One such self-professed astrological expert is Mr. Boonlert Pairin, who also happens to serve as an MP of the Democrat Party. All you need to know about them really.
Abhisit and his amulet collection too.

Prayuth is nothing more than a little fascist bully.
the Army has only one side: the country. We defend the nation, the religion, and the monarchy".A dangerous statement of intent.
The sooner the Thai military is reduced to the role of self-important little thugs for hire that they so clearly are the better.
They know their demise is imminent once their handlers lose their grip on power once and for all.
Only a matter of time now.

Just hand out more yaba tablets to keep drivers awake like they did in the 70's. 80's and 90's.

A nice little backhander for some corrupt little pigs at the trough.
Nothing more, nothing less.

These road accident deaths will continue until the Thai government enacts laws to prevent it, which is very unlikely.
The laws exist, for whatever reason they are very rarely enforced.

And laws that are not enforced are just suggestions to this bunch as the police are the worst. And the politician are......................................!
... representing the electorate very well I would say.

I am not sure if these incidents are common but it does appear to me that a disproportionate number of fatalities involving pick-up truck accidents involve migrant workers. However, the ultimate culprit is yaba and alcohol. Such a tragic incident.
The ultimate culprit is stupidity and arrogance.

Made the generals a lot of money though.
More money made by a prominent political family in Thailand and later abroad from land purchase and subsequent sell off of the land along with the ''big bag lady'' collecting the commission payments for the family. 30% was the going rate.
No doubt. Fkn scumbags.

More runways means more buses to take people to and from the planes.
Terrible airport, ill-conceived and poorly executed.
Made the generals a lot of money though.

Well done Mr. Hall.
It takes integrity and bravery to speak out and expose this kind of persecution against migrant workers in the face of the usual lying, duplicitous and abusive nature of many of the employers here.
Thais are bullies, and I was always told to stand up to bullies. The justice system (as well as other facets of the culture and system) works on extortion and bullying, in lieu of proper investigative methods, honesty and transparency.
The factory will now bully with defamation lawsuits, using their connections in the Police to coerce Mr. Hall to bend to their will. If unsuccessful, threats and possibly even violence will be the next resort.
Westerners that stick their nose in and expose blatant Thai criminality are often killed; Michael Wansley springs instantly to mind.
It's the way it works here. No surprise there are expats that find it hard to think properly have no problem with this behaviour.
Personally, I find it disgusting and I admire Mr. Hall for his efforts.

He was not charged with running an illegal taxi business because there wasn't enough evidence yet the article states he is a black taxi driver. Any person that knows Thai defamation laws would have that headline changed immediately for fear of a lawsuit.

That is absolute garbage. Take the UK for example, I would bet there are far more stabbings there than in Thailand, and the Thai population is a little bit more than the UK.Thais showing us once again how dangerous a country this is, They constantly send us reminders that ANY confrontational situation, regardless of how minor it may seem, can be potentially lethal because these people have no emotional self-control. These types of violent overreactions are become more and more commonplace.
I'll take that bet.
The murder rate for Britons in Thailand is several times higher than in Britain and Thailand is the most dangerous tourism destination for Britons, Aussies and Swedes.

The venomous hatred spouted against Yingluck on every thread where she gets a mere mention only expose the bitterness and insecurities that taint the expat community, especially towards Thai females.
I am of the opinion that if she is so deeply unpopular with the expat community then she, much like Thaksin before her, must be doing something right.
Another poster called her "out of touch", another more appropriate phrase to describe the political savvy of the vast majority of expatriates you could not find.

Thai fascist dictator and Axis ally Phibunsongkram was responsible for misappropriating his personal favourite Vietnamese dish and calling it Pad Thai, as a nationalist rallying cry in the 40's.
Following by revered example, the military could change the krapao recipe slightly and call it something different to celebrate one of their recent achievements; using cluster bombs in Cambodia, being duped into wasting millions on fake bomb scanners, or even something to commemorate their most recent coup and subsequent junta.
Seriously though, eating Krapao regularly is the fastest way to heart attack. It's enjoyable now and again but can't be good for you.

The Thai version of Buddhism is only Buddhism in name. It is a hodge-podge mix of Buddhist, Hindu, Taoist, Brahmanism and several other religions and superstitions.
I recommend reading 'The Gods Drink Whiskey' or 'Buddha for Beginners' by Stephen T. Asma.

