I don't think people here are anti Thai just some people here seem to have a superiority complex over our hosts and most posts perceive Thais to be lazy incompetent etc etc
Why don't you PM a mod to close all the oil spill threads? The PTT guy in charge of the mess/cleanup said it would all be cleaned up by yesterday morning.

I heard plodprasop is about to buy a super yacht for the government to divert the spill.
Perhaps the local boats could form a line put their propellers on to divert it?

Well.. its gone midnight now. The ptt guy said it would all be cleared up by now, I'm at the edge of my seat to see these pictures of a pristine Ao Prao bay in the morning when the sun comes up

The only reason I rooted mine was due to the best backup app requiring root access to enable a bare metal backup synced to cloud storage, or the nearest thing offered anyways.
The battery life does seem a little worse.

Take the bike with you and they might be able to work out whqt you want?

It's a shame that someone has to die before these taxi drivers see the error in their ways.
See post #2 above for further details.
Podt #2 has disappeared.

Lucky for the loser this wasn't in Thailand. Had it been, all the guy throwing the punches supporters would have been rushing in to jump on the losers head, take cheap shots etc etc...

How long do you get inside in Canada for gbh?
Exactly. Kicking someone in the head who is down is almost an automatic prison sentence in a most civilised countries.

Any idea how to apply patch on centos 5/6 ?

They are ignoring them. It was my mistake to tell to the neighbour the harassment should stop. It has been going on for months, at they don't seem to get bored. I know it was not smart.Everything here is aty (according to you). Your neighbour is selling drugs. He hired a mafiatype, bad smelling and chainsmoking. Could be a familymember? Aty to insult your staff, if your staff ignores him, he will soon get tired.
If your inlaws is anywhere as rich and powerfull, as you claim, leave it to them to solve the problems (if any?). This is Thai business, stay out of it!
My wife's family is not powerful. They both lost their parents when they were still children and they didn't even have shoes. They were very poor - No background from a rich family. Via hard work, a bit good luck, and good investments they are where they are today. I wouldn't call them rich either.
They were much richer than you could ever dream of being about 5x posts ago? With enough 'money to buy 50x of these businesses if they wanted to'.... why not go any buy another 2 somewhere else?

Whenever I have had anything sent from the Us via DHL or Fed EX I have ben hit with coustoms duty adn VAT. When I use USPS I have only been hit with VAT so far. I guess that it's the luck of the draw but so far DHL and FEd Ex have been loosers.
I had something delivered from the US with fedex last week. 7% only. Which they only charged on the shipping and not the fairly expensive item for some reason.
Previous 5x shipments through usps, no tax.
I guess customs are busy chasing up some slightly larger and more lucrative imports right now

a bit like any other city in the World then...
You can harp on about the skytrain and mrt as much as you like but the fact remains that the cities roads grind to a gridlocked halt at least two times daily.Excellent shopping, restaurants, infrastructure (subway/skytrain), airport, CBD, it's all there and much of it is very good quality.
Yeeeep.. I see the clowns are out of bed who have nothing better to do than defend the indefensible.
I like Bangkok as I've lived here long enough to learn how to avoid the traffic unless getting stuck in it is absolutely necessary. BUT, without fail everyone I know who comes to visit ends up getting caught out and pissed off by it.
And the governments most recent action = Encouraging people who probably can't afford cars to go and buy one.

Or perhaps giving tax incentives to first time buyers might improve the situation?

All the godaddy style hosts are a scam. $30 for the first years hosting then they automatically bill you 3-4x that when the first year is up.

not my impression, it moves a lot from side to side in the wind if my eyes arent mistakenErm.. I wouldn't call it a ballon 'ride'. The thing is secured by about 20 wire ropes and has zero lateral movement. Simply up a few feet, then down.
Oh wow.. well worth 1k then.

Almost everywhere gives those out I think. If your on a 60 day tourist visa u can even get that converted.

An 8 kilometer fare with no holds up would be 73 baht, no way could it be just 51-check next time you take a taxiT
Troy was picked up from Central Bagna about 8km away from Soi 68 and so the fare of 51 baht sounds about right.
One news story cites 'the passengers claims that the meter was rigged' but that probably came from the taxi murderer. Another talks about 'coffee being flung' in the murderer's face and another about water. The meter may indeed have been rigged but was re-adjusted to show 51 baht after the event?
.
I'd be surprised if it was much more than 5km. So 51 appears to br spot on.

Just something to think about. How often do we hear about foreigners getting violently assaulted for disputing a taxi or tuk tuk fare? Too often!
Maybe Piklington paid the cabby something before getting out of the cab? We don't know. Maybe he paid nothing? We don't know. Maybe he threw coffee on the cabby? We don't know. Maybe he didn't throw coffee on the cabby? We don't really know.
What do we know? Only what the cabby has disclosed to the BIB, and what the BIB has disclosed to the press. And we know what we see on the video, although it has been interpreted in more than one way by various posters on TV. I've looked at the slow motion video a bunch of times. The video clearly starts showing the cabby, armed with a long machete (way longer then 12 inches) taking a swing at Piklington who is standing, unarmed, in a sideways position. Was he getting ready to try to run or was he preparing to attempt to defend himself? No one will ever know.
He may be fabricating the story or he may be telling the truth. We don't know. Either way though, the video shows the cabby attacking an unarmed man with a deadly weapon that led to that man's death. The reason for the attack will probably only come into play during the cabby's trial -- was the act a murder or manslaughter? From my perspective, I look at the video and I see a murder. But that's up to the Thai judicial system to figure out based on the results of a BIB investigation. Most of us probably won't like the outcome, but it's not our say.
Let me give you another scenario that should have happened. If Pilkington bilked the cabby for his fare, and/or threw coffee on him, the cabby could have called the BIB. He could have taken a picture of Pilkington with his cell phone. He could have yelled "Thief, thief, thief" and enlist others to apprehend and detain Pilkington until the BIB showed up and then press charges. Or he could just accept that he got screwed over. Like, that's what is expected of us foreigners. We're pretty much expected to just roll over and accept rip-offs, and most of us do just that. What's the alternative? Getting into an unwinnable confrontation with a Thai National?
Personally I hope the SOB taxi driver gets throw in jail until he rots. And I wish the Thai government would take steps to stop the criminal assaults on foreigners by taxi drivers, tuk tuk drivers, jet ski operators, and other rip-off artists who use physical violence to intimidate foreigners who use their services or visit their establishments.
But, This is Thailand. I'm not going to hold my breath.
You don't get out of a secure/safe car armed with a samurai sword to defend yourself ;-)

Linksys have VoIP gateways with an FX0 port that should be available most places. If thats not what your looking for why not just add a SIP client to you smartphone?

A local install of some collaboration software would manage it and any other similar document and also likely fix other issues you have in regards to data sharing etc. There is a community edition of feng office that would fit the bill.
