I was told that cars still on finance would not be allowed. The drive from the border to Siam reap takes about 2 1/2 hours, its about 185 km. The road is mostly in good conditions unless they are making a new tarmac. Be careful of crossing cows!!!

I usually go and sleep at BKK one night before to travel to the border. This way it takes 7 hours drive the first day and another 7-8 hours the second day. Go and back its about 2600 km

Nice report but a question. A car passport is only required between Thailand and Lao not Thailand and Cambodia.

According to Promenada Immigration: Owner of land - house has to use form T.M.30 to report Alien living there. Does not have to report where u are in Thailand as hotel..Resort where you are staying does this.

If foreigner leaves Thailand, comes back stays in say.. BKK for a few days(hotel reports) and comes back to his residence. Owner has to file TM30 within 24 hours. You do not have to tell them when you are leaving Thailand, as they know this at airport IMM.

Sept. 2015 they started enforcing the Law again. Many people do not know this. And if your Thai wife owns the land and house, she has to file the form TM30. Or if you are renting, the landlord has to..

If you go to Immigration near Airport, they will fine you. Go to Promanada IMM. and they will not. Maybe they are giving some lead-way until all have signed up the first time.??

If you go to visit friends in Thailand to stay a few days( Thai or Farang) they are supposed to report it also...not sure how they would know this one...

However if a friend has come to TH to visit you and stays at your house, you need to report that (TM30) within 24 hours.

we are renting but the house contract is signed by my wife. That's why she had to report me within 24 hours, according to the immigration.

I believe there is a communication problem or the OP misunderstood. The requirement is not to report that they have left but to report when they return and have been gone for more then 24 hours. Lots of information on the TM28/TM30 in the Visa forum.

There could be a misunderstanding on my part because I could not understand Thai and my wife could have also misunderstood. However this is the first time it happened to me, in 5 years that I am in Chiang mai.

Did you get a receipt for the fine?

TM30 is the reporting form but it makes little sense to use it like this although it was being pushed in Hua Hin and in Chiangmai a couple of weeks ago.

Sounds like a scam.

If you leave the country, departure immigration report you leaving.

If you stay in a hotel elsewhere in Thailand, they are responsible for reporting.

That's exactly what happened. The border immigration reported me and the hotel as well. But they said that also my wife should have reported me for leaving home in Chiang mai and she should have given details of my travel in the online form.

I can't imagine our Condo office reporting who is leaving the country and when we're back.

Actually all the places that rents out long terms rooms, apartments, houses etc. to foreigners, should report them. But I think that most of it don't do it.

I just went to immigration and did my one year spouse visa and everything was fine. Few days later my wife received a call from immigration saying that she committed a felony by not reporting me while I went out of the country and stayed one night at a hotel outside of Chiang mai (by the way, this is the first time that happened to me in 5 years since I have been travelling around a lot but never had to do this). It might be our fault that we did not know this policy and so we got fined of 2000 baht. It was explained to us that if the Thai wife signed the rental agreement where both live, she is responsible for notifying every movement of her husband. Eg. if husband and wife go for a one night vacation to Chiang rai, she has to notify that to immigration using an online form so that they would know where the "alien" is going.

And yes, the form my wife had to fill in was called something like; "reporting the Alien living in your home".

By the way, it seems that the law was there since a few years but never been enforced. Because of the bombing in Bkk things have changed!!

The building on the left, inside chiang mai university, is the roasting facility where they process all the coffee from University plantations. You could buy coffee as well but I believe it is sold for over 400 baht/kg.

I bought it once and it was too burnt and sour for me but some other people might like it.

I drove from Chiang mai to Buriram till the border with Cambodia and the whole area was somehow on fire. It must have been a 500 square km of burning forests and fields. This is serious matter and an attack to human health and nature. Once the UN or any other intergovernmental bodies would fine 10 billion baht the government of Thailand for creating such a disaster then maybe they will start thinking how to resolve this problem.

There must be incentives or suitable options to stop this. If they'll tell people to just stop they won't care.

I think there is no single answer and for sure thai people cycle because; it's a fashion, they like the sport, it's easier to socialise with others etc.

I am a cyclist myself and I do wear lycra for the advantages it has. I don't understand what is the problem with it!

As somebody mentioned though, not many thai people use bikes to commute! I wish there could be more of it and less cars around!

To be honest, even though I am married with thai and always had work permit, I always felt as a permanent tourist!

If Immigration wanted to stop any abuse they could? I see the whole Visa thing as a tidy little earner for Thailand.

What I find amazing is that if I get married and have kids in Thailand, I will never be allowed to live in Thailand with no restrictions.

Whereas, if my future Thai family wanted to live in the UK, after a period and a certain amount of hurdles, they could live in the UK unrestricted the same as a UK citizen.

I find it astonishing you can never live here with your Thai family with no restrictions!

Unless, you are one of the holy 100.... if that's still available....I don't think a mere mortal like myself could ever reach those heights!

I bought a bike at Jack and that was easy. Like it has been said, he has a good array of parts as well even though only shimano and bontrager. The difficult part was communication! At the beginning before i bought the bike they seemed very disinterested in me and almost rude but after the purchase they were a bit better. I bought most of my bikes at chaitawat and repaired them there as well. He can speak some decent English and he knows how to deal with customers. The mechanic is good as well. Other bicycle shops I am not sure.

There is one shop which has only saa paper in front of Vieng Joom on tea house on the road where there is Riverside restaurant. From Riverside drive toward nakorn ping bridge. After about 300 m from Riverside there is the pink tea house and opposite there is the saa paper shop. The owner manufacture the paper by itself and can provide large quantities.

He should have an ownership transfer document that is signed by the previous owner, along with a signed copy of the previous onwer's ID card, as well as the green registration booklet.

With that you can transfer it to anyone's nameI think? (Someone pls. confirm)

yes exactly, I have these documents. There is this paper that you mentioned with the Thai owner name and his ID and my friend name that bought the bike last.

I have a question regarding the right procedures while selling a motorbike.

A friend of mine bought a bike and did not transfer the ownership from the previous owner. He left Thailand and asked me if I could sell the motorbike for him. All the papers are in place beside this power of attorney kind of document that says that the bike was sold to my friend, and he had the right to change the ownership, but he didn't.

I have found a buyer and so I am going to give him this document that have my friend name on it, so if the buyer would want to change the ownership I guess he could not because power of attorney was given to my friend. Is that correct?
