  1. 1) Marry/date girls only from the top schools (or graduates of the top schools)... Chula, Thammasat, Abac, Kasetsart, Bangkok U., etc...

    2) Make sure they pay for you half the time, even if it's for something lesser... ex. if you pay for a nice dinner, they pay for dessert at a nice place (Ex. Haagen Dasz, or at least Svensen's etc.) or they pay for the movie.

You then most probably won't have a problem of the Thai girl going for you for your money, they might even have more money than you (or at least their family might). And it definitely ain't true that all these girls are "spoiled" brats either.

(watch the "exceptions" group start attacking very soon... :) )

*However, if you do marry, it is acceptable for them to ask 200,000 to 1 Million or more and it ain't because they need your money. In fact, at this level, the less the family needs the money, the more you pay (due to status). I've been to these weddings and that's really what the Thai groom pays.

    .

I doubt you mean 'pays' here, surely you mean shows.

The money is, as in my case, usually returned in full.

That is where the whole status thing comes in, it's all for show, to show your worth..

  2. Women are women, regardless of nationality.

    This.

Even tho there are many thai girls that just want money, you can't convince me that a young man can't find young thai girl and be happy with her, in relationship or marriage without him being rich. I get a lots of girls in my country and I did in some others as well, so why wouldnt a girl be with me just for myself? I can't believe that EVERY thai girl wants money from a guy. And that video is pure crap. Just use common sense I'd say.

If you are 60 years old guy and you fall for 18-year old girl...then no comment.

    I don't understand 'This'.

The point of my above statement was to say don't think all and only Thai girls are like those seen in the vid'.

You can meet a girl and be happy with her, the cynical will ask is she happy with you, and you don't have to be rich to do it.

But you are much better off meeting someone you are similar to. This, in my opinion, goes for intellect, wealth and age.

So you're right, if you are a 60 year old and she is an 18 year old who is fresh out of a village and you think you are entering an equal and balanced relationship then you are a fool. I think most men in this situation know the truth, they just try to kid themselves otherwise...

  3. Women are women, regardless of nationality.

Since the beginning of time instinct has taught them to mate with providers and be provided for.

This old chestnut pops up so often..... Blah blah blah.... All Thai women are bad.... Blah... Western women are all fat....

But, I do believe that there are more less-educated Thai girls going after Farang than there are well educated Thai girls doing the same thing. I can't say what skin colour they all have, but it is more likely that the better educated girls are whiter.

Those 'white' girls really do think that all Farang like darker skin more than whiter.

We know that some do and some don't. But you can see why the whiter girls might think this, can't you?

I prefer the whiter, more Chinese looking girls, I guess the ones that are not as 'pure blood' Thais as the others... :)

  4. No I did not know that it is more dangerous to walk drunk than to drive drunk, niether do I believe it. Please show us the evidence, I think it may come down a case of "lies, dam_n lies and statistics"

Foolish laws like compulsory seat belt wearing, random breath testing, red light and speed cameras, lower speed limits, have halved the road toll in many western countries in the last thirty years.

So how can it be lies damned lies and statistics for something you dont believe is true and yet it is not the same lies damned lies and statistics for something in you believe is true??!!

Random breath testing and not going through a red light maybe.....but the others are all government revenue generating measures and are purely that, they are there to generate revenue for the govt, they dont care for your or my safety. Esp with speed cameras and the non use of mobile phones. There's been no study on this planet that has ever proved categorically speed cameras reduce accidents, in fact it probably causes more accidents due to sudden braking and cars slowing down where they know the cameras are and then speeding up again when the camera has passed.

The same with cell phones, in the UK i think since cell phones have been invented there's probably been about 5 cases where it has has been fatal and purely due because of the cell phone, what they hide is the fact surrounding it, maybe the child just jumped out from nowhere and the person happened to be on the cell phone, even if the person was fully attentive there would have been no chance. What about the parent not holding the childs hand? Why are they not prosecuted if the govt was really concerned about our safety?

Speed camera's. I had 27 points at one time, thats 3 bans!! But i spread them across my mother, father and brothers license and my own so i didnt get a ban. Most of them were pathetic doing 35 in a 30 zone at 3am in the morning when even rabbits were asleep and couldnt be harmed. So i just paid the 60 quid fine and sent in family members licenses for them to endorse. if they were that concerned about safety and not about the money, they would have asked my mother why a 62 year old lady was driving a toyota supra at 35mph at 3am!! off course they dont ask, they have already got the money.

You are wrong, whatever you may 'think', I personally know of three accidents all caused 100% by concentrating on their phone and not the road. All causing death, one accident killed a mother and two children. Any driving related laws that are introduced to save lives can only be a good thing.