Sondhi is out on bail for other charges besides this one. Anyone kept count on just how many years in total he has been sentenced to and the number of cases he is out on bail awaiting appeal for? Must be four at least.
I was wondering the same thing.
This guy has been through a lot. Remember the mob of assassins who shot up his car with machine guns? He took a bullet glaze across his scull? I seem to recall the bullets were the same ones used in military arms. Given the amount of ordinance that goes missing and his political leanings, it would appear they were not the military. or at least not regular military. or at least serving military.
You need to do your homework. It is an open secret which military elements were involved and who they were linked to.Don't be under the misapprehension that all those who share an enemy are friends.
Amazing insight Jayboy. Just astonishing.
In the future, you may wish to not mistake guarded comments and withholding details... or understatement... for ignorance. I thought it was obvious. Obviously, not to you, despite your brilliance and insight. and . homework. wow.
Jayboy is correct. However, as I'm sure he is aware, the facts cannot be discussed here, and it is quite dangerous to discuss them anywhere openly in Thailand, which most likely explains the guarded nature of his comment.

All I know is the TAT will hit there number of a 21% rise in tourism as they do every year.
The funny thing is that in the last several years, tourist have increased by X (I don't remember the correct figures) yet revenue has increased by a quarter or less of X. So either they are catering to the grubbiest, most money pinching tourists on Earth or the number of visitors figure is, shall we say, a little optimistic.
A combination of both.
Russian and Chinese are now the biggest visitors, with over a million Cambodian and Laos 'tourists' factored in.

Good post.
Every day I spend in Bangkok I see idiocy. Yesterday while walking to the gym I was nearly hit by a taxi who nearly ran over my toes. He stopped nearby so I gave him a piece of my mind. Futile I know, but it made me feel better. Later that day I saw a taxi almost go through a red light nearly hitting a 6/7 year old kid while crossing the road.
You nailed it with the ignorance and arrogant self-entitlement, it's what I have been saying for years. Many of these people are just not ready for the responsibility of driving. The problem here is, unlike the West, they are not weeded out.
People who make excuses for this type of behaviour are just as bad as the ignorant perpetrators IMO.
Odd post.
What you seem to be saying in your first paragraph is that you were walking to the gym and you weren't hit by a taxi that (obviously) didn't cause you any injury at all. So you berated the driver.
Later you saw a taxi that didn't go through a red light and didn't hit a child crossing the road.
Very strange.
Not strange at all. The point is I was witness to two and almost a victim of one near-misses within the space of a normal afternoon because of idiotic arrogance by Thai drivers. Both of them in this instance taxis.
4/10 for your bait attempt. Must try harder.

People still making the mistake of thinking this government could lose power because of its policy failures.
There's much more at stake and the Thais realise this. Throughout history Thai governments have not been chosen on policy. It's more to do with alignment, and allegiances. Ironically it is Thaksin's legacy of campaigning on a populist platform in 2001 that has given him such an unassailable position.
If anything, and despite of their failures of any government policy, the long term popularity of the PTP will probably strengthen.

And let's not even go too deep into the way these lunatics get licensed to
killdrive. It is a mockery of the developed mind. Just like any test or exam in Thailand, it is all about the score and not the content and meaning of the content; ...just getting that goddamned "PASS" so they can experience the joy of driving without any skills, knowledge or experience and put everyone's lives at risk.Good post.

The airport is run by three criminal gangs, or 'mafia' as the Thais like to call them. With many more hovering around.
That's the first problem right there. AOT have no real power, nor have the other authorities.
http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/295764-crackdown-fails-to-stop-suvarnabhumi-airport-gangs/
The place was entrenched in corruption and criminality from the very beginning, way back in the 60's when the military generals concocted the scheme to make even more money for their grubby little enterprises. Fascist dictator Thanom Kittikachorn was heavily involved I believe (he being responsible for the 1976 Thammasat University massacre and a right-wing idol of Democrat Party fossils like Chuan Leekpai).
If you believe in Karma Suvarnabhumi is only getting what it justly deserves. Wholesale corruption, construction and design flaws notwithstanding, how can we forget the fire truck scandal, the x-ray scanner scandal, the cracked runway scandals, the alleged dead bodies buried in the concrete structure, the PAD yellow shirts takeover, the armed gang that blockaded the car parks for a week during a dispute, King Power's corrupt practices, extortion of tourists by Police... the list goes on and on and on.
Number one? Really?
