"...I'm not trying to be pedantic but just saying that blood test, urine and ECG are pretty simple standard routine tests that are free at the GP for pensioners here (so far at least) and which I would have regularly."
Where can pensioners get free blood tests, urine test, and electrocardiogram? And what is "the GP?"
I love a quiz.......England and Grand prix
with reference to mikeys post above; as many have alluded to already this check up is really an "interim service" i suppose as opposed to a 60,000 full service.
of course it doesnt cover a basic physical check up, neither does it include any brain scans nor even a psychiatry test and as many of you know there are many different in depth tests on each and every organ we have.
i think pound for pound when you relate the cost of this test, its equivalent to a couple of good nights out in a decent restaurant.
psychologically you know its done me the power of good; i am no different to last week or last year but what a feel good factor to have a clean health report.

Yes i prefer to lend and watch or do it myself so if i break them i can shout at myself.
quite right in fact that you shouldnt lend tools, in particular electric ones or ladders.
but i am ok to give guidance as i suspect the OP is not familiiar with tools.
sure he will pm me at some stage.

I like the brass neck no messing question.
What job do you need to carry out. I have a pretty comprehensive toolkit and can lend or help no problem

Agree with brommers, use a baby detergent, in liquid format. The wife had skin irritation also and now always washes the undies separately in the gentle stuff.
You can by plain powder basically a stores own brand in the white packets.
I am happy to run with the perfumed commercial powder just for a bit of extra insurance down there.

Thanks for this. I have been fretting about doing exactly the same thing for ... waaay too long. Hope I get exactly the same results! Question: can basically the same be done at CM Ram for at least not too many more Baht? My experiences with CM Ram have been very good (for very minor events) and it is a lot more conveniently located for me. Anybody with check-up experiences there?
Never again. Just to take the ultra scan they made me drink about 4 liters of water and I had to really take a leak but they said they could not do it unless I drank all that water. You sit down and need to take a leak not to bad but they force you to drink 4 more liters of water before they can do the scan. Never again. I will not go into the poop test. That was a genuine shit-y affair.
Also had an extraa X ray taken and the doctor wanted to throw me on the table right away. some thing my two specialists in Canada had advised against and later when I saw Dr. Suthee at the Ram he explained why not to do it. The man has only seen it done once in 40 years and it is a pain that is just another part of me now.
The one thing I was wondering on the OP was about having an OK prostate test with out the rectum method. Is the ultra scan good enough.
Whilst it sounds like you were treated like a piece of meat, what you experienced I am sure is unique, and bears no resemblence whatsoever to what I went through.
Drinking water, I think I a couple of those paper cones and that was only because it was suggested I may be thirsty after no drink for 12hrs.
Regarding the prostrate, there was no knitting needle shoved anywhere and the scanner did the work, they can see problems, and can measure in 3d so they know if any organ is enlarged or out of shape. Well that's how I interpreted what I was looking at on the monitor.
There was a mention above of a premium test in Bum at a massive cost.
I had the same test not including a physical and eye check. Personally I know physically I am in good shape and an optician knows about eyes so even if that was an option I would have not bothered.
My results show at least 75 items that were checked, and I even know the size of my kidneys are 5.5x10.4 and 4.6x11.2 and my prostrate gland volume is 19.5cc.and no gallstones developing anywhere.
Impressed? I was....to all doubters,it really is a no brainer and for 4900bt.