  5. Try this experiment, put some petrol in a small dish, throw a lighted cigarette in it, it does not go boom, puts out the smoke.

The op wrote about someone about to light a cigarette, so garyh try the above with a naked flame and tell us the results.

If there was a strong smell of fuel then the 'closed' containers were leaking or fuel had been spilt.

This is an everyday occurrence in Thailand but it is one I would avoid if I could....

  6. In my wedding, the sin sod was merely 'presented' for those attending and my wife and I got it back after the wedding. I would be careful with families that are greedy after the sin sod.

Same went for us at our wedding.

  7. Things may have changed but it used to be the case that if the vehicle was older than 10 years it was duty free.

And the vehicle did need to be in a Thai nationals name for a certain period of time too, but I thought it was 24 months.

It will be interesting to see how you get on because I've got a car I'd like to bring over...... Good luck

  8. Looking at the photo I think the plant pot has been put there to stop people parking outside there(their) house.

You drive a car not a bus.

If you want to keep the piece(peace), which I feel you should even if you do know the local Bobby, then maybe you should reverse down your road and straight on to your drive.

    Job done. :)

  9. Hi,

I enjoy reading the forums and this is my first post all be it a difficult dilema I am in.

Here is my situation,my Lao wife lives with me in the UK.

Were both in our late 20`s,working have a little dog together, rented house etc and I thought it all was sweet.

She had to return to Lao the end of August for a visa reason and since then it has been a nightmare.

She would not answer her phone for days, none of her "mates" knew where she was it became so bad I had no contact from her for 8 days I booked a flight over there and arrived in Laos.

I found her the next day chatting to a young swedish fella in a bar whom she said she just met, then I noticed her engagement ring and her wedding ring were absent.

She gave me a sob story about her mum needing money whom she has not been in contact with for 15yrs and she pawned the rings.

I asked around the bars as i have a few mates frequenting them whether she was cheating all said no.

We went on holiday to try resolve what was up got back the rings for her, great time had and I flew back to UK with her to follow in 2 weeks.

Again the contact slowed absent for 3 days,5 days no contact only ringing for money.

She checked into a hotel it was fine for 2 days she went out that night and reception staff said she never came home.

She did not go back there for 6 days and hit me for the bill, when asked where she was she said with a friend in the countryside.

Now again no contact and I booked a flight for her on Tuesday to fly to Bangkok she was not on it and every other time she cannot wait to leave Lao,this time she wanted wait a few more days.

I have given her my entire trust and it has been shattered,we have been together for 3yrs married 1 and my family and friends are all asking when she is back as they have no clue the mental torture she is putting me through.

I know she is up to something, she looks great and is very tricky but this is gone too far.

I want to end it all now as if we have no trust what have we,it is so complicated to end as I am too ashamed for my family and mates to find out she has cheated on me after all I have done for her personally and financially.

I am stuck in a job here and will have to face people on a daily basis who will learn of my situation or do I carry on and take her back and pretend all is normal as right now I feel no love for this cold girl.

I have lived in Asia 6yrs and you think it will never happen to me,she has cheated on me once 3yrs ago but since then I think nothing.

Constructive advice much appreciated maybe someone has had a similar experience

Thanks wiish this could have been a light hearted post

You know what needs doing, sort out a divorce. And stay friendly with her so you get your much needed divorce, before she realises she could make some money out of you needing her signature..

She is obviously not happy, I'm sure you could sense that sometime ago?

Don't be embarrassed, a woman can fall out of love/leave you/cheat on you where ever she's from.

As for the negative comment that it must be related to drugs is foolish to say the least. The girl has realised, or maybe always knew, that the UK and you are not for her. She may have pawned the rings because she knew she wasn't returning to the UK.

I know you are hurting. Time etc will fix that.

  10. how do they fare up against the Thai people ?

Westerners i think have more raw power but the asians have more stamina and thai boxers from thailand learn to take beatings since a little kid.

How do westerners generally fare against the real deal muay thai fighter?

Not only Western guys, girls come here to fight too.. and some of them are very good

  11. You' re welcome krub.

    Snake story:

About 3 years ago my aunt used to have 2 geese as pets, yes that bif white poultry in the garden. Her house is on Thonburi side of BKK. Their name were Donald and Daisy. They were clever, called the name and that one ran to her.

One day Daisy disappeared. The premise was well fense up and she didn't normally fly high...

One month later, Donald disappeared. They looked around and you can guess what they found...

One big fat Boa, 2 meters long...

She called the BKK Dusit Zoo, "Sorry Mame, catching snake is not our direct duty."

The Department of Forestry, "Well, you can considered living with it peacefully, human and snake is are not enemies, you can live together." The lady officer DID REALLY said this !!

