Have you ever tried other sources in Thailand? I usually have progressive, transitional lenses made in Thailand, but one time the optician (at Euro Optics in Pattaya) said she could order new lenses from Germany if I wanted. Seemed like a good idea, but when they came they were really horrible. Don't know if they were Zeiss, but I felt like I was in a warped fish bowl. Gave me headaches. Went back and had them redone using lenses made in Bangkok. Not any cheaper than the German ones, but absolutely no warping or distortion.

Not sure if there is a Euro Optics branch in Bangkok, but if you can't find the Zeiss lenses you're accustomed to getting, you might talk to someone at Rutnin or Bangkok Hospital and explain your concern. I'm sure you're not the only one who needs really strong lenses. From my limited experience at these ubiquitous cut-rate opticians you might end up with the Coke bottle type lenses, but the hospitals mentioned should have English fluent staff who understand your concern. As you probably already know, that sort of quality isn't cheap though.

I e mailed the Rutin Hospital had a reply saying they do not get involved and never have with prescriptions or glasses so seems strange

I know exactly the problem with fish bowl effect that because the lens were made semi circular thats what gives that effect straight lens will not give fishbowl

Now i'm going to explore your tip with Euro Optics see if I can find them here in Bangkok

Its easier to buy a new car in Bangkok than it is to get some decent glasses.

Your reply from Rutin is a prime example, as they have an opticians on the ground floor next to the main reception where you can buy glasses/lenses or get a copy of your prescription after having your eyes checked out upstairs.

Most other places seem completely disinterested to even sell the glasses never mind check with their supplier/office if they have stock of a specific colour/model frame even though they have plenty of other models from that specific brand on display.

I'm not sure if its the same back in the west, but all that is available for sale in ALL the main opticians are the frames on display, no one will be interested in getting you a 'new' set, payment up front or otherwise.

I eventually found somewhere 'The Next - Art for eyes' who were quite happy to order some frames from their supplier that weren't on display, excellent service, good discount, etc etc...

One will be extremely hard pressed to get the Thai police to do such an investigation and/or sign their name to it.

Waste of time very few of the "you can't live in Thailand for under 10 million baht a month" brigade ever break down their expenses.

 

I suspect if they did their spending wouldn't quite add up to what they claim and obviously they don't want to tell the world how much they spend on lady drinks and p4p so it wouldn't be realistic anyway.

Entirely depends on where you live. I spend about 200 baht a day on food and probably over eat. If you're eating steaks and cheeseburgers from Western style restaurants - no 200 baht won't be enough. A simple fried dish runs 25-40 baht x 3 + a couple snacks = 200 baht.

I spend around 1000-1500B a week on food and that's a mix of street food, local restaurants, Western and chain places and Tops and Villa Market stuff.

I would find it difficult to spend much more a week on food.

Been to RCA plenty of times solo and pick up often there.

 

Not hard to meet people if you are young, decent looking, and sociable.

 

It isn't all that different to picking up at clubs in any other city.

 

 

You get one night stands often from RCA? How often?

 

Whilst it's definitely possible and I've done it and seen other guys do it I've yet to see anyone do it regularly.

 

Usually need a bit of luck, i.e. girl is drunk, she somehow manages to escape her friends, no cockblocker friends out that night.

 

One night stands are just not common in Thailand. 

 

Try thonglor, cheaper drinks, posh crowd, rubbish muzik, hot girls, liberated women.

Some places are OK but it's not a good area for one night stands IME. RCA is definitely more likely. 

 

Tried it tons of times and all I can see is don't even bother. First of all that place is infested with other foreigners too and why would they go for a loner, a guy with no friends. They worry too much about what other people think. 

 

Second they tend to stick to their groups. It takes a lot more than just confidence, looks and a smooth talk. Based on my experience I would say its near impossible so I wouldn't even try. 

 

If you are in Route 66 it's filled with other farang. It's mentioned in the Lonely Planet so what did you expect?

That sounds about right.

By far the best results are to be had if you go with a group of a few thais, guys or guys with their gfs. The birds on the surrounding tables will pretty much lose their reservations about getting chatted up by a white guy the second you walk in.

The truth is, if you can be bothered with it and have enough confidence you will actually do far better at chasing 8+ pussy alone than in a group. Thai birds will immediately be on the back foot with a group of white guys if you look like anything less than a cheesy bent pop star.

It's 100% down to how high you set the bar as to how well you will do. By the end of the night, there'll be pissed up 6's and 7's approaching you, but to land anything exceptional it will likely take quite a few visits tho.

If you check a timeline from 2011 it could be worse this time round. The rain seems much heavier and much more consistent. At this time in 2011 only 25 provinces were flooded, upto 27 this year already.
