What in the world, does the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City have to do with the topic of a news article about a military exercise in Thailand?
Talk about going off topic....
Obviously you have not read the first lines..
Ignorance is bliss....

Through out human history empires have grown and empires have collapsed, the next big boy on the block is China, the US "empire" is in its twilight years and will like so many empires in history it will collapse eventually
The International Monetary Fund (IMF), the most prestigious international financial institution in the world, has rated China's ranking to number one economic superpower in the world -- surpassing those of the United States based upon the purchasing power parity of GDP indicator (gross domestic product). IMF has asserted that China produced 17% of the world gross domestic product (GDP) in 2014 exceeding U.SA's GDP of world's 16% (1). China's economic growth performance over the last 30 years has impressed development economists who took the position that China will remain in the low/middle income group of nations permanently due to its very large population -- approximately 1.2+ billion in 2015.you got to be kidding right?why don't we just invite the North Koreans while we are at it.
i wonder if the Thais cleared this with the US military before inviting the commies and their "disaster relief and peoples support exercises" bulls*it?
China is gaining power, money and military strength....While USA is struggling to keep hold on their vassals, specially these in the neighborhood of other powers.
It will get worse in future. I don't know if it is for the better or the worse.
Hahah not even in a million years would that happen. Hahahahah that a very laughable statement

Where would this forum be without posters like this pounding out baseless, groundless, unsubstantiated OPINION such as this
thrown up against the empirically demonstrable FACTS and the quantifiable, matriculated TRENDS by people who can't handle TRUTH that stares them in the face ???
***************************
Here's some TRUTH..
For the U.S to agree allowing China to be part of Cobra Gold there are reasons. Not only the Chinese are a force to be reckoned with but with I.M.F obviously having some knowledge in what's going in this world in terms of economy and buying power just confirmed that China has become the largest economy in the World. The original prediction was that China will be the leading economic power by 2020, but as the International Monetary Fund confirms, China has already taken over that position.
One has only to do some simple research on various investments coming through the Chinese State and Private enterprises in acquiring high end and prime property around the world and yes, in the U.S too, it is easy to understand how the Chinese are quietly but rapidly spreading their financial clout in all parts of the World. Some highly prestigious vineyards are now owners by Chinese, not to mention castles and top end property in Europe. One most recent piece of news was that Wanda Dalian Group, just committed over 1 Billion AUS Dollars for a hotel project in Sydney, followed by an undisclosed amount on the Gold Coast (Queensland). The same group bought the major U.S. cinema chain, AMC Entertainment Holdings, for $2.6 billion in China’s biggest corporate takeover in the United States to date. Oh.and, The Waldorf Astoria New York and the Chase Manhattan Plaza were sold to Chinese investors which means these iconic buildings in New York are now Chinese owned. Nuff said!.

Why do you suppose the Thais determine who participates in Cobra Gold?
And, for the U.S. it is an important thing to see the Chinese Army in action, and how they perform .... logistics, co-ordination. and overall efficency.
Believe me. Cobra Gold is not just about displaying the U.S. military, it's also about observing how the foriegn partners perform thier part in the exercise.
And I'm quite sure the U.S. will be quite interested in seeing how efficiently the Chinese army does or does not perform.
So, if I understand your "understanding" of why the US would invite China it's partly for observation and intelligence-gathering purposes.
I see.
Why don't you appreciate the hubris of this remark ?
The Chinese can then send a pack of Chinese Gomers with Lee Enfield 303's and U.S. Observers would come away from the exercise believing that the Chinese military skills they saw was the state of play in the Chinese Army ????
Are you serious ;-?

Brothels are in many Western countries including the United States. Not specific to ThailandBetter stop closing down all those brothels then.

What about your butler, has he changed? They really hate us here you know! Just more proof.
I have the proof.....nobody hates me here for the 8 years that i have been living in Thailand.
There always be thugs around that this doesn't mean you can speak about all Thais hating foreigners.
It's not that I condone this kind of violent behaviour. That being said, 22 years in Thailand, I've never encountered any trouble, except for minor issues, perhaps with a taxi trying to over charge or something silly.
We've raised our children, who are now in grown up and left. My driver has been the same person for 8 years. Same as the maid. All of them absolutely loyal, kind and human.
I feel bad when such unpleasant and violent issues come up.
There are different kinds of foreigners who live in Thailand. Those who are in high positions as expatriates and yes with butlers as well, who have all the comforts and experience very respectable and comfortable lifestyles. Then there are the good for nothin losers who have nowhere else to go, so they bitch about the country for each and everything but tend to stick here.
One might want to check out the lifestyle the high earnings expatriates have. Yes, we do have help for the house, cars and for work. C'est la vie.

