My wife and half of the Thais on my FB friends list have the app picture on their profiles.
Just goes to show how many people hate this crap.

Other commentary on the subject raised the figure of around 130 Billion.
I wonder who is going to pay this loan back if the scheme has no monry on a consistent annual basis?
Oh.... I forgot... They will take it off the farangs at the airport.

PTP are rightly sensing an 'end of days'.
They are now squirming like rabbits in headlights.
They seem to be desperately looking for a way to get the people off the streets. I think it is the beginning of the end, and maybe this political Armageddon that was forecast is actually playing out.

What a stupid statement by Yingluck: how can the Democrats fight this in Parliament with a PT majority and a biased chief whip?
Don't forget the 'gagging' of the Dems in the house whenever they rock the boat.
We all know the speakers are firmly in the pocket.

This just gets better and better.
So the common consensus is that a lot of the protesters will continue their protest even if the bill is rejected.
So what they are saying is that once the bill is kicked out, they are switching their protest efforts to ousting this tin pot, corrupt government.
I smell a coup around the corner.

Remember the ex transport minister that got billions of baht stolen from his house when he was at his daughters wedding? He will be let off with this amnesty deal. They all will. It is several shades of wrong to even consider this nonsense amnesty bill. All for what? So a tin pot dictator can return with his face intact. Shame on the reds and PTP for this farce.
The Nation, Dec, 21st 2011:
"Part of the banknotes seized after last month's robbery at the suspended Transport permanent secretary's home were found to be linked to certain private companies that won bidding for Transport Ministry projects, according to the national anti-graft agency."Just goes to show.
That was only 5 months of taking office and one minister already managed to channel billions out of the coffers and into his own pocket.
This guy would be doing life in prison in almost all countries and a lot of those countries would have executed him in a heartbeat.
Sorry to compare this with the UK, I know they are completely different countries. But even if a fraction of this level of corruption happened there, I could guarantee a revolution from the people. The majority of the people here just accept it.
I wonder how many billion baht is stolen each year by the government as a whole, and what that could do for the poor people. Instead, Thailand has its hand out to the UN's World Food Program because they reckon they can't feed their children here.
Shameless beggars.

I'm speechless.
25,331 cases of corruption. I knew it was rotten to the core, but this number is astounding.
Then to try to push this through while the country is already undergoing a review by the UN..... beyond words really.
Then when they talk of 'shoring up the country's reputation in the international community'...... who in their right mind would want to shore up this kind of reputation? Don't they mean 'improve the country's reputation'??
It has long passed the stage where corruption can be stopped here.... Unless they implemented a standard rule of 'IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION' pending investigation. With 20 year prison sentences for those found guilty and seizure of all assets (including spouse).
Maybe one day a prime minister will come along and really start clamping down on corruption, but then again. I doubt he would last 2 weeks before being assassinated.

I think that you guys are really stuck in "anger" mode.
Whatever is said or done your comments won't vary. Always the same comments coming again and again and again... and again.
This country is at a standstill because of the hatred of some people for only one man. Astonishing.
Hopefully there are some more mature people who can put aside the anger to find solutions.
Sent from my iPhone...
Nothing to do with anger.
The only solution is to see justice done. That is what everyone on here is saying, no anger in that.
The only anger I see, is that YOU get angry every time someone comments in a way that does not fit your own personal narrative.

