths that China announces should be viewed with skepticism. I'm not sure what all of this means, but something is going to hit the fan at some point soon!
  12. Dengue Fever doesn't seem like much of a problem here, UNLESS you know someone infected with it. My neighbor, a very nice 78 year old French person died of this about 4 years ago. He had a lot of energy and a zest for life. I miss him. But he was the type of person that didn't like to take others advice, doctors included. He went to BKK Pattaya Hospital, was diagnosed and they wanted him to stay there for a few nights. His house was in the middle of a remodel and he wanted to be near to it to oversee things. He stayed at a small hotel on our Soi. I told him he should follow the doctors advice, but he didn't. The next night at 9pm he called a friend of his to take him to the hospital as he wasn't feeling well. He died that night. OK, it's a long story that only affects a few people that knew him, and the same for the other few people that die of it. But it's a serious disease and can be fatal. Spray for mosquitos, cover your arms, don't sleep with windows open without mosquito screens!
  13. I never count on anything that any government official says here. There are two many changes, cancellations, revisions, and the like just days later. I read reputable sites online and continue to wear a good mask (N95 or N95) when around ANY people. I act in a manner I refer to as socially considerate. Can't be too safe with Covid. It's not going away, it continues to mutate, and I don't want to be responsible for passing it along thru others to some older person who just dies from it. If wearing a mask is so unbearable for you, try having an intubation tube down your throat while hospitalized. Man up and just do the responsible thing! Either way, when I am walking in a mall or at Big C and see improperly masked (nose not covered) people walking towards me, I move as far away from them as I can. And I give them 'the look'. They mostly are other farangs doing this. But I've stopped trying to reason with them thru conversation. You can't cure stupid and they get so defensive and aggressive that I'd rather not engage with willfully ignorant and inconsiderate people.
  14. My first 2 vaccinations we AZ. I read on reputable British sites about which boosters were most effective, Pfizer or Moderna. Winner: Moderna without a doubt. If as a booster you choose Pfizer, your T-Cell count goes up 25 fold (25 times). Your Antibody production increases by 62%. The Pfizer booster shot was/is available for free. If you choose Moderna as the booster, your T-Cell count increases 37 fold (37 times). Your Antibody production increases 87%. By far the better choice. So I went to Pattaya Memorial and on Wednesdays and Thursdays they offer Moderna booster shots for 1,650 Bt. WORTH IT. All that said, I still got a breakthrough cases about a month after my booster. It was like a headcold, nothing severe at all. Slight cough to begin with. Couple days later fever of 37.5C for 2 days, then spiked to 39C for 1 day. I drank lots of water, took Paracetemol (SaRa Brand just 13 bt for 10 pills at every 7-11) 3 times a day, 2 pills at a time. Was fine after a week from the beginning of the fever. Stay home and isolated a total of 12 days. Now I have natural immunity too. Take MODERNA as the Booster if your first shots were AstraZeneca.
  15. Here in Pattaya, I've always found Russian people to be rude, ill mannered, abrasive and unfriendly to non-Russians. That said, I would hate to see these people end up homeless and out on the street. One thought that occurs to me is that street crime would go up. Another thought is that their own government really doesn't care about them, and for this fact alone, I feel pity for them. Time will reveal their fate!
  16. I've had both, and am currently using Pacific Cross. They refuse payouts on claims regularly. I have an appointment to see my agent later this week. I reviewed the claim with her PRIOR to submitting it and they still refused it. Standard practice for ALL insurance companies worldwide. Give them enough pressure, argue, ask to speak to supervisor, etc. PRESSURE is what works with these idiots. Take the lower cost policy as it's always the same with every insurance company.
  17. I've never had the need to see a Urologist, thank god. But in general, I think the best medical services and doctors is at RAM Hospital. I see BKK Hospital as more concerned with money, rather than patients.
  18. I get mine delivered to my townhouse door on Tuesdays and Fridays, off of Pattaya Tai. It's 45 baht for big bottle that would fit on a dispenser (not included). Deposit was about that same amount. Good quality water, consistent service. Phone: 086 830 5637 I have no idea it they speak English, but I would expect so!
  19. It was announced earlier this week that members of the US military that refuse to take the vaccine will be removed from the military. Problem solved!
  20. Many other countries are vaccinating their youngsters. But excluding China, not one of them has used a Chinese vaccine. These are not the most effective vaccines. Why use an inferior medicine when far superior ones are readily available?
  21. I've always considered 'old' to be my age plus 15 years.
  22. Try Gulatis on Sukhumvit, Near the corner of Soi 3. Great quality, suits last forever!
  23. If Thai officials believe that China lent them the money for this train line without expecting to gain from it themselves, then those people are foolish. Be forewarned, the Chinese don't care about Thais or any other country that their Belt and Road program is in. AND please remember that while Thailand may want to send fruit and agriculture products to China, China will be in a position to send Chinese troops to enforce their goals. Don't trust China! It's dangerous for your country, any country, this country.
  24. If you think that tourists are attracted to a 3rd world location with a veneer coat of 2nd world appeal, then you are severely out of step with reality. There is poor and unreliable electricity, inconsistent water supply, and poor cable TV channel viewing to be had here. And complaints to the police go nowhere. And these are the high points. Shopping at over priced, or simply the same prices as what you'd pay at home shops, is NOT a magnet for tourists. Pattaya and Thailand used to be a good value, and brought in people in huge and increasing numbers over the years. But era ended 3-5 years ago, before Covid. Except for Thai families coming to escape BKK, I don't believe that the number of visitors will return to the pre-Covid levels for a decade or more. My advice for the planners of this city are simple. Become the Amsterdam of SE Asia. Promote an adult adventure, not a family one. Open casinos, promote a well maintained Red Light district, and openly allow for legal 420 activities. If you are looking to make big money here, promote what the people enjoy. Give them what they want and they will flock here. To quote a movie, "If you build it, they will come".
  25. If you go to their website, you'll see at the bottom of a page a link in English. "Drain Service". Click on that link and the page has lots of info in English.
