  1. In your opening post you made no mention whatsoever about your proposed use.

"looking for 1 1/2" and or 2" flexible PVC piping?

Not plastic hose material but flexible PVC piping?

its readily available in the US but never saw it here? anyway knows?"

And in the above post you only state that it's "especially used" as an aquarium and pond designing and plumbing tool not specifically that you want it for that purpose.

Anyway, I would print a large clear picture of the product, find a local aquarium shop or supplier (loads all over Thailand) and show them the picture. If they don't have it they will most likely know where you will find it.

  2. They have steel carabiners of varying types and sizes in Homepro and Homeworks here in Phuket from around 60Bt upwards depending on size. I use them for a number of uses but none that would endanger life should they fail.

The OP doesn't actually state what use they're going to be put to so not sure how high a quality is required.

They are also easily sourced from any marine chandlery.

  3. Yes, cheers, found it earlier. Unfortunately they're closed today for Buddha Day. Will go back tomorrow.

Off back to UK on 12 for short break so I don't hold out much hope for a quick enough turnaround. Probably have to get repair done in UK.

  4. Is anyone able to confirm the location of a Samsung service centre on the island dealing with computers. I've been informed that my laptop requires a new motherboard.

The information I have at the moment is Phang Nga Road. Will go this morning to check it out.

    Thanks.

  5. Yes chipboard and particle board are the same product. Unfortunately no Global down here.

Think I'll have to take up some of the 15mm I've used in other rack shelving, use that for the sliding cupboard doors and replace with 18mm. Bit OTT but, when needs must.

  6. So, having sourced and purchased the aluminium track, rollers and plunger lock (75Bt) I trot off to Homeworks to pick up a sheet of 15mm chipboard from the huge palette load that's always there.

Only this time all of the palette of 15mm is gone and there's only 12mm and 18mm left. Someone only went and bought the whole palette in one go.

"So when you getting some more 15mm?" I enquired.

"3 months time" came the response.

    Its a bloody conspiracy.

    So, the question now is:

does anyone know of any other supplier of 15mm chipboard on the island?

I've just tried all of the obvious timber and sheet material suppliers on both sides of the By-Pass road but no luck. They have only plywood, MDF or cement board.

  7. Good suggestion of Chalong Aluminium and Glass (co-ordinates 7.841711,98.349631)

by walker800 on the closed thread.

    6m (19mm x 19mm x 1mm) for 170Bt. Bargain

  8. Looking for a shop around Phuket stocking aluminium channel. Am building some stockroom cupboards with sliding doors and want to use for the door track. Anyone know of anywhere. (I've looked around Patong but it's all bent reclaimed type rubbish.)

Bit like this (top and bottom channels) except I'll recess some rollers into the base of the doors in place of the nylon guides:

  10. No fighting over who knows best to be seen. Just someone adding 2+2, getting an answer of 5 and taking offence when none was even hinted at.

Good luck with your turfing if you believe that's the solution to your initial problem.

    Topic closed for my part.

  11. NBM can be an acronym for many things, in many different fields. For exmple, Nil By Mouth, National Bank of Moldova, Nederlands Bureau der Motorrijtuigverzekeraars, New Business Model, Neonatal Bacterial Meningitis etcetera. Take your pick.

Is there anything you'd like to discuss that's topic related?

Hmmm, you picked me up for not understanding BM, which l must point out was a bit off topic smile.png .

NBM, for you means Newbie Board Member laugh.png . Now, as your are an expert in the OP's field l would respectfully suggest you download a spell check as your customers might get the wrong idea. smile.png

Only because you made a point of highlighting your lack of understanding. I assumed you were looking for enlightenment.

I don't believe my spelling is so poor that I need a dedicated spellchecker although being human I have been known to make the odd error.

Where did you get the idea that I have customers (who you say might get the wrong impression) connected to my field of expertise?

  13. Not qute sure how anyone is in a position to suggest a relistic working solution to the OP's problem without having a resonable understanding of the failure mechanism, the subsoil structure or the slope geometry, none of which has the OP described in sufficient detail.

You seem to be new so just a quick side bar. The de-facto model in Thailand for just about any sort of construction related thing is to just make something up without having expertise. Sort of like everyone tries to reinvent the wheel but the shape is always a little off. It won't work right and fail quickly, then you go through repair and replace cycles over and over trying to patch it up. This is seen as the normal way. In our countries we would implement proven techniques developed by professionals with guaranteed results that would be long lasting and sure. It is a very contrasting approach. I do hope the OP posts pictures to see your ideas which I imagine will be pretty good.

Not new at all, although I completely understand your sentiments having managed a number of construction projects over the years utilising local expertise in relation to our businesses here in Phuket. However this forum, I assume, is predominantly farang populated so I would expect the vast majority of the BM's to have a farang mindset in this respect.

Never been called a ''BM'' before. ermm.gif

Eh! I assume you're being serious based on the expression of the smiley you've added to your post.

Well, BM=Board Member=Forum Member. A pretty universal internet acronym for members of forums such as this.

A search for "BM" using the top right search box returns hundreds of posts using this acronym on this site alone.

  16. As a civil engineer in my previous life for 30 years I've been involved with soil and slope stabilisation solutions on scores of projects from small landscaping works to motorway and bridge construction projects employing both high tech and low tech solutions.

It really would make life easier to assist you if you would persevere with getting a couple of photo's posted.

  17. I'm sure the OP does have a point, but I'd still like him/her to clarify what that point is.

You say many of the best restaurants in Bangkok are run by foreigners...

Depends on the criteria you use to define best however, regardless, your statement automatically implies that the remainder (whether the majority or the minority) of the best restaurants in Bangkok aren't run by foreigners.

  18. I'm struggling to see the OP's point.

That it takes a foreigner to teach this nation how to cook their own food.

It might be that is what the OP is implying. If so, as chiang mai said above, the OP is seriously misguided.

All that can be truly inferred is that he's pointing out that it takes a farang to ("do it") get onto the Pellegrino & Panna's "The World's 50 Best Restaurants" list.

    http://www.theworlds50best.com/

I was hoping that the OP would respond to my question to clarify.

  19. Steve, we'll be shortly looking at sourcing a large quantity of trees and plants for a resort landscaping project. Does this place in Surat have a large variety and are you able to let me know its precise location?

    yes and 9.106292,99.32844

Thanks. Those two numbers look very precise but mean nothing to me. Could you elaborate?

They are coordinates. Cut and paste the number in to Google Earth or Google Maps for the precise location.

    Thanks.
