  1. The main thing i understood from here is that many people are confused and there are so many different cases. I feel overwhelmed sometimes!!

To be honest there hasn't been a time that I went to the immigration and the documents of the year before were enough. Every year there has been one of few more documents to add. No big deal but frustrating at times.

  2. My Farang friend went to Immigration near Airport. Got fined 800b.

So they called to Promenada Imm. and received different answers to all the questions you guys have posted.

One office say one thing the other says different.

Along with another Farang friend and his wife, they all went to Promenada. The thai wifes asked two different staff and not the same answers.at the same office.

Ok they started over and went to the head man running the office.

In my original post is what he told them...

    No fine for now.

Yellow book does not exempt you from filing.

You leave the country (border run) you file again.

I have heard of owning a condo and renting a house in another town.....maybe they ask the landlord to not file that they will do at their condo...?

This is a new question that Immigration may have to answer like at the Expats club?

That would be a lot of paper work doing that many times...and wasted time for both parties....

I filed with my thai wife at Promenada, TM 30 form, copy passport, front page, and visa, arrival card n stamp. Plus I had copy of yellow book. They wanted the wifes house book but they took mine. Took about 10 minutes...

T.M.30 is about the Thai owner of the property not the renter....

I am not sure if you feel the same but It sounds very confusing to me. Definitely the law should be clarified and explained!!!

  3. I just called the Immigration for confirmation, and they told me that since the house contract is signed by my wife, she is basically responsible of reporting me within 24 hours and not the owner of the house.

Interesting. So what would be the case if you had signed the rental agreement, have to report yourself?

I just asked to the immigration. In this case the owner of the house would have to report you!

    It's nuts isn't it!

Is it your responsibility to tell the owner of the house when you are going to stay somewhere else for x nights and when you return so he/she can make those reports? By post,in person? Does not sound too practical?

I think he can use on online form. Well, unfortunately I just learned about this policy when i had to pay the fine.

  5. According to Promenada Immigration: Owner of land - house has to use form T.M.30 to report Alien living there. Does not have to report where u are in Thailand as hotel..Resort where you are staying does this.

If foreigner leaves Thailand, comes back stays in say.. BKK for a few days(hotel reports) and comes back to his residence. Owner has to file TM30 within 24 hours. You do not have to tell them when you are leaving Thailand, as they know this at airport IMM.

Sept. 2015 they started enforcing the Law again. Many people do not know this. And if your Thai wife owns the land and house, she has to file the form TM30. Or if you are renting, the landlord has to..

If you go to Immigration near Airport, they will fine you. Go to Promanada IMM. and they will not. Maybe they are giving some lead-way until all have signed up the first time.??

If you go to visit friends in Thailand to stay a few days( Thai or Farang) they are supposed to report it also...not sure how they would know this one...

However if a friend has come to TH to visit you and stays at your house, you need to report that (TM30) within 24 hours.

we are renting but the house contract is signed by my wife. That's why she had to report me within 24 hours, according to the immigration.

Nope, as a renter she has no obligations to report anything to anyone.

If anyone is at fault, it's the landlord.

Wonder what would have happened if she had told them to 'do one'.

Not entirely correct based on all the reports in the Visa forum. One of the classes of who are required to report is 'the possessor' which would be the renter. The argument of the landlord being solely responsible has shown to not be the case. This has only been recently enforced vigorously even though the law has been on the books for a long time. So not having had to do it for 5 years has no bearing on the current situation.

Sure, I am not excusing myself just because i did not do it the last 5 years. I just thought that it must have been only lately enforced.

I have no problem to comply with the law, however it just felt weird that my wife had to report me!

  8. I believe there is a communication problem or the OP misunderstood. The requirement is not to report that they have left but to report when they return and have been gone for more then 24 hours. Lots of information on the TM28/TM30 in the Visa forum.

There could be a misunderstanding on my part because I could not understand Thai and my wife could have also misunderstood. However this is the first time it happened to me, in 5 years that I am in Chiang mai.

  9. Sounds like a scam.

If you leave the country, departure immigration report you leaving.

If you stay in a hotel elsewhere in Thailand, they are responsible for reporting.

That's exactly what happened. The border immigration reported me and the hotel as well. But they said that also my wife should have reported me for leaving home in Chiang mai and she should have given details of my travel in the online form.