After listening to “have you been for your health check yet?” for the last 18 months, I finally decided to get it over with.
After seeing the thread on TV towards the end of last year about the Rajavej full health check programmes, it was always “ok tomorrow”
5 months later, I sauntered into the Rajavej hospital; nervous and apprehensive, thinking if I get bad news today this will ruin my life and potentially many others. or I could continue in blissful ignorance of some nightmare developing inside me..
The question or excuse we all face is “am I brave enough now to face bad news?”
I went to the reception desk, asked for a check up; filled in a registration form; they copied my passport and asked me to wait in the check up waiting area.
I was the only farang there, all the other people were Thais, mostly ladies and about 6 in front of me.
After 15 minutes my name was called; as with most places you become Mr (forename). “which check up programme do you want?”. I asked for the premium package, everything, cost is irrelevant…..and I was then asked to step on the scales. The nurse asked how tall I was….hmm….as a diy(er) I always carry a tape, so out it came, up it went, hand on top of my head and that was it 175cm. by this time the 3 nursing staff were creased up laughing. Next the blood pressure arm wrap.
Then off to room 20 for my blood “donation” ok just a syringe full.
5 minutes later I was being taken to the x-ray department for a chest x-ray.
I had to take of my shirt, necklace, phone off, watch and stand up against a large photographic plate. The nurse pushed me onto it and I had to hug it and at the same time just take a deep breath…click..finished
Back on with the shirt….”solly sir can we do again?”
At this point you don’t know whether its incompetence or a potential problem.
I had to repeat the process, everything off…hug…click ….finished…get dressed and was then asked to wait outside.
A minute later “so solly can we do again please” ok now I am worried; this time they are sticking cellotape on my nips but we manage to find some humour in this though mine wasn’t genuine.
I was at worry stress level 8 already. Job done, finally and was taken to the ultrasound room.
Shirt off again, on the bed and my chest blathered with cold contact gel. The radiologist came in and proceeded to scan my internal organs. All very interesting stuff which I could watch on the tv screen. A series of photos were taken and several measurements.
I was verbally told everything is normal, nothing to be concerned about and the nipple encounter earlier, they were checking and double checking a shadow on the x ray. No problem all clear.I was happy for that thoroughness where there may have been doubt.
She couldn’t check the rectum properly as apparently I was full of gas… …that was no surprise, just thankful I managed to control it….as she probably was also.
Finally before I was lead from the radiology unit I was asked to “please correct urine”. For once in my life the pot given was big enough to pee in!
My final test was the ECG; So off into another room, shirt off again, on the bed and the nurse placed 4 suckered electrodes onto my hear area, two clamps on my wrists and two on my ankles. Then maybe just a 30 second tracer printout.
Finished at 11.45am only 90 minutes after first arriving and was asked to come back anytime after 2pm for the results.
Ok so at this point I had been through the tests, not paid anything yet and could still walk away and be a coward.
I returned about 5pm with confidence supplied courtesy of chang beer, back to the check up desk. The nurse remembered the handsome man, or was it me measuring myself she remembered and immediately took me to see the doctor who was going to tell me how long I had left.
Doctor Nantawat Lindkittipot went through every reading on the blood tests, urine tests, organs all meticulously.. What you want to hear is liver normal; kidneys normal; lungs normal, prostate normal, pancreas normal; colon normal, no cancer, no diabetes, low cholesterol.
CHECK-CHECK-CHECK
What a ….ing relief.
The best 4900bt I have spent since I came to Thailand.
As I was in tip top condition healthwise the doctor recommended a return visit every 12-18 month just to follow up the early onset on anything.
I left with a full report of all my results not before paying and literally dozens of tests that are concluded with just the blood and urine. (that don’t actually mean a thing to me)
I have to say with regard to the Rajajev I was looked after every step of the way feeling somewhat zombiefied for the 90 minutes at what was going on. I was never alone, never wondering where to go next, it was so well organised, each department was expecting me and welcomed me by name. compared to the UK; my experience in Thai hospitals wins hands down.
You know there is a massive difference between ignorant bliss and having a health report that confirms it. A bit of “arrogance” and “I told you so” and the feeling of immortality when I got home, that was the high it gave me.
Unfortunaltely you cannot check for death my misadventure…be careful..
If you haven’t checked up yet, then fast from 9pm tonight and go and do it tomorrow.
No appointment necessary, you can check the full programme options at www.rajavejchiangmai.com.
All asleep now?

I thought a will could be done on the back of an envelope as long as two witnesses sign it, regardless of the number of legal holes in it......well especially if its very simple
"I bequeath all my assets in thailand to my wife"
it doesn't need clause after clause does it?
As for someone with bank accounts if the pin number of the atm card can be left in an envelope to be opened on death then the wife can withdraw as and when.
If like me you have the biggest chunk in an account without atm pin card...for security....then I just wonder if the bank will accept a written statement requesting money to be transferred to another on death, or is this where the amphur office does its bit?

Don't forget to go inside and read the notice on the wall, that says tourist visa not exempt.
However it makes no reference to what the charge should be.
I think you were had.

Hilarious budI went today to get a residency certificate and to clarify about the 500bt.
the guy asked me for 500bt. I said no its free.
He then pointed out the clarification on the printed notice in his office.
It says free only if you have non immigrant visa.
If you have tourist visa it is 500bt.
Asked if I can have it now, he said no, you come back friday.
That's the concise version. The panned out version involved my paperwork being returned to me twice and told to go to thai consulate to get non imm visa then I can have for free. He also refused to give me receipt which is the cheating part for sure...I don't know why I need receipt anyway?
He then told me that on the 19th next month, the residence certificate office and the ones dealing with all the Burmese labourers will be moving to Sansai so life down there will be very peaceful in future.
Was pretty quiet there this morning, handful of westerners walking about that was it.
Funny that one person believes they can clarify this issue on the baisis of a single visit, the attempt was noble but misguided since many subsequent visitors will recieve conflicting answers, best to accept that's the way it is here.
Thanks for those pearls of wisdom.
I particularly sought the answer today because I am not one to throw away 500bt unnecessarily.
If you care to go yourself tomorrow and ask at the window maybe you can get some credence back and I may get an apology

Most hotel card entry are swiped and reprogrammed every other day and always on check out day.
Can you not do that.
In future only put your phone number on it, for return if lost and maybe personall reference 1,2,3,4 for example.
Oh, and have a spare card for each door incase it happens again.
I would also charge a deposit of at least 500bt to tenants for return of these cards.

