  1. Thanks for the excellent advice Chicog.

I actually bought the 8" Yoga from Amazon a couple of days ago. Free next day delivery for £130.

I did consider the Tab 3 Plus 10" which you suggest, on sale in UK now, but couldn't justify the £299 price tag for the purposes I wanted a secondary machine.

I must say I'm rather impressed with the build quality of the Yoga Tab 3 8" and particularly with the Dolby sound coming from the two front facing speakers. It's also the perfect size for my purposes.

  2. I'm back in UK for a few months and have decided to buy a budget tablet of some description essentially for travel use (media viewing), general out and about use and sofa surfing.

My main workhorse is a Surface Pro 2 set up in my home office connected to a large monitor.

After doing some research I'm leaning toward the Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 either 8" or 10"

With respect to the 8" version

Argos sells a 1GB RAM version at £110  Argos 1GB version click here

Ebuyer sells the 2GB Ram version at £130  Ebuyer 2GB version click here

Additionally, although I use a Galaxy android phone, I really haven't utilised the android operating system sufficiently to understand what it's capable of as against windows which, with the surface pro, I use everyday for intensive applications.

Any thoughts on the above would be most appreciated.

    Well said Shot

As another poster has alluded, we who actively contribute to the forums by posting useful information for the benefit of all, including non-contributors, are a free asset to TV. We're not simply takers.

The ads are simply too intrusive for me so this morning I decided to actively seek a workaround and, with the help of others on the internet, succeeded.
No gormless ad-block warning, no delay and no ads. Sweet.

Funny how some people think they owe TV a favor

No posters and no readers especially and TV would cease to exist

No one would advertise on the site, that's how they make their money like all web sites

"Funny how some people think they owe TV a favor"

    ???

"No posters and no readers especially and TV would cease to exist"

Posters (the contributors) are TVs free, valuable asset. Without posters, readers (the takers) would have nothing to read

"No one would advertise on the site, that's how they make their money like all web sites"

Without the free input of the posters (the contributors) there would be no readers consequently no advertisers

That's why, as a contributor, I'm comfortable with blocking what I consider to be overly intrusive ads and circumventing the newly imposed delay restriction.

  6. I would absolutely support MM's statement that:

"the vast majority of tourists to Phuket have a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, don't encounter the scams and rip-offs and many will continue to return year after year."

I do so from a reasonably informed position in that I speak, on a daily basis, with so many customers of diverse nationalities, ages and demography dining at our restaurant.

Seldom do I hear from any customers of any negative encounters even when, as I often do, highlight some of the blatant, and not so blatant, scams/rip-offs.

  7. Instead of paying for scans why not take photo's of the required pages at your leisure and in the comfort of your own home.

Once you have a digital copy you can do with them what you wish.

Simply save as JPEGs for viewing, print them or convert them to other formats depending on your end usage

    Click on the  the attachments.

I took a photo of a page of my trusty Oxford English and uploaded to my laptop.

Then got it converted online for free to editable word and PDF documents.

Depends how you define a business.  The proper definition is something that you can put a manager in to create a passive income for you as the owner.  Otherwise it is not a business, it is just creating yourself a job.  So by the above definition, Amigo will never become a viable business.  At best the new own will create himself a job.  At worst he will blow his key money like so many other before him.

"Depends how you define a business. The proper definition is something that you can put a manager in to create a passive income for you as the owner"

Apologies for going slightly off topic but from where on earth did you find that bizarre definition of "a business"?

A business is any entity established with the intention to provide goods or services in expectation of receiving remuneration by way of reciprocal receipt of goods, services or, as is normally the case, money. How that entity is organised/managed has absolutely no relevance to its identity as being "a business".

A lot of people here on Thaivisa love to open their gizzards with no clue or facts behind their statements. It is not "a couple weeds", it is an overgrown lot growing in some places over 20 feet tall, breeds all kinds of mosquito's that carry dengue and malaria, and tons of snakes etc.

I have a child and worry for my family. All of you people recommending that I "cut it myself" have no idea the severity of the issue but continue to talk about it....you people that have nothing better to do than to repeat others' "dumb" words need to get a life instead of trolling 24/7 on peoples thai visa posts. Straight up. Losers.

How about you post a picture then we can all see the severity of the issue, particularly where you state encroachment is occurring i.e. "growing over my wall".

  10. Have decided, at long last, to replace the original wooden framed balcony door unit to our bedroom over looking busy Rat-u-Thit in the heart of Patong as, due to warping and rotting, traffic noise and pedestrian chatter leak through like crazy.

My initial feeling is to go with uPVC sliders with a fixed top panel

Any recommendations from experience on style, suppliers or any tips would be most appreciated.

  12. I'll be flying in to HKT (mid December) for the first time since the new terminal opened, UK - Dubai - HKT, using Emirates as usual.

Any quirks I should know about or is everything reasonably smooth and straightforward?

    Cheers

  13. NKM asked: "however it is in the wrong part of town." - question is, where, exactly, is the right part of town, these days????

Depends on several factors including but not exhaustively; what you're attempting sell, to whom you're attempting to sell and how you're attempting to sell.

I agree, but if we were to look at tourism related industries, particularly hospitality, I think you will find revenue is down, island wide.

NKM, I was simply responding to your, probably rhetorical, question. I offered no view with respect to "island wide" levels of tourism or associated revenue.

  15. Hi Folks

Just back from KL and my power cord has just split. Can't find a replacement in Jungceylon.

Have ordered a replacement to be delivered to UK as going back at weekend but was wondering if anyone in Patong or locally could let me have the use of theirs to get a full charge.

    Thanks