  10. I hope this could help many people and if I am missing out any details, perhaps others could add.

I just went to immigration and did my one year spouse visa and everything was fine. Few days later my wife received a call from immigration saying that she committed a felony by not reporting me while I went out of the country and stayed one night at a hotel outside of Chiang mai (by the way, this is the first time that happened to me in 5 years since I have been travelling around a lot but never had to do this). It might be our fault that we did not know this policy and so we got fined of 2000 baht. It was explained to us that if the Thai wife signed the rental agreement where both live, she is responsible for notifying every movement of her husband. Eg. if husband and wife go for a one night vacation to Chiang rai, she has to notify that to immigration using an online form so that they would know where the "alien" is going.

And yes, the form my wife had to fill in was called something like; "reporting the Alien living in your home".

By the way, it seems that the law was there since a few years but never been enforced. Because of the bombing in Bkk things have changed!!

  11. Hi to all

I am trying to arrange a meeting for all cyclists interested in showing their awareness on air pollution, and meet at ta pae gate on Friday night 13th at 7:30. We would slowly cycle around town and wear a white t-shirt with written something like "stop burning" or similar things.

If you are interested please join in!

It's a good time to make more friends if you like!

    Let me know!

    Thank you

  12. I drove from Chiang mai to Buriram till the border with Cambodia and the whole area was somehow on fire. It must have been a 500 square km of burning forests and fields. This is serious matter and an attack to human health and nature. Once the UN or any other intergovernmental bodies would fine 10 billion baht the government of Thailand for creating such a disaster then maybe they will start thinking how to resolve this problem.

There must be incentives or suitable options to stop this. If they'll tell people to just stop they won't care.

  13. I think there is no single answer and for sure thai people cycle because; it's a fashion, they like the sport, it's easier to socialise with others etc.

I am a cyclist myself and I do wear lycra for the advantages it has. I don't understand what is the problem with it!

As somebody mentioned though, not many thai people use bikes to commute! I wish there could be more of it and less cars around!

  14. Totally agree!!

People get around problems because they are allowed to do so...... at a price!

To be honest, even though I am married with thai and always had work permit, I always felt as a permanent tourist!

If Immigration wanted to stop any abuse they could? I see the whole Visa thing as a tidy little earner for Thailand.

What I find amazing is that if I get married and have kids in Thailand, I will never be allowed to live in Thailand with no restrictions.

Whereas, if my future Thai family wanted to live in the UK, after a period and a certain amount of hurdles, they could live in the UK unrestricted the same as a UK citizen.

I find it astonishing you can never live here with your Thai family with no restrictions!

Unless, you are one of the holy 100.... if that's still available....I don't think a mere mortal like myself could ever reach those heights!

  15. I bought a bike at Jack and that was easy. Like it has been said, he has a good array of parts as well even though only shimano and bontrager. The difficult part was communication! At the beginning before i bought the bike they seemed very disinterested in me and almost rude but after the purchase they were a bit better. I bought most of my bikes at chaitawat and repaired them there as well. He can speak some decent English and he knows how to deal with customers. The mechanic is good as well. Other bicycle shops I am not sure.

  16. There is one shop which has only saa paper in front of Vieng Joom on tea house on the road where there is Riverside restaurant. From Riverside drive toward nakorn ping bridge. After about 300 m from Riverside there is the pink tea house and opposite there is the saa paper shop. The owner manufacture the paper by itself and can provide large quantities.

  17. tell us again what documents u have?

most important is the green book.....also whose name is listed as the current owner in the book

the thai owner is on the book

the thai guy or your buddy?.......do u have a signed copy of the owners ID?

yes i have the signed copy of owner id

there should be 2 sheets of a4...one is the transfer document and the other is the power of attorney

    i have these 2 sheets

    if present are these signed?

They are signed by my friend and the shop owner i guess

  18. He should have an ownership transfer document that is signed by the previous owner, along with a signed copy of the previous onwer's ID card, as well as the green registration booklet.

With that you can transfer it to anyone's nameI think? (Someone pls. confirm)

    Suggest you do that asap.

yes exactly, I have these documents. There is this paper that you mentioned with the Thai owner name and his ID and my friend name that bought the bike last.
