  1. Yesterday afternoon I received an email from [email protected] advising the following:

"Your request for waiving verification by face recognition has been approved."

Unfortunately I have already paid my large commitments for this month (via transactions in person at the bank) so will have to wait until next month before I try a >50K transaction via the app to see if it works.

  2. Arial.ttf is the standard Kodi installation and does not support Thai fonts.

The one you need is AD-TT Garuda Regular.

Download this to a USB stick/drive.

    AD-TT-Garuda-Regular.ttf

First you need a app like ES File Explorer to go to directories, copy etc. on your Android box, and you need to enable it to see hidden files.

The path is something like this: android\xbmc\files\.kodi\media\

On Windows the path looks like this:

    image.png.ea542c7e84105380e0cc84d22d0133e7.png

Create a folder named Fonts in the Kodi\Media folder (if it doesn't exist already), then copy and paste the attached file from the USB stick/drive into it.

Next start Kodi and in System>Video>Subtitles select AD-TT Garuda regular.ttf and your Thai subtitled media files should work fine.

Just remember that the subtitle .srt file must be exactly the same name as the media file (.mp4 or .mkv etc) and must reside in the same directory for them to work properly.

    Update to above :

I received an SMS today informing me everything was ok now and I didn't need the facial recognition.

So I go to my SCB app and try and guess what , exactly the same , I can't do it , same message comes up saying , the bank does not have my facial recognition and I need to go to the bank with my ID.

I was informed by the bank that I will have to update the app after receiving the SMS (and presumably before using the "old" app).

    Did you do that?

If so, I suggest that you call the SCB Call Centre.

  4. I went into my local branch of the SCB yesterday afternoon, and was told that the was no facial recognition required for foreigners yet and that I needed to "request an exemption" for money transfers in excess of 49,999 baht via the SCB Easy app.

The only other way I could make transfers of 50K or more would be in person at the bank using the traditional passbook and paper form system, supported of course by your ID (passport).

So the bank representative called up the SCB Call Centre and gave them my account number and told them I wanted "an exemption".

I had to punch in my ATM PIN number into the machine at the window and it was all over.

I was informed that I would get a call from the Call Centre within 24 hours and that I had to verify my ID with my PIN and a couple of personal questions and my SCB Easy App transfer limit would be lifted.

This afternoon I received a call from the Bangkok SCB Call Centre (I knew it was them because I have their phone number registered as a Contact in my phone) and after a short discussion with a human I was diverted to an automated system that requested my PIN before returning the call to a human again.

He asked me to say "I acknowledge" after he had read out the T's&C's of using the app (basically acknowledging responsibility for all my transactions using the app) and was told that within 1-2 days I would receive as SMS from the bank advising me to update the app and that all my transactions would no longer be limited to under 50K baht.

A fairly painless procedure (yes that is a comparative term I know...) but necessary.

I will update my experience for readers after the SMS is received.

  5. I just tried a 200K transfer using the SCB app (which I have done many times in the past) and was presented with an "Unable to Proceed" message advising me me to contact the bank and bring my ID so they can take a photo of my face. No mention of Thai Nationals or Foreigners in the message.

I will be headed into town later today and visit SCB to try to get this sorted.

  6. Discussion about digital music formats is OK, however discussion of piracy is not.

I have edited the OP to remove references to piracy of intellectual property, which is illegal in Thailand.

I have looked for but not found a private messaging function in this forum. If there is such a function and you know how to use it, please contact me directly using it. I welcome any other ideas you have for how we might proceed.

A bit late on the scene here but if you hover your mouse over a member's username it will display a link to that user's profile, and from there you can select "Message" to send a private and personal message to that user.

    For example:

Sisu is pretty amazing, filmed in northern Finland...the Laplands . One man, actor Jorma Tommila is like the John Wick of Finland in 1944, taking on the Nazis.  1337X

Brilliant film... plenty of action and blood and guts (and other body parts) but a bit predictable.

It is an over-the-top Nazi killing gorefest that will appeal to the John Wick audiences of the world.

My missus and I enjoyed it.
