1. How do the Government think this 'policy' would be seen by other countries?

There are too many reasons why tourists avoid Thailand as it is, without creating another.

Would this 30 day turn around be for foreign drug traffickers too?

I agree that there are too many drugs and users in the Land of Smiles, but while Thailand's judicial system remains as it is(unreliable, corrupt and terrible), it would be wrong to have the death penalty for any conviction..

  2. I love the way all the experts come out to play when there is something to criticise..

If you are not happy in Thailand with the way things are done then the right answer could be to go somewhere you would be or do something positive to help. But negative comments posted on an anonymous internet forum is not helping anyone or anything.

So all you budding town-planners and fire fighters why not make constructive criticism in the right channels to the right people. Or go home.

If you have lived here any length of time it is OBVIOUS,

that in many things what we took for granted at home does not apply here.

So should you just shut up and let the status quo continue?

    Even if it is DEADLY?

No, so don't go home, say your piece and if someone doesn't like it That is THEIR problem.

The best way for things never to change for the better,

is to never acknowledge that there are ways you have seen that clearly work better.

It isn't racist to say so, it is simply logical to say so.

No doubt the Thai firefighters in Bangkok know their job...

They have NO CHOICE, fires forgive no mistakes.

But there are aspects of society that make that job harder.

I agree, there are many things not to 'our' standard in the Land of Smiles, but posting negative views on the internet does nothing.

Things do need to change, and maybe they will, but a comment on here won't help.. That was my point..

Oh, and I moved from Malaysia to Thailand in the 90's so I have had my moments of frustration..

Well done to the fire crews with their limited equipment and training..

  4. Can't believe that afire in an office block has enabled the usual suspects to come out and bash Thailand. Pretty sure we still have fires back in the UK. My impression of firefighters in Bangkok is that they do a very good job. I'll agree that some of the wiring and power cables aren't exactly great here - but there are a lot of things back home that aren't great. Anyone read about the bloke that drowned in 3 foot of water, as the police and fire brigade looked on, because Health abd Safety rules wouldn't allow then to walk in to the pond to get the person out as they had not done a submersible certificate.

No, but I did read the story with the correct facts, not the tabloid version..

  5. Good idea, move to neighboring countries with rampant and grinding poverty on a scale far worse than Thailand had even 30 years ago. Sure to encounter no scams there and the bar girls go with you for almost nothing because you have such a kind heart

Good to see you are sorting your priorities for living somewhere!

  6. Petesear says, ==sex with an under age child is rape.

I see that differently, because, when I have Sex with a 17 year young Lady in Thailand, who wants to have Sex with me,

it is rape, you say, because the age of consent is here (approximately?) 18,

I see that it, is maybe against the law, but it is not rape, in the way, I understand it.

By the way, in the countryside in TH girls often, are already mothers with 17.

In Austria, my GF was 16 -the age of consent there, when I made her to a woman. I was 19.

So, if this had happened in TH I had raped her? You joking, I hope. giggle.gif

    No, I am not joking.

Sex with someone under age is statutory rape.

I am sure the 13 year old in this news article did not want to have sex. Either way it is rape.

Still no pictures of those charged?

  7. Farangs...they never seize to amaze me....what is special about 13 yr old?

Why Farangs? Is it something only Farangs do? Have Sex with underaged?

    I doubt that!

Special on 13 Year youngsters is that they are young, that is it,

the perpetrators are sick. thats it. Their sexual orientation is wrong!

Sexual orientation is not something what you choose,

if so, there would not be so many Homosexual, Lesbians, Tomboys and Ladyboys, Katoys be around.

I disagree completely. I am straight and I choose to have consensual sex. I am not a rapist.

What ever your sexual preference is you still have to make the choice to act on it.

Chemical castration is the only answer to these sick b*stards..

    There is some misunderstanding -Petesear-

Raping is no Sexual Orientation, also some Paedophiles do so. By the way,the above thread is not about rape! It is about sex with under aged.

Of course, that is double bad, make Sex against the will of a person and with an underaged to!

But, that you are straight, you did not choose, same people, who are Homosexual did not do so by will, but by Orientation.

If you are sick and I think most of the Paedophlies are, they cannot choose do do it or not, They need Psycho pharmaca

and also Chemical Castration is a possibility, to stop the danger!

Sorry, but I don't think you understand what I am saying..

I am straight and I have sex. It is possible that this could be rape but I choose not to do this act. It is my choice.

I could be straight and choose not to have sex, or gay or whatever..

I think you are missing the point.

    Pedo's choose to abuse. Fact.

Oh, and sex with an under age child is rape.

