I walk around my house at night with a flashlight and a fly swatter and a long pole and I play a game with them. Sometimes I win and can make them fall to the ground where I can crush them, and other times the buggers scammer off with their neat disappearance techniques and I lose. I have finally eradicated many but still hunt for the remaining miscreants at night. I just got tired of them <deleted>ting all over the inside of the house. It has become kinda fun and I can can go to battle with them each night.

Obtaining a Thailand tax ID #
watgate replied to watgate's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I guess I could have gone to the Tax Revenue Dept to obtain my tax id # but opted to pay my accountant in Bangkok to get one for me. It wasn't expensive and saved me the hassle of having to travel to Bangkok to get my tax id #. I was referring to, if and when, retirees are going to have to start filing a thai tax return as part of the process to determine whether one has to pay income taxes to Thailand for income either brought into Thailand or for retirees total worldwide income. There is currently an ongoing push to tax retirees who live in Thailand for more then 180 days. -
Seeing as how their is a good possibility foreigners residing in Thailand for more then 180 days will have to do a thai tax return for their personal income and investments, do you think it is important to obtain a tax id # now? If this proposal to tax foreigners income and investments is passed and comes into law, their will be a mad dash by 1000's of expats to obtain a tax id # in order to comply with the thai tax Revenue Dept regulations and requirements to file a thai tax return. If one does obtain a tax id now and this tax scheme is not passed, then so be it, and one will be out a few thousand baht for obtaining a tax id now. But, if an expat waits to see if the tax proposal is eventually passed into law, then one will have to get into the queue, along with 1000's of other expats, in order to apply and obtain a thai tax id # from the thai Revenue Dept should the tax proposal be passed into law. As they say in Thailand up to you.

I have been using the Avira free virus protection offering for several years and in the past, if I had an issue with their program, I could just uninstall it and then reinstall it again. This time I could not update my virus protection nor run a scan on my laptop. Avira has made it virtually impossible to either repair or uninstall my virus protection software which is currently installed on my laptop. You can't contact support unless you now have a license key which would necessitate you having to take out a paid subscription with them. They have a support bot which is worthless and in reading some other postings in their chat room, other folks who were using the free version are also having the same issue of not being able to uninstall the free version from their computer. The replies from Avira to the posters in the chat room are basically, tough luck, you need a license key to contact support and they have radically changed the process to force someone to have to pay for a subscription. I just want to uninstall my free version but when ever I attempt it, it says you can't and to contact support which puts you in a never ending loop. Any suggestions on what I can do to successfully uninstall my free version of Avira form my laptop.?

3 year old Thai girl sexually assaulted by foreign man in Phuket

They must find this sick, demented creature, chop off his member, and then throw him in a thai prison and let the inmates have a field day with him. -
U.S. Social security fraud prevention block
watgate replied to watgate's topic in US & Canada Topics and Events
No I never filed a report with the FTC. Do you think it is a worthwhile endeavor and what exactly does it entail and what benefits, if any, are derived from filing a report with them? You have piqued my curiosity. P.S. Several years ago someone tried to fraudulently try and take out a credit card in my name but, fortunately, since my credit was frozen, I was contacted by one of the credit agencies to ask if this was me. I told them no and thus the scammer was unable to proceed with the application. -

I am not overly concerned since I put a credit freeze on all 3 credit monitoring agencies. I use to pay for a credit monitoring service but in reviewing my free credit monitoring service provided by my bank, it was basically the same setup as the one I had been paying for. I have taken steps to ensure my financials were strengthened and safeguards are in place which I am comfortable with. A lot of my info which was found in the dark web is no longer valid and I changed all my passwords. Nothing is 100 per cent foolproof but I contacted my financial institutions and am satisfied with arrangements I made with them. It is important to never click on an email you receive until you are sure it is legitimate and never divulge any info to anyone. If need be I will contact the appropriate agency, if need be. I periodically check my credit reports and just remain vigilant, but don't get crazed since literally hundreds of millions, if not billions of other individuals and businesses have had their personal info hacked also. It is, unfortunately, a reality of life and no one is safe with all the countless agencies and companies being hacked by unscrupulous entities. You just have to be proactive and take necessary steps to ensure you are relatively safe from all the scammers looking to scam you. -

It looks like I will have to contact the social security office in the Philippines in order to request a direct deposit fraud prevention block since I was recently informed that my ssn and d.o.b. were found on the dark web. Since I have never tried to contact this office before, can someone please give me the ph# and/or their email so I can contact them. Also, I understand it can be frustrating to finally talk to someone there so if anyone has in fact contacted them can you inform me when is the best time to call them or what are their hours of operation. Thank you for your assistance to this frustrating and stressful situation.

