  1. Roads ain't playgrounds for Lycra Clowns

    Go

Play in the Forrest n Tracks like we did as Kids

The cyclists in Chiang Mai are quite disciplined and seldom give any trouble on the road. Contrary, all the motorized vehicles are the problem. In fact most clowns are in this category. Very often car drivers have no respect for cyclists and cut in front of them. The cyclists that give problem on the roads are often tourists.

  2. Good luck guys hang on there it's just another month or so. Don't understand why nobody is protesting , by phone, mail, feets on the street. Instead of just looking out of the window like a cow who will get butchered next.

    Totally agree!!!

But perhaps there should be at least a few hundreds people to make local authorities concerned!!

So u wait like everybody does? At least sign the above petition letter (link) it's a start. Sent emails, call local government. Just don't sit.

Things does not resolve if one person complain but if a few hundreds or thousands go down the streets perhaps it could have an impact.

I am a biologist and I work in forest conservation. I act everyday with my work. I am skeptical of internet demonstrations. Going to the streets would be better but it needs support!!

  4. Today must be the worst day so far. All my usual landmarks are barely visible. Visibility must be about 1km. I cycle from the 700 year stadium to Huay Tung Tau regularly. the track through the forest at the base of the mountain. That area has been burned to a crisp on many different days. It must only benefit a very small number of people. The people who run HTT are pro burning but they think it tidys the place up. It looks very ugly and is totally unnecessary.

A few weeks ago I went to HTT and I noticed the burnt fields inside the area and I asked explanation at the ticket counter. They said that the fire came from outside. Total BS since there was no burnt vegetation beyond that area and the burnt area was square properly managed to stop where they wanted. Its just ridiculous....there is no education and no willingness to change things.

  5. For the past few years I have heard the same things but then for songkran nothing changed. Somebody complained about losing money and everything just went as usual. This is a time where we got to be responsible but we still can enjoy. If people would follow the local tradition then we would throw less water. So they don't need to cancel the water throwing but they should educate people to do it differently or old fashioned!!

  6. Hi all

I understand that this topic just repeats yearly without any real benefits or any real action, but i wanted to share a document from WHO where you could read about recommended values for PM10 and PM2.5

The air is extremely unhealthy and it is a serious matter especially for kids and elderly, but with these levels it is arduous for everybody.

Today the pm10 and pm2.5 is averaging about 100 and 90 micrograms per cm3 respectively!

Who can head south is lucky but the others should take precautions!

  7. I don't understand what's the hate for cyclists!

Do you think we should stay in line and breath all the axaust? You should just be thankful to have somebody that instead of clogging the traffic and pollute, just ride a bicycle. Talking of bad driving.....how about cars, songteos, motorbikes and tuktuks. Bicycles are the least of the problem.

  8. The number of people at the airport as compared to number of people enjoying Loy Krathong makes me think the consensus goes with the lanterns and Loy Krathong. People shouild be out enjoying Loy Krathong not flying about in airplanes.

I think it is time to act more responsibly while still enjoy a festivity. Many people just don't care about anything besides entertainment. Look at the rivers this morning!!! Full of plastics, and all other foreign remains floating. I think people should be more responsible and don't just say: "well, it's loy kratong" or whatever festivity.

  9. Still knocking G4t but were cheaper and easier to use

We need G4T back in business

No, what we want is for everybody to be able to turn up at immigration, in office hours & get their visa business sorted without having to pay some "third" party to "jump" the queue for them. How hard is it to photocopy the correct papers, fill in a form & have your photo taken at one of several hundred photo shops around town?

And also I would love if the I/O's would learn how to use a computer and store my data so that every time I don't need to do all the paper work again, to prove that I am married....again, to prove that I have a child....again. It is just a mess and nobody really cares.

  10. The main thing i understood from here is that many people are confused and there are so many different cases. I feel overwhelmed sometimes!!

To be honest there hasn't been a time that I went to the immigration and the documents of the year before were enough. Every year there has been one of few more documents to add. No big deal but frustrating at times.

  11. My Farang friend went to Immigration near Airport. Got fined 800b.

So they called to Promenada Imm. and received different answers to all the questions you guys have posted.

One office say one thing the other says different.

Along with another Farang friend and his wife, they all went to Promenada. The thai wifes asked two different staff and not the same answers.at the same office.

Ok they started over and went to the head man running the office.

In my original post is what he told them...

    No fine for now.

Yellow book does not exempt you from filing.

You leave the country (border run) you file again.

I have heard of owning a condo and renting a house in another town.....maybe they ask the landlord to not file that they will do at their condo...?

This is a new question that Immigration may have to answer like at the Expats club?

That would be a lot of paper work doing that many times...and wasted time for both parties....

I filed with my thai wife at Promenada, TM 30 form, copy passport, front page, and visa, arrival card n stamp. Plus I had copy of yellow book. They wanted the wifes house book but they took mine. Took about 10 minutes...

T.M.30 is about the Thai owner of the property not the renter....

I am not sure if you feel the same but It sounds very confusing to me. Definitely the law should be clarified and explained!!!

  12. I just called the Immigration for confirmation, and they told me that since the house contract is signed by my wife, she is basically responsible of reporting me within 24 hours and not the owner of the house.

Interesting. So what would be the case if you had signed the rental agreement, have to report yourself?

I just asked to the immigration. In this case the owner of the house would have to report you!

    It's nuts isn't it!

Is it your responsibility to tell the owner of the house when you are going to stay somewhere else for x nights and when you return so he/she can make those reports? By post,in person? Does not sound too practical?

I think he can use on online form. Well, unfortunately I just learned about this policy when i had to pay the fine.

  14. According to Promenada Immigration: Owner of land - house has to use form T.M.30 to report Alien living there. Does not have to report where u are in Thailand as hotel..Resort where you are staying does this.

If foreigner leaves Thailand, comes back stays in say.. BKK for a few days(hotel reports) and comes back to his residence. Owner has to file TM30 within 24 hours. You do not have to tell them when you are leaving Thailand, as they know this at airport IMM.

Sept. 2015 they started enforcing the Law again. Many people do not know this. And if your Thai wife owns the land and house, she has to file the form TM30. Or if you are renting, the landlord has to..

If you go to Immigration near Airport, they will fine you. Go to Promanada IMM. and they will not. Maybe they are giving some lead-way until all have signed up the first time.??

If you go to visit friends in Thailand to stay a few days( Thai or Farang) they are supposed to report it also...not sure how they would know this one...

However if a friend has come to TH to visit you and stays at your house, you need to report that (TM30) within 24 hours.

we are renting but the house contract is signed by my wife. That's why she had to report me within 24 hours, according to the immigration.

Nope, as a renter she has no obligations to report anything to anyone.

If anyone is at fault, it's the landlord.

Wonder what would have happened if she had told them to 'do one'.

Not entirely correct based on all the reports in the Visa forum. One of the classes of who are required to report is 'the possessor' which would be the renter. The argument of the landlord being solely responsible has shown to not be the case. This has only been recently enforced vigorously even though the law has been on the books for a long time. So not having had to do it for 5 years has no bearing on the current situation.

Sure, I am not excusing myself just because i did not do it the last 5 years. I just thought that it must have been only lately enforced.

I have no problem to comply with the law, however it just felt weird that my wife had to report me!
