Manila is closer to the sea than Bangkok is and yet, seafood prices in Manila's supermarkets are 2-3 times higher! Filipinos eats much more processed food, out of cans, Thais do.

Philippines has millions of English-speakers, just like India, that's why Western firms outsource some back office operations to BPO companies. Thailand does not have many fluent English speakers, that's why such service jobs don't end up here -- but Thailand has a much better manufacturing sector than the Philippines does.