As the title says, maybe I missed the news but I am wondering whatever happened to the swiss guy who owned the elephant sanctuary and was deeply brewed in a public relations nightmare over his unfortunate behavior with the thai Dr. I thought he was supposed to be kicked out of Thailand. Any updates would be appreciated.

Wouldn't it be great if retired expats who reside full-time in Thailand, are given the opportunity to join the Thai 30 baht healthcare system, if and when they are forced to start paying taxes on their worldwide income to the Thai government. In so doing, they would be able to start using the healthcare system in Thailand and would be getting something in return for their taxes being paid to the government. I know try not to laugh to hard

As more countries, and just recently, Thailand, are moving away from the US dollar in its capacity as the world's reserve currency, and are joining BRICS to conduct their business outside the US dollar, what effect will this have on the US dollar? Do you think American's residing in Thailand will have any problem with the US dollar now that Thailand has stopped using the US dollar? Also, now that more then 1/2 the world's population, including Russia, China, India have de dollarized from the US currency, what effect will that have on the US dollar in terms of purchasing power, the devaluation of the dollar due to out of control printing of fiat currency to finance their debt due to more and more countries not wanting to own US dollars that are becoming worth less and less? No one has a crystal ball but am interested in folks outlook for the US dollar going forward, and how concerned are you, if any, about the present course of events globally as they unfold, especially in relation to your investments and pensions and social security, as well as ones holdings in other assorted investment vehicles denominated in US dollars.

Looking for a good dentist in Prachuap Khiri Khan (not Hua Hin)

So any recommendations for a good dentist in Hua Hin. If need be I will go to Hua Hin if I can find a good dentist there. -
Myself and my thai wife went to a visa agency in Chiang Mai to assist us in obtaining a spousal visa to go to the U.S. This was just before Covid-19 hit and everything was put on hold for a long time. After Thailand started to open up again, as well as the rest of the world, we approached the visa agent to see what the progress was with our visa application. He basically was stringing us along and, unbeknown to us he closed up his visa agency. Thia was after he stopped answering his phone calls from us or returning our calls. We found out from sources he had stiffed other clients and we traveled to Chiang Mai to see the police there. We were informed by the Police that since this was a civil matter, a complaint needed to be filed with them within 3 months. It was fruitless to try and explain to them that we were in the midst of a pandemic and not very practical to file a complaint with them within 3 months even had we known about this requirement because everything during this time was shutdown including the U.S Embassy and Consulate office in Thailand. The bottom line was the Police said there was nothing they could do and tried to refer us to a lawyer. They were insistent that we contact this lawyer and they gave this atty our ph# who called us to try and get our business. He wanted a few thousand baht to get the ball rolling, and God only knows how much he would have hit us up for with no assurances of being able to get our money back. We decided to just drop our case and didn't hire this atty and just chalked up our loss of money as an example of how it is easy to get fleeced in Thailand.

It sounds like you have your mind made up so I would go and live there, if I were you, just for the relatively clean air, if nothing else. Your monthly rent would be very reasonable and you are already familiar with the surrounding area, not to mention that if your health starts to head south, you would have your ex to take care of you. It sounds like a win win to me. Good luck. P.S. I was living in Chiang Mai with my now wife and after a 2nd bout of bronchitis I said that was it for me We moved from Chiang Mai. It was the best thing I ever did and your health should be most important in your decision making.

Thai Maid Inherited Fortune from French Boss
watgate replied to webfact's topic in Southern Thailand News
I hope this situation is resolved quickly and the estate goes to a deserved person, as deemed to be, by the legal system. -
Thanks for all the great replies. Much appreciated. I will have to sit down with my wife's daughter who is great with smart phones, and decide which of all these great recommendations would be most beneficial for my needs to get text messages from financial institutions in the U.S for 2FA so I can then access my accounts.
