  1. I did the visa run to penang january of this year.  I did the trip down via bus, and back to bangkok via train.  all in all, the same amount of time required.  you are looking at about 25 hours.  the bus was suppose to take about 18 hours, but things seem to happen along the way down.  train was slow, but somewhat comfortable.  ..would I do it again, you ask?  if I need to save money, yes.  I also did the visa run to phnom penh, and mae sai.  the trip to phnom penh by bus took 18 hours.  the trip to mae sai took 12 hours.  I also did the trip to aranjaphadet.  one way about 4 hours.  for getting tourist visa which requires going to a thai embassy or consulate outside thailand, I recommend - penang.  for simple border run - aranjaphadet.
  2. when I first heard of thailand increasing visa fees, I was somewhat upset.  ..but somebody said that the usa recently raised their visa fees (november 1, 2002).  so, I checked to confirm that rumor..  ...well, it's true.  the usa charges foreign visitors at least 100 us dollars to get a visa to enter the united states.

I'm still upset about having to pay more for a visa to enter thailand, but how can I justifiably complain when my home country started this trend?

it seems someone in foreign affairs in the usa is getting greedy?  how can we blame thailand for just following suit?

  3. while surfing the web, I decided to check out the forums on several newspapers, and tv stations here in southeast asia.

to say the least, I was shocked by the amount of anti-american sentiment being vented.  the hatred is so great, it's scary.

    www.channelnewsasia.com

    www.bangkokpost.com

    www.nationmultimedia.com

americans everywhere need to be made aware of this hatred before they plan trips over here, and/or think about investing here.

..in the forum section of channelnewsasia, there are over 15 topics listed, and all of them are anti-american in nature.

scary.  reminds me of what happened in nazi germany before the war.

pass the word.  all americans need to know.

  4. I'm american, age 49, and have been living here in thailand for over 4 years.

..I have a friend who went to SCM to setup a business/corporation entity.  they charged him 15k baht to do this.  he did this 3 years ago.

anyway, he decided to just get a retirement visa, and retire.

..in I come, I want to open a business here.  so, I thought that I might be able to save money by having my friend transfer his corporation to me.

when we went to SCM to have this done, they said the fee for transferring my friend's corporation to me would be 45k. (?)

they said their expenses have increased. (?)

anyway, I like to know just what is the truth regarding the process of transferring a corporation from one person to another.  and also the costs involved.

I want to open up a small pizza restaurant serving san francisco style pizza by the slice. ..sourdough crust, etc.

any information would be most appreciated.  thank you.
