  1. I'm confused.

When I asked you to state the precise application you only stated the general trade it was to be used in.

"looking for 1 1/2 and 2" flexible PVC to be used in the aquarium trade."

So why did you go to 3 pool shops and not 3 aquarium shops?

Also can you be more precise about the ribbed (flexible) pipe's application. Exactly how is it to be used and for what purpose.

  2. Well I definitely (not defiantly) "got what I paid for".

A perfectly translated 2000 word menu for £40.

Not simply by accepting the lowest quotation but speaking with the translator to ensure she was not only a native Russian speaker but also had an excellent grasp of the English language. That's the way to ensure quality.

  3. You can be "defiant" as much as you want about not being near retirement age, but, it's "definite" you will get there some day (barring accidents and illness).

    Whoooooosh, straight over FlyByNights' head!!!

  4. Doesn't have to be expensive if you know where to search.

When I decided to get our menus translated into Russian last year I put an ad on Gumtree (UK) specifying the precise requirements of the job and requesting quotations. Received 15 responses from Russian nationals working/studying in the UK with varying prices.

I settled on a Russian female working near my home city and after sending her a copy of our 22 page menu she emailed saying she would translate the menu for £40 (2000Bt).

She did a great job so I paid her more as It was so cheap.

If anyone wants to use her I still have her contact details.

  5. We installed 3 systems in each of our restaurants here in Phuket over a year ago and they've worked faultlessly.

After undertaking extensive research of various POS systems (all of which were in my view massively overpriced) we eventually bought the software from a brit expat (lives in Phuket) who developed his own and sourced the hardware; 17" touch screen monitors, thermal printers, PCs and cash draws in BKK.

We actually closed our beach restaurant last month so we have a full working system available to sell. If you're interested PM me and I'll send you the full software and hardware specification.

  6. In your opening post you made no mention whatsoever about your proposed use.

"looking for 1 1/2" and or 2" flexible PVC piping?

Not plastic hose material but flexible PVC piping?

its readily available in the US but never saw it here? anyway knows?"

And in the above post you only state that it's "especially used" as an aquarium and pond designing and plumbing tool not specifically that you want it for that purpose.

Anyway, I would print a large clear picture of the product, find a local aquarium shop or supplier (loads all over Thailand) and show them the picture. If they don't have it they will most likely know where you will find it.

Did you try doing as I suggested?

I take it, from the lack of response, that's a no then.

  8. Agree with all above. Stayed there numerous times prior to actually moving here. The staff are wonderful and the pool area really is lovely. I never spent too much time in the rooms so that element never bothered me. A complete lack of dirty old men bringing back nana and cowboy girls is a another good reason to stay there.

So we can assume that you have no problem with 'clean' old men, dirty young men or clean young men bringing back nana and cowboy girls.

  10. They have steel carabiners of varying types and sizes in Homepro and Homeworks here in Phuket from around 60Bt upwards depending on size. I use them for a number of uses but none that would endanger life should they fail.

The OP doesn't actually state what use they're going to be put to so not sure how high a quality is required.

They are also easily sourced from any marine chandlery.

  11. Yes, cheers, found it earlier. Unfortunately they're closed today for Buddha Day. Will go back tomorrow.

Off back to UK on 12 for short break so I don't hold out much hope for a quick enough turnaround. Probably have to get repair done in UK.

  12. Is anyone able to confirm the location of a Samsung service centre on the island dealing with computers. I've been informed that my laptop requires a new motherboard.

The information I have at the moment is Phang Nga Road. Will go this morning to check it out.

    Thanks.

  13. Yes chipboard and particle board are the same product. Unfortunately no Global down here.

Think I'll have to take up some of the 15mm I've used in other rack shelving, use that for the sliding cupboard doors and replace with 18mm. Bit OTT but, when needs must.

  14. So, having sourced and purchased the aluminium track, rollers and plunger lock (75Bt) I trot off to Homeworks to pick up a sheet of 15mm chipboard from the huge palette load that's always there.

Only this time all of the palette of 15mm is gone and there's only 12mm and 18mm left. Someone only went and bought the whole palette in one go.

"So when you getting some more 15mm?" I enquired.

"3 months time" came the response.

    Its a bloody conspiracy.

    So, the question now is:

does anyone know of any other supplier of 15mm chipboard on the island?

I've just tried all of the obvious timber and sheet material suppliers on both sides of the By-Pass road but no luck. They have only plywood, MDF or cement board.

  15. Looking for a shop around Phuket stocking aluminium channel. Am building some stockroom cupboards with sliding doors and want to use for the door track. Anyone know of anywhere. (I've looked around Patong but it's all bent reclaimed type rubbish.)

Bit like this (top and bottom channels) except I'll recess some rollers into the base of the doors in place of the nylon guides:
