  1. this topic just weird, some guy is wating for the stinky, crowed public transit by Big C and sees someone in a fine car in a trafic jam and has a delusion that his life is better, and that had he been a rich thai he would drive a cheap car and walk around ?

you gotta be kiding me man, the difference between a fine german car a cheap asian one is astounding, everything from saftey, seats, motor.. the way the trunk closes.. if you can afford someone well made, go for it, thats the point of making money..

i am sure the guy was looking at the window, maybe the worst part of his day was being stuck in traffic looking at all the poor farang slobs out there trying to swish their way on public transit ?

    just saying..

  2. need a full feathered smartphone, with sd card slot, removable battery, android, has all radios - gps, world bands, usb otg, ... the works.. was thinking samsung galaxy s3 but they are cheaper back in canada, saw this "go live" smarphone at 711 and it looks good from outside but are they locked and what bands do they hae, anyone have any tips here for a good cheap brand.. lost my computer/phone and all that recently so kind of need something asap.. and cheap./

  3. agg... i had to give up... going to bangkok tonight to the temp Canadian embassy, hope the unrest is fine, sucks, sucks sucks... i doubt my stuff at embassy. wish i knew the local paper on koh lanta as i could put an ad, as my crooked guesthouse owner did put an ad in the paper "for me" but wounldn't take my contact details... in other words he is hoping they bring it to the gueshouse so he can have it.

  4. thanks guys.. seems like it isn't the end of the world... having all hell trouble trying to call the tourist police in lanta, talk to the reuglar ones that did the report but they don't seem to want to see me anymore, i think there is supposed to be tourist police but hardly anyone wants to let me use the phone, my guest house "lanta family" won't let me use the phone either and made a photocopy and then wanted 20baht after, i am sorry after 700 bhat for a little bamboo hut in really bad shape, about double the others in the area, you think the might let me use the phone ! hope you wont stay at that place.

  5. is that part of BKK going to be a problem to get there, and find a cheap guesthouse for the few days i will be there.

I think iwill try to board an air asia from Krabi to BKK and show them my police report, photocopy and just explain to them.. but it's hard to imagine non photo id and you get on.. that or buy the ticket at the airport and ask them there...

I heard they might not charge the overstay considering the situration in BKK .. i just counted and noticed that $15 a day isn't the end of the world i guess, but stressful none the less... also lost my laptop, phone, and other things.

  6. So i got my passport (as well as laptop, phone $300 cash...) ripped off by a taxi when getting out..

I have 6 days left on my thai visa. I am on a island in krabi province

Canadian embassy has moved to Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit located at 2 Sukhumvit Soi 57 (BTS Thong Lor, sortie 3) in Bangkok.

I am not sure what i should do here, i was about to do a visa run and go home in just under 1 month, can't visa run...

If they let me fly from KRabi to BKK with only the plolice report about the missing passport and a photocopy of passport, no other picture ID at this time... otherwise huge bus ride.

It seems the is a consulate in Chiang mai but it would take them a week or more to get me a temp visa she insisted i go to BKK, but i needed to go to chiang mai anyways...

anyone have any tips, as i travel alone and don't have any other support other than two bank cards at the moment..

  7. The only people who'd be afraid are Thailand novices and Drama Queens.

you don't gotta be afraid to want to get out of a civial war or total abandonment of law and the collapse of the food network and stuff dude, alot of people are little hotel rooms, taking money out at ATMS and don't really feel like being in the middle of this.. maybe your brave but I would take my risks on a little dingy in a storm in the ocean, maybe you wouldn't feel comforatable in that.

  8. 1st time down south, and ya it's lovely in all but can't help but notice down in Champoun and now in Krabi town their is some big speakers set up downtown kind of speaches and stuff..

now i am typically not a fraidycat but you know, as a tourist i i didn't spend all this money to come see a big gong show if you know what i mean.. you just want to relax it's pain in the ass enough getting here and stuff.

also it might be me but is it kind of tense down here in Krabi, I am not sure if I should head up north as planned as i will be going right threw this whatever you wanna call it, was reading an article about the local Krabi protestors maybe shutting down the little airport out of here and was thinking..

whats the deal is these little towns kind of immune to this or are they going to hold us tourists hostage or something stupid

makes me think about taking a flight right the hell out of here for Malaisya or Indonesia in the morning to be honest, not sure whats down there must be something worth visiting, I am sure thais have something to work out, and it might be me, it might be krabi ( i didn't even realize it was so muslim)

what you guys think and where are you?

  9. thanks northerndon, never heard of this place, sounds pretty nice to be only 2hrs from BKK too.. not 100% sure that from what a read i could handle the whole boring during the week thing, but who knows, it might be very relaxing and i think i would like the thai holiday makers.. will have to stop by this place one day.

  10. Hi all, I have been to Thailand 5 times, very much love it and would love to live in Chiang Mai but the last time i was there in Feb last year the smokey season was so bad for me i really didn't enjoy it much.

I would like to try to stay in the country for a year or so and everything is perfect in chiang mai for me but that damn smoke really effects me as i have a sensitive lungs from drywalling without masks and sanding wood, so no i am extra careful...

I found Bangkok air better durning this time, i am not sure if it is but i somehow felt better than, but it's also got bad air.

Is there anyone in the LOS that would compare with Chiang mai as far as the fun it offers and the low prices, high convience but happens to have an ocean breeze ...

seems like the smokey season is more like 4 months or so is this true ?

    THanks

  11. I don't mind if people are thrifty and cheap as long as it is reasonable and they kind of have a good reason.

I don't like wealthy people that wine and complain all the time about prices, and lie threw there teeth all the time about how poor they are.. I like to smack them or spit in their drink when they go to the bathroom, so does the cooks..

I also don't like people that talk about money everytime you mention something..

I also don't like people that you end up hanging with and there quest for the best price at all time leads you pass by something like a taxi, or have bad vibes with a waiter or whatnot as they try to barter people down.

I don't like people that barter down for nice handmade things past what the should be around...

Basicly I can't stand cheap people in general .. the worst type is someone that makes it seem like when there is a financial interest they are paying they get to be a self centered asshople.

  12. ya i am Canadian could go to Cuba.. problem is i am supposed to be buying a ticket and leaving in 1 day but as always i can't decide....

back to SE asia.. or Central America or Mexico.. cuba never thought of that .. south america the tickets aren't cheap.

Right now i can get to Thailand from Vancouver leaving in a day for under a $1000, very good for last min from here.. maybe something to do with the whole red shirts yellow shirts thing that i assum might not effect me unless the go take over the airport or something again lol

  13. Ya, so i am finally ready to get out of this soggy soup and I am thinking of heading to Nicaragua.. can't decide, I have been to thailand so many times now and i love it so much but you know it seems like maybe i should branch out and if i decide to go back to thailand maybe i will try to make a move over there someday, but maybe check out some Central American areas.. seems like everyone suggest you try somewhere new.. although i am a bit of a lazy traveller and it's pretty relaxed when you go somewhere you know and can count on for being worth the trip..

but this whole politcal thing you know it might be a good time to try somewhere else..

anyways who has been to Nicaragua and do you have any tips?

  14. If one say lived a in funky little guesthouse somewhere hidden, worked out by going hiking and or biking, entertainment was say hanging out with new friends and making your own parties, rented a motorbike now and then, split with people on transport to great locations, maybe got hooked up with some sort of work trade (like you want to sit around all day) .. and shopped very smartly... You could live for maybe 2-3 years max, more likely just over a year as you will chicken out and go to mc donalds, want to go spend a fortune on coffee/beer at fancy places..

You can live very very well anywhere on small amounts of money, shopping second hand, and being thrifty.. but you do need a small income stream to strech that out, like if you could make an extra $200 a month online or something you might be good.. it would help to be very fun to be around so maybe people will want to hook you up with cheap digs ..

if you go it alone with the typical cheap charles every man for himself and i hate everyone outlook.. the world becomes expensive, better start being usefull to people in teh world.

  15. Things your buy with money are better in USA/Canada for average Canadian vs the Average Thai.

The huge underclass in Canada/USA is much worse off in all respects than the underclass in Thailand (there is almost no unemployment in Thailand, even the poor get the nice fuzzy feeling and health / social / mental benifits from working.. in the west they are more likely on welfare, smoking crack, depressed, and hopeless.

The average young thai has a much better chance at being happy than in the west

The quality of life as far as fun goes and enjoyment is far better for the average thai

In the west, safety is far higher than in Thailand.

YOU CAN"T COMPARE - they are just to different.

One thing is there is way way way more lonely depressed agro angry violent and generally unpleasant people in the West, no matter what class they are from Suicide rates don't lye, and nether does walking around seeing everyone cower in suburban shopping malls and the like...

For sure, at least where i live the most important thing for, access to the outdoors, wilderness, fresh crabs / air and all that is very good in Canada.

I could be happy in Canada / I could be happy in Thailand.. I could get a my drivers licence gone in Canada for having 2 beers and driving, i could get thrown in Jail in Thailand if a person dared smoke a dobbie..

I think people are happier in thailand.. I know i am happy in Thaiand.. but come summer in Canada i would rather be there... but I don't get to go for a noodle soup at 12 am and go buy some nice pants at a happy and fun market.. i am forced to walmart..