Dear People,
The country has sustained damage inflicted by political conflict for the past 10 years.Mostly at the hands of your brother.
After I was elected to take office, I believe every Thai citizen agreed the country would not move forward if the conflict persisted. Most of the conflict during your term has been against you governments stupid failing policies.
When this government took office, I announced a clear policy to bring about reconciliation under the rule of law. Recently, I pushed to form a political-reform venue where all differing sides could join hands to mend fences and foster unity. But you are circumventing the 'rule of law' in every conceivable way.
Under the democratic principle of balanced sharing of powers, the government - particularly myself as the prime minister - has refrained from interfering with the legislature, as seen in the case of amending the Constitution.Come again??
I have been wrongly accused of neglecting to perform my concurrent duty as MP when, in fact, I want the legislature to freely do its job.Rightly accused.
In regard to the recent House vote for the passage of the amnesty bill, which has spawned much public debate, it is a fact that countries, when mired in political conflict causing loss of lives and properties, would grant amnesty. Thailand should emulate the amnesty lesson. You mean spawned much 'public outrage'.... there is a difference.
It is a fact that corrupt nations and banana republics would grant amnesty and Thailand should NOT emulate this.
In principle, amnesty is an option worthy of consideration. If all sides agree to forgive each other, I believe the conflict would dissipate and the country would move on.Pie in the sky.
It is to be regretted that hundreds of people were killed and thousands were injured in the political violence triggered by attempts to overthrow an elected government.
Amnesty does not mean we should forget this painful lesson. We are obliged to learn and understand, so that our children would not face a repeat of such tragedies. While amnesty is a 'get out of jail free card'... our children WILL face a repeat of such tragedies.
In the meantime, we have to cooperate with one another to overcome the conflict and move the country forward. Not going to happen.... wake up.
The resumption of peace means all sides must grant forgiveness - without bias or emotion - and be open-minded to allow the airing of dissenting opinions. I understand this is difficult to do, but we have to put the greater good before personal interest. Why not make it a real 'blanket amnesty' then and empty the prisons?
As of today, the amnesty bill was passed by the House and forwarded to the Senate for deliberation. This is in accordance with normal legislative proceedings.
Relevant parties have differing views on amnesty, spawning wide differences among sectors of society, institutions, and between and within political parties.Wide differences within PTP?.... 310-0 and 4 abstentions.
Despite the House passage of the bill, several groups appear not ready to embrace forgiveness and are mired in differences.several? ..... Try several hundred groups.
I don't want to see the politicisation of the bill with the aim of unseating the elected government and derailing democratic rule once again.YOU started all this. It;s a political amnesty.... how the hell could it not be politicised??
The bill has been distorted to cause misunderstanding as a fiscal issue. I, as the prime minister, would have to endorse a fiscal-related bill, but I have never lent my signature to endorsing amnesty.
Yup.... But luckily everyone saw straight through your attempt to distort it, a bit like an elephant hiding behind a blade of grass.
More importantly, the bill is being portrayed as a whitewash of corruption, but this is beside the point. Amnesty is designed to absolve victims of the power seizure, which happened outside the rule of law, and those accused of committing offences related to life, physical injury and property. If it looks like shit, and it smells like shit.......
I reaffirm that the government will strive to serve the national interests and that it will not use its majority contrary to the people's feelings.Self-interests you mean.
I will heed the views of proponents and opponents. The government's main goal is to bring about reconciliation. The governments main goal is to bring about a whitewash for Thaksin everything else is willing collateral loss.
In the face of prevailing differences, the government would like all sides to pause in order to stop causing further divisiveness.
Because you can see that this bill is spiraling the wrong direction to what you thought it would do.
Under the Constitution, the bill is now under the purview of the Senate.
I want to plead for the senators, those appointed and those elected, to use their discretion while deliberating the bill. It is well known that the Senate is beyond interference. But you will already be trying to interfere and corrupt the senate.
So I hope the senators will deliberate on the bill on the basis of forgiveness and compassion so as to dispense justice equally for those with grievances and pain. The senate is there to uphold the constitution at all cost, not sympathise.
The deliberation on amnesty should factor into the country's interest. Regardless of the outcome of the Senate's decision, be it to disagree with, to withhold or to revise the bill, I believe the Members of Parliament, who cast the vote for the bill's passage, will accept the result for the sake of reconciliation. No other choice really is there?
The legislative procedures should prevail to completion and everyone should uphold this in order to safeguard the freedom of every Thai citizen.
In conclusion, I would like to thank everyone in the legislature for striving to achieve reconciliation. It is now time for all Thai citizens to unite and decide on the way to bring about understanding without bias and emotion. Open-heartedness and compassion should be the basis to achieve reconciliation.
So lets have justice done, and jail; all those responsible for political crimes. You can start by applying for the extradition of your brother if you want to show the people that you are sincere about what is best for the Thais.
Thank you.- 7

Such killings go unpunished in a murky and often highly localised conflict, making it impossible to verify who pulled the trigger.
They have been able to match bullets with guns in England since 1835, and has been used in court to get a conviction as early as 1902
It's called ballistic fingerprinting.
One day Thailand will catch up to the rest of the world, unless of course it in 'inconvenient' for them to use this technology.