The doctor that I saw was obviously old skool
After the obligatory weight check and blood pressure wrap he asked me to put my palm on the desk. He looked at it for 30seconds and then turned my palm over.
His verdict after looking at me was my passport was wrong and I am at least 10 yr younger than I claim..
Don't they say a good doctor can tell exactly your health by looking in your eyes and inspecting your fingernails?
We will see, I am going to do the Rajavej premium full health check tomorrow, that's got to be money well spent.

I went today to get a residency certificate and to clarify about the 500bt.
Got mine in 7 days with a slip given to me that indicated the date to pick up. At the time there was a sign on the window, saying ,in English ,there is no charge, so are you saying you are now charged 500 baht and the sign has gone ?If you don't want to pay the 500 THB it'll take 10 days - so it depends how urgently you need it

I just don't get the fuss over past atrocities and how they continue to dictate opinion. These were events in history that all had evil hated figureheads.
Yes,Germany had Hitler, Iraq had Hussein, Libya had Gadaffi, AlQuida had Bin Laden, then there were the atrocities of the Japanese thro the wars, the Polpots in Cambodia, idiot Amin in Africa, the Romans, the Vikings, the Huns, then Bush from the states and Blair from the 51st state.
England had its fair share throughout history having conquered 90% of the world at some point.....but all forgotten I think......except Jimmy Saville.
All these people created shame against humanity in some way shape or form.
It happened, its over now, move on, and most will be forgotten in the next generation.
My opinion, apologies to anyone who is currently directly affected by past atrocities of the aforementioned.

I certainly miss the speedfit plumbing aswell. Full house central heating system in a weekend, brilliant.
You might have to do it the thai way and cut and solvent weld each joint. Its easy if you get it right first time.....but that's the problem, when you spread the glue you have 5seconds to ram it home and swivel it to the right angle. If its wrong its cut it off and prepare again.
You could take all the pipework in blue plastic to a point convenient to fit the compression isolator valve/gate and then fix a metal ribbed flexi back up to the shower.
Flexis come in lengths upton 1200mm so not a major problem.
A previous poster suggested compression fittings but actually copper and fittings are not that readily available, then its a complement of spanners and pipe cutters if you are not already tooled up.

And that's exactly how they clean cut bamboo.
3days floating down the river.
They also claim thus it has been treated......another load of bollux.
To treat means to prevent further infestation.

Xen, everything you identified from the photos is correct. The tree appears healthy but I know it isn't.
You could well be spot on with the waterlogging idea. It is I feel just dropped into a pit dug in clay as my veggies wouldn't grow near here.
I will broddle with wire in the first instance, maybe plug the holes initially with some borax and sugar but I want to save the tree obviously.

We have a mature roseapple tree standing about 10m high and the trunk is only 3m from our wooden house.
It had been replanted from elsewhere before we moved here but for at least 6 months I have noticed what looks like termite pulp being expelled from a few places in the trunk at the base.
Our termite pest control man tries to tell me it is a worm or caterpillar and never seems to want to spray the tree.
My concern is that as each day passes the tree is dying, already one or two limbs have died and snapped off in the wind, but I am really worries the wind will take the tree and it will fall on our house or even kill someone
Anyone with experience and how to inject pesticide or pellets into the trunk.
The fruit incidently two crops a year are so good we cannot harvest them before the birds and squirrels way them.

As it was my thread I will say what it was about.
The point was that the mckean is another optional place to go to get a signature to enable you to apply for a driving licence.
But as with most threads we diversify and all learn something new along the way.
So we now all know about the rehab place, the care home, the lovely grounds, the monthly residence cost, the architecture, and where the place is.
So whilst I appreciate you asking to keep on track, I think on this occasion a bit of diversity is justified.

"hey up guys Dollys here again....he's in his wheelchair tonight, best breathe in a bit and let him pass.I often walk across the bridge and for the most part there are kids sitting there. Generally they see me coming and make sure I can get by with out getting in the street. e.
It would be funny though to see if he can swim"
Just hypothetical of course.

You have been open 3 days and stocked up "blind" ?
I despair at people standing on the rooftop and pointing to the "mug" tattoo on their head.
Cart before the horse comes to mind.
So what's the point of the post.....is it to advertise your ladyboy venue?