  8. What a pair of <snip>!!! The sentences serve them well, and I take great comfort in knowing that the US for example multiply every year a US citizen has spent in a Thai jail by 6 because of the hard circumstances prisoners are exposed to here. So 21 years in a Thai prison equal 126 years in a US jail and 42 equal 252. Have fun guys!!!

Got your maths a bit mixed up there I think. If the US sees one year spent in a Thai jail as six because of harsh conditions, you need to divide the sentence rather than multiply

  10. Do it, you can live on that money easily, don't worry about all the guys on here that will tell you it is not enough, you are not doing it to get rich but it seems everyone on here already is and they do like to look down on teachers..

It will be a great experience.

But do listen to the posters about the whores out fleece you.. Both male and female, whichever tickles your fancy..

  11. 'She is a good, honest person, the type of which are hard to find in any country and if she was from anywhere else, I would feel proud to have her as my gf.'

The op is embarrassed because she is Thai, not Asian, he is not talking about racism, he is talking about people thinking she was a whore....

To some people Thai girl equates to prostitute.

So the op has taken this minority view and escalated it... Most of it of it is in his head, some is not...

We live in a bigoted world...Get over it or move on. You are showing yourself to be a weak person, unsure of yourself, your girlfriend or your social standing..

  12. Is it true that the clone regime like the Thaksin regime are anti farang and they tighten up on VISA of any kind?

Every country in the world keeps tightening up Visa regulations.

When the world should be getting more open, the governments force it to be more restrictive.

A consequence of terrorism, or at least the fear of it?

It does appear big brother is not doing its best to keep us all safe..

  13. To her this translates as me being embarrassed to be seen with her and it hurts her a lot.

To me this translates as you're embarrassed to be seen with her and she is understandably hurt.

I suggest you put these people right. Tell them where you met her, unless it was in a brothel, explain to these people who have never travelled to such a wild country what Thailand is really like, but above all be proud of your girl before you lose her to someone who would be.

Whereas I agree with the second part of that statement the first part is particularly abhorent! If I was out with my wife in Thailand and she had to go over to tables and explain i'm not from Isaan but England has chocolate men I'd wonder why the hell she felt the need to walk around explaining my existence. Celebrate how different she is don't hide her in the attic/cellar.

What I mean is tell people where you met her, how you met her. Celebrate the lady and land she's from... the brothel part was just banter, which is something to get used to...

  14. You either deal with it like a man or dont have an Asian gf. Grow some <deleted> for Ch*st sakes!!!!!! annoyed.gif

The stigma is the OP's wife being Thai, not Asian. Whether we like it or not, Thai and Filipino women have a stigma attached to them that others don't have.

Telling the OP to man up is hardly helpful - it is a problem for him and his wife and needs to be addressed on a slightly higher level.

Of course it is weird for others to hear one speak pidgin English to one's wife - and that's where the preconceived ideas come in . . .

    Not an easy situation

Well don't then.. Speak English or Thai, but certainly not bastardized English

  15. It has got nothing to do with your girl being Asian and everything to do with her being Thai.

You are embarrassed that the(present) love of your life comes from a country which many people perceive to be the World's brothel. Right?

I suggest you put these people right. Tell them where you met her, unless it was in a brothel, explain to these people who have never travelled to such a wild country what Thailand is really like, but above all be proud of your girl before you lose her to someone who would be.

  16. The law is the law. Whether you choose to obey that is a different matter.

If you risk a long overstay and make it to the airport and pay your way out of trouble, then you have been very fortunate. The consequences of not making out of the country cleanly are serious. I have seen the holding 'cage' at the back of immigration on Soi SuaPlu, and I have seen westerners handcuffed to the chairs in the payment office above the cage.

There weren't many happy faces up there.

You pay your money-you take a chance...

As for the OP I think there could be more to the story.

  17. I hate any form of cruelty.. Especially to those who can't fight back..

But I also hate the packs of stray dogs at night when they get a bit of bravado, like the pack on the beach on Samet..

They should all be humanly destroyed as should all vermin..

Thais being Buddhist all things have a right to life.

Yes, but I'm not Buddhist and I wrote that I thought they should all be destroyed, not what Thais think..

But would these be the same Thai Buddhists that the OP was talking about? A right to life as long as it is a tormented one?

  18. I hate any form of cruelty.. Especially to those who can't fight back..

  19. The reason people may be sending advice is because they may have been in the same boat or, as in my case, know a fool who has been there!

A mate of mine visited Thailand for 3 weeks, met a girl in Nana disco, an odd looking girl with tattoos and bleached hair, never slept with her because she was frigid but continued to send her money(15+k Baht) a month for the next 3 years despite never going back. Eventually he visited his 'bird'(his words) they had a fight and she tried to glass him.. I think he sends her a little less a month now but he does still send her cash some 6 years on... Mental
