  1. some things i like about thai ness..

1.Sharing food and drinks at the table with everyone (it makes sense and it's more social.

    2. Thais seem to be able to join in on street markets and start up little ideas, like it's a right to make a living. (ti is a dream of many westerners to be able to open a bar or food booth, it costs tens of thousands and you have people trying to stop you.)

    3. Guesthouses everywhere (compared with western countries where you have no choices so it's hard to travel)

    4. walking slower on the street - why everyone in such a hurry when walking in the west

    5. being a little more respectful to strangers or weirdos - westerns can barely handle the ladyboys they see

    6. having to share to be respected. - it's ok to be greedy and selfish in the west

    7. Not yelling as much in public or getting all emotional. - stick of emotional drunken cry babies in the west

    8. People smiling even if they don't like you or whatnot, better than people that look past or even give dirty looks to strangers

I have noticed those things. I think them.

  2. You need a Thai registered company to apply for it at the Labor Ministry work permit office in the province where you will be doing the workshop by filing a WP10 form.

    WP10 download: http://wp.doe.go.th/wp/images/form/Form_tt10.pdf

Thank you very much ! Do you know if it has to be two weeks, is it possible to get a 3 month or even a year visa to do this, this is not something that competes with any thais, it's a specialized course for a very specific skill about how to make something.

    Thanks !

  3. Hi, I am wondering if i could get the two week permit to be able to come to thailand to teach a rare artist skill at 2 week workshops. Is this permit something i should be looking into, the same one a travelling musician might get. I have a thai farm guest-house type thing willing to sign some papers if that helps, the same property i might do the workshops at if this works out.

Any ideas where to start. I just basically want to come to thailand and run an 8 day workshop once a year.

    Thanks

  4. The statements of the OP and of some of those who have replies make it easy to understand why so many Thais consider foreigners to be rude, arrogant and unwanted.

I agree with them and wish their attitude did not reflect on the rest of us.

And to Tham1, Yes, if a monkey waied me, I would return his wai with a big smile and a chuckle.

It is kind of sad that a monkey can be more courteous than a fellow foreigner!

Never stop reminding yourself that you are a better person, maybe someone will believe it!

truth man ! I am surprised any thai likes and farang I figure they must be more than open minded and tolerant to even give us a chance.. There is so many of the biggest low lifes of western countries strutting around thailand with no self respect, loud, arrogant and all that, people making fun or and disrespecting the local culture, man even as a farang i wish could kick them out of thailand back to their miserable privlieged lives of gluttony and ignorance in what ever backwards shit hole they came from, including New York or Sidney ..

  5. i lived around hundreds of the most smug selfish self-centred judgmental hippies in Nelson BC for a while, a majority they won't give you the time of day if your not a hippie too.. on thing i learned is you just have to keep not judging people yourself or else you stop meeting the good ones that aren't like that...

that being said, sometimes a smile can look creepy.. like a grin or like you find something funny about them, i think it's better to say hello to people that you aren't sure of how insecure they might be, especially women, at least it's clear.

  6. I would like to start a little survival skills workshop course thing in Thailand, mostly for tourists, maybe have a little rental property with small shop, and make by hand some woodworking items, maybe hire a couple of people if it's possible.. it's a pretty modest "company" teaching some skills and building a few items that would get shipped back home.

How is this kind of thing possible, would you have to go threw all that crazy list of things to start a real company (51 thai owned, 4 workers, 1 mill baht ?) and apply for work permit ?

What if i had a thai partner that hired me on to instruct and the workers for the woodworking items are instead independent woodworking studios doing custom work for me ?

On another note, I would love to move to thailand and do this, but i might have to choose a different country (mexico, panama ??) and start the learning process.

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks

  7. Compared to where i live in Canada, the west coast of the USA is a bargain all around, even Seattle.. BC Canada has now made a min price of pretty much $5.50 a pint and a pub CAN"T go lower, so all beer is same price.. it's corrupt in a different way here, like they just raise the price.

I have been thinking of a summertime coffee stand here for festivals.. what a joke, you have to be wealthy to try to open a little food try to try to scrape by.

Almost thinking of moving to Thailand, but no connections there and it is also full of problems.

I like to think with all my disadvantages as a white male in the world, I will benefit in the struggle, but who knows..

  8. I guess for me I have always found i save 50% of my costs of some thigns by having a girlfriend but i guess i have only been with western women with their own jobs and money... at the moment my girlfriend makes alot of money and is generous so i don't even pay 50% of the rent and she fills the food up in the fridge.. one of the benifits of feminism is the women have money and don't want you to pay for them ever.. i dont think i could ever shack up with a women that might be in it for the money

  9. why are most of the 'farangs' here bent on trying to make me feel the problem is actually with the Thais when we all know

the west initiated slavery and slave trade

thats not true, africa and the middle east invented Slavery.. there is still so much slavery in Africa and the middle east, the only places and the 1st places that have had slavery are in africa today and Africans sold other Africans to slavery.

