  1. Hi Scoop, most Aquaponics systems run there PH way higher, more like 6.8 and up,when I read up on EDTA it did state that at ph above 6.3 it stopped being soluble, that doesn't mean I should imagine it stops completely, but at ph closer to 7 it's just not as good as EDDHA.

I didn't know that it was toxic to fish, many thanks for that, something else I need to research

  2. Packdee, I will call them tomorrow,if they have it and can supply I owe you Beer or Dinner. many thanks.

Scoop..I hope to use a 50/50 mix of Potassium and Calcium Hydroxide to maintain my PH at 6.5 this is ideal for nutrient uptake, nitrifying bacteria and not denitrifying as I wrote before, and good for the fish, problem with EDTA at this ph is it isn't soluble so it has to be EDDHA,I emailed Wesco but as yet no reply, tomorrow will get the good lady to give them a call......Again many thanks to you both.

  3. Hi Pakdee. Telephoned the gentleman and spent half a day with him,the man was a star, trouble was he teaches Hydroponics not Aquaponics and it was Hydroponics Thai style. When I asked about PH he just shock his head basically he had not or doesn't ever check, what he gets out of the ground is what he uses. Nutrients were home made and added part a 1 litre part b 1 litre to 200 litres, there were no checks done. His system was running well but some plants especially his few Tomatoes were showing signs of nutrient deficiency. The guy was a star though, nothing was a problem, running through everything, I learnt some very useful tricks from him.

Hi Scoop. The potassium hydroxide along with Calcium Hydoxide is to buffer a falling PH which is the natural process of denitrification, when I was running just the Koi I used Oyster shells, these would buffer a low ph,because of the plants involved now and iam hoping to expand,I need the potassium as a buffer and a essential nutrient for the system. Iron chelated is also now essential to source,I will make enquiries today with your suggested company. Many thanks Guys for your replies.

  5. Hi I have read with great interest the above posts, I own a home within 30 k of the Mynamar border, ok it's in the middle of nowhere but it's very beautiful and the locals first rate. Anyway before I decided on my future plans I did the holiday thing, meeting my wife in a cooking school in Chaing Mai,that's another story.

Anyway we settled down together and built a tradional Thai wooden home, do no expensive aircon, the interior I have dry lined so at least it's not like living in a large shed,we have a gas cooker Sony tv sat dish etc. I lived there for 15 months before coming home to top up the savings and our fixed running costs for the month were,

    1710 for the motor bike,

    500 Electricity

3000. Beer, a couple of bottles watching the tv

Food not sure but we would spend 150 at the market plus whatever else we needed,

We still went out, saw friends etc, I know when I live there full time there will be extra bills, health care, Internet etc but 20000 is comfortable the extra we can save, being away from the bright lights won't suit everyone but it does me, I never felt so centred and relaxed, can't wait to go back.

  6. Hi all,

Latest update I have just spoken to my good lady and she has been granted her first visa.

She had her appointment on the 12th of this month, her passport with her freshly acquired visa neatly inside was delivered in the post today.

Once again many thanks to all the posters here and big thanks to the guys that helped with my sponsor letter.

If I can repay the compliment and help anyone else, it would be my pleasure.

Once again many thanks when, Iam sipping my Leo beer in 10 days time I will raise my glass to this forum.

  7. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone here at Thai Visa, for all the help I received.

My wife on Friday had her appointment and handed over her application and the mountain of paperwork we amassed.

The woman who dealt with Kea could not have been any more helpful, pointing out things that were wrong and actually putting it right for her.

Many thanks to the two guys who helped with my sponsor letter, that help really did make putting my letter together straight forward, finally thanks to everyone else as I have spent quite a time reading through and utilising everyone's knowledge.

My wife received a text message informing her that our application had been forwarded so now the waiting game.