The 191 Police, "Alright, please wait for a few minutes."

5 minutes later the local rescue volunteers came with the sack and snake catching stick, the cop on bike also came shortly after to observe.

They quickly pack up the snake and left without charge.

That day, police serve the public effectively.

The Boa is widely spread in BKK. They live near and commute by canel. Some cats in the Princess palace next to Siam Discovery were swallowed. Few years ago one took refuge in the Swiss Embassy. Those group should came from San-saeb Canel that runs between Sukhumvit and Petchburi Road.

PS: It's the Python they used for hanging on your neck for photo, it's gentle breed. But almost all of big STRAY snakes is Boa, it is aggressive and although poisonless, will try to bit you like a dog.

Nice story but Boa Constrictors are native to the Americas. So, unless there has been a mass escape from a zoo I doubt there are many slithering their way around here.

    They are not Pythons.

The snake you speak of was most likely a Burmese or Reticulated Python. These snakes grow much bigger than a Boa and are common in Thailand.

  12. You need a work permit or student ED visa etc to open a bank account... if you're coming on a tourist visa you won't get a bank account most likely. (I don't know maybe with $30k you will? But when I opened mine they never asked how much I was depositing, just asked to see my work permit or ed visa)

I have opened 3 bank accounts here on Tourist visas, but these rules do change all the time, and differ from bank to bank, and indeed branch to branch.

You do not need a work permit or student visa to open a bank account, but you will need a bank manager who knows the rules. If you fail at one bank try another.

  13. As for the OP, you are skating on thin ice, you may find you are being lied to and it may all go tits up.. But why not give it a go? Don't start sending loads of cash over there so she doesn't need to 'work' in a bar and prepare yourself for her to 'meet' someone else.

Save your money and turn up unannounced it will be a nice surprise and it will give you an insight in to her life whilst you are not there.

Don't listen to all the old cynics on here who claim to have never frequented a bar but always seem to know lots about bar girls....... :)

  14. I think the whole idea of paying sin sod is rubbish, especially for marriages with mixed traditional values.

I would also worry that a 'poor' family would only waste a sudden windfall of 200k or more thinking that there could be more where that came from.

And, do you not think that 200k is a tad excessive? Would they be asking anywhere near that amount had the 'husband' been a Thai grease monkey?

It strikes me that 'selling' your daughter should no longer be a part of Thai tradition....

  15. They seem to consistently misspell the word 'angel' as 'angle.' I always get a chuckle when in Thai chat rooms and I see a name like DarlingAngle or 69SexyAngle69.

This reminded me of the very large hanging poster I saw in MBK advertising the new film 'Charlie's Angles'...

  16. A couple of month ago we were invited by this neighbour for lunch. The reason was, we learned when we arrived, they had an other foreigner for lunch and they were trying to sell him (actually his Thai wife) a piece of land nearby. Nothing wrong with that so far. The only problem is the husband is also an architect / contractor but a very lousy one. We had some problem with them in the past, we eventually found a solution but we said "never again!".

When I told my wife we should warn the new comers, she said it was none of our business, and anyway it was only a land deal. Later we learned more was involved in the deal, including the design of the new house, and of course now they have argument, our neighbours saying the falang doesn't want to pay for their job, him saying they obviously overcharge him for a poor job. Based on our experience, we, actually I, my wife still doesn't want to be involved, think the new comer is right.

Should I have warned the new comer during our meeting ? Anyway, he was looking very self confident at the time and i don't think he would have listen to my advises. And we would have end up with trouble with everybody. As usual, my wife is probably right

Would you have liked to have been informed of this contractor's shoddy work before you had parted with any money?

    Now you have your answer....

  17. As an SAS trained fireman(retired) I have little trouble making friends in whichever bar I decide to frequent. All the ladies adore me and I rarely go home alone, also I am often commended on my good looks. My western friends, who I spend many hours in wise and meaningful conversations with, all tend to be ex military too, and are all great blokes.

I'm not one to flaunt my wealth so I choose to live a pretty low key lifestyle here, but really I'm very rich and have many properties back home...

But to be honest I do worry about some of the other TV members and their mental health.... From some the obvious fabrications you can read here it is sad to think that they are away from their families and Doctors....

  18. You are all so cynical.... 'it must be a set up by the BIB'... etc

What about the smell from 'puff', don't you think the maids and even other guests may have got a whiff of it?

It is not unusual for people to call the police in the event of a crime taking place, and sadly drug taking is illegal.

Should we not be discussing why these people think they can come here and do as they please? Never mind that many Thais use drugs, we are not Thai and really need to show more respect for the laws laid down here. But if we must break them then let's at least do it subtly.