  10. to the Original poster.. sadly if your a black male in Thailand lots of people think you are a Nigerian Drug Dealer, it's not your fault andi it's not fair for everyone to judge a black male thsi way but there is so many to be found.... you have to accept that. i have to accept as a shaven head, tatooed skinny white male that someone out there is going to mistake me for an idiot, the list goes for everyone in someway, nobody is free from hype,.. if they are meeting you, it may be that you have the kind of common male American macho agressive stance towards people that can make other Americans or westerners in general cringe... all is i am saying is i don't think many expats are racist, perhaps you will find the western white male that gets out of the homeland as perhaps the less racist people of the history of the world.. i know how shameful it would be for any of my friends or me to say anything racist at all.. just saying.. keep your head up and open your mind that it isn't racism it is something about the way you conduct yourself and something you can change too.

  11. Noisy, shouting, queue jumping tourists can come from any country - but huge groups of noisy, shouting queue jumping tourists will be from China.

Sent from my C6902 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

So it is to be assumed somehow all chinese tourists will behave like that? You see how racist that sounds if we changed it to russian. Now it does sound offensive right?

more people complain about the russinas, so your 1st comment to me is meaningless.. everyone everywhere complaing about the russians, in the temples, on the beaches in the guesthouses... what are you talking about man? it's similar to my story about, some beat down person from China who was brainwashed to think the world hates china, when infact, we haven't although who wouldn't be scared of they enviromental ruin and the goverment and the knock off of western ideas and the such... but overall, much more people complain about the russians

  12. umm... I introduced myself to some hippy girl and asked where she was from... she said "china" I said oh really ? i meant oh wow never meet a hippy from china/cool i have a few questions that a hippy from china might know.... she got angry and said, Sorry and walked away...

i didn't know what to make of it but took it as an agressive way of dealing with something deep inside of her and insecurity about the envorment in China.. I found this rude vulgar and not at all good to project what someone else means without giving them a chance to explain..

i regreat not saying.. sorry for what ? or what are you talking about ?

  13. Splalpeen

Yes I mean I'm of Indian decent.

I really don't care what the low or high paid restaurant workers think. Not that their socio-economic standing bears any relevance to this topic. What I do care is when it negatively impacts me. I care less if someone is a closet racist. Racism is everywhere in the world. Will I condone it and accept it, no. I'm not trying to change anyone's thinking but when dealing with me I expect to be treated with the same respect I show others. I am not disputing there is racism all over Asia. I guess my feelings is I've never experienced it as much in my face as here. I have actually also experienced racism in India. Not to generalize but many Indians feel subservient to Caucasian people. Perhaps something to do with colonization?

I am a white dude and i will say on my last trip to Thailand I had so many examples of what seemed like racisim, at least classism.

I won't get into them to far but yes Thailand is racisit and i think with all the turmoil they are kind of viewing people from other countries in general in the way and not bothering to be as polite.

It sounds like your experince is worse than mine, but just saying keep your head up it's out there, it will effect you but overall it won't define you !

  14. Its a ahaming tactic to coerce baht out ot you. Only encountered it in heavy foreign tourist areas. Most of the morons who call others cheap, havent got 2baht to rub together and certainly arnt tippers themselves. Low class trash basically

I do agree with this... sometimes you have to explain to somone that if you were stupid with your money you wouldn't be so "ricH' as to be able to fly away in the 1st place as you would have gave all your money to the fat lady that serves you half full pints at the local pub at home.

  15. Thais use it amongst each other mainly, it's the equivalent of "tight arse".

They use it more often than Westerners would though, as the concept of saving money doesn't exist in Thailand and a lot of Thais just don't get why one would have money but choose not to spend it.

i don't think so, but i think it is frowned on much to be selfish in general and to get upset about not winning in every transaction, i like it to be honest i can't stand anymore being around cheap cry baby spoiled me me me brats anymore ... get a grip people

  16. Stupid insight. A Mercedes or any expensive car is a lifestyle statement of success not a vehicle to move from point A to point B. The traffic and scooter analogy is totally incorrect .

    Impossible is a human invention

it's not true man, trust me i have a 30 year old Mercedes because they are completely awesome, long lasting, well built safe cars... they are well selling good cars period, if your out and about you migh love to know the best engneriing is inside ofyour suspension and the like.. on the other hand ever have a friend that bought and broke down in a kia or ford taurus, or crashed in a honda civic ?

you buy good things because they last longer and do their job better, they cost more and some people are deulusional enough to wonder why people just dont go for the cheap option.

i will ask you why you don't drink the tap water and chooose a cheaper place to fly to like mexico

  17. I wonder why the persons with nice cars don't put their small kids in car seats ( or even seat belts) in BKK

Because rich or poor they all are stupid brainless ? But the rich have less excuse, they have time and possibility to understand that they are stupid !

most rich people work really hard everyday man... get a grip, where do you think they get money from ? lol.. on the other hand, it's the people who can't afford a good life that really seem to pick at the ones that do well and the 1st chance they get to make some money there they are, worse than anyone in the world about it all.. seen it a million time, just like hippies all sold out, so would you..