"Under Miracle Eyes, police patrols are expected to arrive at any scene where crimes or break-ins take place within five to 10 minutes."
I have a feeling this is going to spark a lot of joke from this forum.

They don't do U-turns so much as they just turn their back on something and never mention it again and hope it goes away. Then come out with something equally bizarre to take the spotlight.
Or they deny having anything to do with it... Look at the poster campaign forcing provinces to put up pro amnesty bill notices. It gets pulled and Yingers denies having anything to do with it... So please name the culprit then. It's your party that you are supposed to be head of.... don't you know who it was???
Thought not.

This is by far the best story to have been posted in the news section for the past year.
Come on people of Thailand, protest until your last breath and keep the heat turned up. Because if this bill fails, then Thaksin has nothing left.

If Thaksin can't be tried in Thailand because he has absconded, and used corrupt means to have his corruption charges and sentence quashed, then there would be no other option than to have him tried in the international criminal court.
Welcome to The Hague Mr T.

But its all OK, because Yingluck produced the families of the murdered protestors which all agree with the bill.
It wasn't paid for....... honest it wasn't.

Hmmm....
So they suspend the 4 hosts that are vocally opposed to the amnesty bill, then they deny censorship.
Phone call from Oslo threatening to pull funding by any chance??

Can this government get any more suicidal?
Urging the opposition to petition the International criminal court might just backfire on them.
This gets crazier by the day.

This creepy person is living the high life with the money of hard working Thai tax payers .
Hard working Thai taxpayers??? You won't be slagging the bloke off when he gets back though will you.
Won't stop me from slagging him off, I doubt it will stop any farang from speaking their mind about him.
We still slag off the PTP and Yingers all the time, so are you saying that Thaks will have us all rounded up and shot?
Did you also kiss Hitlers arse?

omg....doesn't matter if you're criminal but rich. He got 4 young blond all around him.. I'm feeling jelly lol
Those girls must be between the ages of 12 to 15.
So we all know what YOU are doing in Thailand.

What about the other 71 families? Where are their representatives?
Basically they have hand picked a bunch of distant cousins and uncles etc, and paid them off with a couple of million each to act out this scene of reconciliation acceptance.
The first thing my wife said...... Money!

What a load of <deleted>.
They were obviously paid off as usual just so they could demonstrate a public forgiveness.
Crap, tripe, rubbish, bullshit, and going beyond tolerance.
If they think that the people won't see straight through this, they are very much mistaken.
'We need to forgive before we can move forward'..... hogwash.... Force this bill through and you will be moving backwards. Prior to when democracy was installed as your system of governance.

Of the 149 senators, less than 70 have expressed opposition to the amnesty bill. The majority in the Senate would vote to pass the bill unless there was strong opposition and chaos outside the Parliament due to ongoing protests led by the opposition Democrat Party.
There ya go.... You know what to do good people of Thailand... Chaos!
But the amnesty bill, even if successful in the lower and upper houses, may not be passed into law since the Con-stitutional Court may be requested to rule whether its text and processes were constitutional.
Well it is unconstitutional, a blind soi dog can tell that.

I hope they got everyone out of the water ok. I also hope when they said they will resume the search at full light, it doesn't mean that it got too dark to continue. Judging by the video, there were lots in the water still and the sun looked about 15 minutes from setting, and there is no moon at the moment. So would be pitch black out there after sundown.
Unless of course they meant search for bodies in the wreck. But then again, divers can use torches.