I really cannot understand the discrimination and the derogatory comments people make against Thai's.Some of these can only come from imbeciles or /and vile weasels

Costa's let's talk about runs on Greek banks before addressing "the usual" mentality shall we ?In my Poll, Thai people don't earn enough to cover the repayments of the loans they have taken.
It's the usual mentality.......live for today forget about tomorrow.
Repossessions have already started.....the loan sharks are in full business.
Give happiness to the people................
True that...

how much damage and you do to an ATM? really?
It's not a question of how much. It's a question of damaging public or others property.

Ah, so it isn't just Thai males who don't have the testicles to fight one on one .
I was wondering when the Thai's are going to be dragged into this. Here we are...

Australian government has agreed to triple the frequency of flights between China and Australia. Obviously realising the huge potential to bring on valuable tourism revenue.

No where it's mentioned that the former girlfriend is a Thai. But most of the comments are on default mode....

It's a good story. I miss the conspiracy theories though ?

Exactly. Stupid and insensitive comments.

Strange comment, even in jest, what if it was your mother or grandmother, great outcome and a big thanks to all that searched for her.Perhaps she got lost after she found the mushrooms

It's amazing how people can make derogatory and racist remarks against all Asians because of an Alleged fraud that might have taken place in this case. Only Morons who do not have two cents worth of brains would make stupid comments like not doing any business with Asian countries. Perhaps attempting some simple 3rd grade reading as to how much China, Japan and the rest of Asia contributes to the Western economy would be highly useful.

Of course the Chinese were wrong, Thai are NEVER wrong. When have you ever heard of a Thai company cheating someone? It is unheard of!
In reality, it's probably just two sets of partners that deserve each other. Just a reminder to never do business with any Asian company, or business partner.

By the way, people who oppose drugs and the consequences of this evil, should be happy with the Indonesian President that he makes a noise.

It's not a question of smuggling IN or OUT of the country. Was it okay to smuggle drugs OUT of Indonesia. As much as I do not wish anyone to go through this terrible experience, one can only imagine the untold destruction and pain that the 8 kg hard core drugs would have brought to innocent people and their families in Australia. US still has capital punishment in some States and the law of the country needs to be understood and respected. Indonesia is imposing this harsh rule to everyone irrigardless of where one comes from.

It's up to the people who make the choice to work wherever, due to the need for jobs and income. Often in US Mexicans are scammed by landowners and there was a similar story in Australia also recently. In life you make choices. If Thailand is undesirable it's best to find places that are desirable, leaving the hundreds of thousands of happy expatriates who enjoy the comforts and hospitality to continue to earn and live in this country.

As mentioned, many are from neighbouring countries operated by the mafia. The main task therefore is to get rid of the mafia. Homeless people are found in many countries and even in cities like New York. Good examples of not having these problems are Singapore, Hong Kong etc but how they manage this is another story. But for starters it's a welcome effort.

As China becomes the leading economic power, it is natural that others countries shift alliances. Obama’s recent visit as the first U.S President to attend Indian’s Independence Day Celebrations is evidence major shifts especially with a loose gun like Putin on the prowl.
The following if just one of hundreds of Massive projects that China that not only stimulates it’s own economy but enhancing global economy.
The world's largest airport is to be built in China, designed by a British architect.
Beijing's Daxing Airport, will be built over just three years in the Daxing district to the south of the Chinese capital. The new airport will operate in addition to the current airport and will have capacity for at least 100 million passengers per year. It will have a staggering seven runways and is expected to ease congestion elsewhere. Beijing's current airport has three terminals. The area occupied by Terminal Three alone is larger than the whole of London's Heathrow Airport combined. Boeing and Airbus both expect the Chinese market to be their most important growth area over the coming decade as government regulatory reforms take hold and consumer behavior changes.
Of course Thailand is right in looking at it’s benefits with the spectacular growth of China.
