  1. Agreed being back 'home' in the UK is difficult, especially after being in Bangkok for a decade but we have our reasons. We want our daughter to have a British accent and believe the schooling is better here.

We are 3 years in now and really have no idea when we'll return permanently. Life was good in Thailand and we miss it...

  2. Go for it mate, it won't be long and she could be looking for a trade-in, you are not getting any younger but she is getting wiser... Oh, and for what it's worth I think she is probably too embarrassed to take you to her 'village'(why do they all come from villages?), for all I know you could be a young looking athletic male but I'm guessing not!

The world is full of missed match relationships so don't feel out of place, people will judge you and be jealous but that's what you want and why you posted this topic on here, isn't it?

  3. Actually what I meant was that I was often stopped for no reason but that changed when Thaksin came into 'power'.

Only then were the Plod forced to write tickets, although this took time to filter to everyone in uniform, so I could no longer be 'fined' for changing lanes or turning right or any other made-up traffic offence. None of this happened overnight but it did happen.. And the the tints were removed for the Police boxes in Bangers..

  4. A similar thing happened to a friend of mine over a few years. She would turn up, on or around pay day, at the school he taught in and shout, scream and swear outside the teachers' room.

She was eventually banned from school grounds but not before stabbing him a couple of times.

She is dead now(not sure how) and he lives in Cambodia.

Find a friendly Plod is the best advice...

  5. Lets this be a warning - any man who gets attached to a Thai woman is living on top of a volcano. He has been driven mad by their nature, character, volatilility or lack of reason. Ok they are alright for friendship, shortime, partnership- but marriage forget it ; the vast majority of Thai-Farang marriages are doomed especially after say 4 or 5 years. Many marriages of this type end in breakdown, separation and divorce or the couple co-exist in an unhappy state staying together for their mixed youngsters. I am talking about long term marriage here; keep away from it ; live together but do not make a legal marriage. Sorry- its the reality; there's too much conflict about sharing money, culture, family, bring children up, making money, buying Thai property and eventually being dragged into living in this developing country with all its inconsistencies and inner tensions ( mainly money)

Here speaks a man with a failed marriage... Is it not possible these relationships fail because of the man?

Maybe it's because of the guy's age or even beer habits? But it would not be fair to blame only the females...

  6. I've hardly been stopped for anything in the last 6 years but before that I was stopped in my car at least once a month, often more.

I was stopped for driving a new car(red plate) at night a few times, stopped for changing lanes, turning left, speeding etc etc. Every time I was stopped back then I was asked for money, I even had money taken from my wallet outside the World Trade centre by a BIB on a busy Saturday afternoon.

I was also stopped and searched in the street a few times but nothing ever came from that.

Then it all changed, and I believe that Thaksin may have had something to do with that.... The irony!

  7. Yes. Again; regards schooling in the UK, I really wouldn't want to inflict state school on the nipper even though it's free, unless as a last resort! That's part of it, but there's also the mentality thing of the lower echelons of UK society that I wouldn't want him mixing with. It's certainly not perfect here, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want him growing up in that environment, or anything less than a quality boarding school, thanks.

Anyway, hope it works out op. I can see why you fancy walking. ;)

There are some very good state schools in the UK it just depends on where you live.

If you were to compare a good state school in the Land of Smiles to one in the UK I believe the UK school would prove to be better..

We all have different opinions on education but ultimately we do what we trust is right for our children. I think that if we did not give our daughter the opportunity to learn the Queen's English and the King's Thai then we as parents would be failing her. A Thai state school, even one with an 'English Programme' would not be right for us.

    Good Luck Onnut, Stay happy..

  8. Onnut, I feel for you. If you are sure that you and yours will not want to return to Thailand soon(to live) then maybe walking away could be the right move.

We left Thailand nearly 3 years ago for our daughter's education, my desire for her to have a British accent and the wife's Masters. We will return.

I just wanted to reiterate the UK's financial problems to you. The Uk has been hit hard at every level, I have a small company here and I was paying myself £54k a year but last year I was only able to pay half of that. This is a huge difference and I am not sure how long we can put up with this. Plus England is not the best place in the World to live... but Thailand is... I hope you do what is right for you. Good luck.

  9. First this was not a Road traffic Accident, it was a Road Traffic Collision. The term 'Accident' really means that nobody is to blame, but as with most RTC's it was someone's fault.

Exactly who is to blame will need to be proven, but the 16yr old Honda should be prosecuted for something, even if it is only driving illegally!

I know that this RTC will not be investigated properly, the said girl will walk(or drive) free.

If the Honda driver was not Thai I'm sure the police would look into it with more interest!

RIP to the victims, another sad waste of life in The land of Smiles...

  10. How can it be that so many paedophiles come to Thailand and commit terrible crimes against children without any other Ferang knowing or even being suspicious!?

I personally never go to Pattaya so have no idea when/where etc these worms go to find the pimps that sell these children.

I can't believe that nobody who lives in and around Pattaya has never heard anything about these people. Could it be that there are people, maybe even on here, that just turn a blind eye?

Shame on you if you are reading this... Stand up and be counted, do something and help these kids!

  11. Thai girl said ,i have a V for a guy like you,,i dont understand what you mean ,she wrote it down just as she said it,,, i have a V for a guy like you, any one know what it means??

What? A random Thai girl said this? More info may help....

its my g/f work friend, makes it a bit awkward if i ask my g/f what she means,,and if it means what i think it means i dont want to encourage her by taking any sort of interest in her remarks, im trying to find out exactly what it means before i say anything to her

Best to say nothing then... And see what happens... But if your G/F has been chatting at work, could it be Viagra that the girl was talking about...?

    Only you can answer that..

  13. Me thinks the OP has got himself into a pickle....

He wouldn't be the first Ferang to find he has lost his family whilst working in the Land of Smiles!!

Time to confess before the blackmailer has the chance to tell?

But this would depend on how 'serious' the said videos are...

  14. I think a lot of Thai parents invest in their children whether through a good education or by just having them.

And in the parent's old age they expect a return on that investment, if it was through good schooling then no doubt the children can afford a sum of money from their own bank account when they get jobs. If the child was not so diligent, or lucky, then another way to pay must be found.

With refrence to the girls in the OP,I don't see it as the parents 'selling' their children, I'm sure the children decided the Ferang option was for them and it was not the choice of the parents, but once one had done it the others saw the light.

There is obviously not a pension set up for the OP's parents-in-law, but they have to live. If the house is paid for then 12k Baht a month is a lot in my opinion.

Why not offer your GF a monthly allowance and leave it to her to make the payments. Does she(GF) work?

  15. A few years back I was very nearly hit by a bus that had jumped the lights at the mall Thapra, Bangkok. I had my then 2 year old in the back and the bus was inches from hitting the rear of my car. The car behind us was not so lucky. I didn't stop and go back for 2 reasons, one was there wasn't anywhere safe to stop the other was I was a tad annoyed and may have done something stupid.

I agree that traffic cameras at junctions handing out instant fines would be the answer, but we could be a long way off from those being implemented...
